Catalina Island Inland Motor Tour

So happy we did this! Saw ~5 bison, bald headed eagle, golden eagle and horses. Our tour guide was awesome (I don’t remember his name but he’s part native american with long hair) and had the perfect chill personality. The Flxible Bus wasn’t available so we jumped in the hummer = wooooo buddy that’s an experience! Haha roller coaster + tour in one!
We were dusty and actually tired from riding around in that hummer but it was so worth it. The majority of the tour is through areas that as a tourist — you do NOT have access to.

We took the Inland Expedition tour and absolutely loved it! Lots of animals and beautiful scenery that we would probably not have seen if not for the tour. The 1952 Flxible Bus was an interesting ride, but comfortable enough on those dirt roads. We saw bison and even the endangered Island Fox. I think the right side of the bus saw more animals, at least on our trip. Our tour guide, Stephen, was excellent. He was very knowledgeable and entertaining.

I took the Inland expedition tour of Catalina. I defintely recommend it! Our tour guide Cindy Lowe was great! She gave great insight on the island, sang a little bit and kept everyone entertained during the whole trip. Avalon is only a very small portion of the island and it was nice to see the non-​tourist side of the island. Some of the view from the cliff were spectacular! I glad I brought my camera. We even had a Buffalo (I mean Bison) stop right by the road! Do yourself a favor and leave the city and check out this tour!

Cesar was our driver and he definitely knew his stuff! The wife and I were winding down our 3 days on the island, and we had checked out of our hotel already, and had time to kill. We were able to book the interior tour within a half an hour, and it was the perfect close out to our visit. Having rented a golf cart already, and much hiking by foot, a bus tour in the great old 1954 Flxible bus seemed to be a natural.
Cesar has spent his whole life on the island and knew alot of local facts such as the history of the eucalyptus trees, the bison (not buffalo) population, zip-​lining and conservancy efforts to help the endemic and planted populations. The inclusion of the Airport in the Sky was really a treat, in addition to the airport itself which is unique, there was the restaurant, gift shop and famous Killer Cookies that some pilots fly in for exclusively! We plan to visit again and hike the interior grabbing geocaches…

This was the best tour of our lives with Dorathy as our guide; she is so spunky & fun & I enjoyed when she jokingly made me her side kick asking «Brian, what do you think, should we go to the left or right; wiat, we are comming toward a tree what should we do.» She was joking & I enjoyed it; she was a very safe driver & was such an island buffk, knowing everything about it & everybudy around it & knew all the history of it. She & the tour are unforgettable. Keep up the good work Dorathy.

We took the Inland Expedition which advertises «This comprehensive tour takes you 31 miles through the heart of Catalina’s rugged interior. You’ll travel in a comfortable, ’50’s Flxible Bus™, restored to its original streamlined beauty.‘
We took this tour for the first time in 2006, right after the big fire they had there. We took it again in August of 2014. It was interesting to see how the land came back.
This is a great tour, very informative, wonderful tour guides (like Stephen) who really seem to love the island and it’s history and lore. It’s a long tour, so bring some water if the weather is warm.
We saw lots of wildlife hanging out by the water troughs due to the drought. You get to go to the airport and see some of the beaches (from a distance) that are so remote you’ll need to boat or backpack to get there. Bring a real camera and not just your phone to capture some unique pictures.

OK, I went to Catalina on my Birthday 6−28−13. My wife talk me into going on this tour first of all The drive said to us all sitting waiting for the BUS, If your going on this tour get in. I told my wife he was going to be a JOKE. BOY WAS I WRONG. Steve turn out to be one of the BEST EVER. I MEAN THAT. He was VERY FUNNY AND A GREAT DRIVER. I would say if you go to ask for STEVE. If you don’t like him then you must of had PAUL. Steve know his history of CATALINA. Take HIS tour.

Me and my wife had a wonderful experience having this great inland motor tour. And our tour guide Charles is awesome and so cool. Surely gonna try other Catalina Expedition next time! Again, thanks so much to Mr. Charles!

Hopefully this represents the tour we took. We opted for the 3 ½ hour Inland Expedition tour rather than the shorter tours and I’m glad we did! Fred, our driver and guide, was extremely knowledgeable about the island. It seemed like he had been a local for years. He even told us where the closest newspaper stand was when the tour was over! We saw buffalo, island fox, and even bald eagles! The Airport in the Sky was amazing! I definitely recommend paying a few extra dollars for the longer tour.
