The pudgie pelican was the usual shore breakfast place, taking advantage of the elderly’s taste buds that no longer exists. The pancakes tasted bland and the cook fried my porkroll into burnt disks of misery. My girlfriend got a grouper wrap, that was definitely some other frozen fish. We are thinking they were serving pollock fish. The service was awkward as well. Th server on the open floor was speaking to us about how the tip was short on another large table. When another table behind us asked to split the bill the server rudely said«Next time you want to do that tell us at the beginning». The place was half dead and the privileged Avalon teenage girl was rolling silver wear for days like the place was busy.

Nothing incredibly special. :/Not long wait and nice people and the food was ok. Would go back again but not constantly. In all good quick breakfast.

Pudgie Pelican was the most disappointing restaurant we visited in our whirlwind tour of unsatisfactory Avalon eateries. Because they spared so little effort to provide a decent meal I will not invest my usual effort at describing the experience. If you want to know how their burger tastes just think back to the third grade cafeteria at your elementary school. You know, the one where they have a pan with a 12 or so grey circles soaking in some brownish liquid which they then sandwich in a tasteless bun, you know that taste? It’s the taste of «we don’t really care if you ever order a burger from us again, we advertise family pricing, so you shouldn’t have any expectations». My wife ordered a grilled cheese. It was not even remotely expensive. It was also not even remotely edible. Two slices of Strohmen bread, burned… ish, on the outside, while the cheese remained unapologeticly uncooked in the middle. My son had the very reasonably priced personal pizza. It was some kind of crust, Ragu pasta sauce and some cheese(he did eat it though so who am I to complain) My daughter order the 6 inch cheese steak and ate half. In the spirit of fairness, the waitress took the burger off the bill after I told her it was not acceptable. While I appreciate that, my issue is I am on vacation, I am only able to stop and dine with my family like this a couple times before its back to the daily grind. It is ridiculous to serve such obviously low quality products even if you are touting yourself as reasonable priced. Inedible is never reasonable.

I have been here a few times now. They are a very consistent, decently priced, kid friendly brunch spot at the shore. I do find there coffee to be a little weak which is why I deducted a star. The portion size of the platters are pretty large. The omelets are fluffy and the lox is fresh.

This is a world-class eatery compared to most other places down the shore. It is definitely not the best breakfast you can get, but it really blows away the competition in Avalon. The place is clean, servers are friendly(although they are the typical college/high school kid), the coffee is good. Although the prices are a tad above an average diner, you still get descent food. They do a very good job on the omelets, and the home fries(well-done!) are very good too. Not much to complain about. Probably a 3 star option anywhere else, but definitely one of the best breakfast choices down the shore.

My parents raved about this place, so I went with them for breakfast one day. It’s super cute, and the location is great! I was off to a good start! Service was great thru and thru. Our waitress couldn’t have been nicer, or more on top of things. I never saw the bottom of my coffee, and the food came out as soon as it was up. The problem occurred when I actually ate the food. I had the veggie omelette with cheddar cheese, no peppers. What I received was a miniscule amount of underdone hash browns(even though i ordered them well done), and an omelette that was cooked to hell and back. The eggs were rubbery, the veggies were watery and not very flavorful, and the chedder cheese was very underrepresented. I ate 2 – 3 bites of this and just left it. The best part of my meal was the perfectly toasted rye. I love me some breakfast, but this was a total bummer. My mom had a little breakfast sandwich and couldn’t go to the beach because her stomach was upset. Again, I’ve heard good things abou tthis place, but this was not a great experience. From what I’ve heard, I’d like to try it again and change my opinion though.

Fair prices, and my turkey sandwich was overstuffed, which I appreciated. Fries with the sandwiches would be a big improvement, even if it came with higher prices. Fresh ingredients, friendly and attentive service. I will give this restaurant return service.

I love this place. My family and I always eat here when in Avalon. Yes some of the prices are a little high but for the most part its not too bad. Had the banana and chocolate chip pancakes last time… yum!

Not Bad overall. Busy on a sunday and not much leadership among servers. There was a long wait for the table and for food. Pretty Basic, Pretty Greasy food.

This place was absolutely horrifically bad. We waited for over an hour for our food. Meanwhile, they never came by to refill coffee or water unless we tracked them down. When food came it was VERY bad – dry, tasteless and and disappointing. One woman ordered Raisin Bran and still had to wait for an hour. They actually never even delivered all our order. We had to ask three times that dirty dishes be bussed and they never actually removed them. When I told the owner had bad things had been he gave me some perfunctory remark about being shorthanded and never made any effort to make things right. Stunningly bad. I would avoid this place like the plague.

I’m giving 5 stars because for breakfast in Avalon, this is as good as it gets. Have I had better breakfast? Of course, but not in Avalon! The service is typically really good and very fast(as it should be considering breakfast food takes about 10 seconds to make). They’re very clean and friendly. They’re known for their omeletts–«Best Omeletts on the Island!» and honestly, in Avalon, that could not be more true. As far as pricing goes, it’s Island standard. The whole of Avalon is expensive for breakfast, so I can’t hold the price against them either. If you’re near 33rd and Dune I’d check them out.

S-L-O-W When we sat down and I saw that the menu said that all orders are individually prepared, I got nervous. What non-fast food place doesn’t make items to order? The food was solid, but I was hungover, and ready to get started on my Sunday Funday, there was no time for a wait. I’d go back, but I’m sure there are better breakfast options for the tired and the poor and the people who need grease asap.

It’s a diner in Avalon. Food is OK(avoid the tasteless sausage), but your breakfast options on the island are limited. However, service can be terrible. Last summer we waited 10 – 15 minutes for a table which was fine and understandable. However, the 1.5 hour wait for items such as omelets and pancakes was completely ridiculous. I tend to avoid this place if there is a line.
