Hotel Metropole

We spent our first Anniversary on Catalina Island and stayed at the Metropole. The room had a «partial ocean view» and was fantastic! Very clean, pretty wood floors, white duvet, fireplace and balcony overlooking live guitar music during the day, and a partial ocean view. We couldn’t have loved it anymore. Hoping to make it an annual anniversary stay. I normally never write a review but felt like I areally should because after leaving the island, I got a call that I had left behind my earrings, emeralds that my husband gave me for Christmas, and they asked for my address to mail them to me. I got them in the mail already, just a few days later! Wow, so nice and they even covered the postage and hassle of mailing them to me. Really appreciate that!!! Awesome customer service :)

Came here on Sunday and left Tuesday. Got in early and we were able to check in early. They had free breakfast every morning that was nice. Everyone was very friendly. I did have a problem with the bathroom in my room. The rooms were $ 400 something but I got a discount of 35%. After paying $ 200 something a night and walking in your room to see the toilet and shower that looks like it’s been there forever like I’m in public stall is not right. I’ve been in hotels that were $ 150 that didn’t even look like that …

First time staying here at this hotel. The lady at the front desk was very rude when checking me in. Her name was Ingrid. Ingrid is not nice at all. She should not be working the front desk at all. The room were very nice. No robes or slippers in the room like stated they would have for you in your room. Hotel had to change the bedding twice it was not clean. While laying in bed. Housekeeping just unlocked the door in came right in on us. Second day here at the hotel I fell. Staff was not concerned if I was ok at all. No report was made on my fall. They only gave me 4 band– aides for my knee which was bleeding. And is now bruised. The only thing that was great on this trip for relaxation was the staff at the full-​service day spa. Which was AMAZING. ROMONA was the lady who did my 90 minute massage. She was very professional and very nice. She is AWESOME. It was truly relaxing listening to music while getting a 90 minute massage. Worth every penny

But, room 211 do not stay in. Maid’s storage right next to it and since it looks down into courtyard, you hear all the loud people outside talking (other side of this building is where Von’s truck unloads so that’s really loud too.

I surprised my husband with a last minute trip to Catalina (free round trip Catalina Express boat ticket for anyone on their birthday!!!) and chose the Metropole because of its closeness to the beachfront and the great reviews. Stayed here a long time ago before they remodeled and it was very nice but now it is very chic. We stayed in VIP suite #104 which is gorgeous — huge soft bed, flat screen TV, fireplace, lots of room, stylish bathroom AND you can open the sliding bathroom doors and sit in your giant jacuzzi tub while looking out at the ocean — muy romantico.
The VIP wing is separate from the main hotel and has its own continental breakfast area with lots of choices for breakfast and just a few steps away from the suites so you never have to get out of your robe.
Staff was really helpful and patient — especially when we couldn’t figure out a rather complicated tv remote and had to call for help — twice.
Having stayed at other places on the island, the Metropole is definitely the most stylish and luxurious we’ve visited. We had a massage in the Touch of Heaven spa attached and a soak in the jacuzzi on the rooftop sundeck which has a fantastic view of the Avalon harbor and the mountains — so relaxing.
Note that anyone who takes the birthday boat deal, gets a little ribbon to wear and residents of the island really get into the spirit of it and come up and wish you a Happy Birthday — it was very sweet and fun for the birthday person.
Definitely recommend this hotel — we had a great stay and will be back.

I was impressed by the reviews and called them to inquire about booking for mid-​june. Last night when I called, a lady picked up and quoted a price for the medium suite. Today I call back to book it and a different lady by the name Heather picks up and tells me that’s not the right quote. I inquire about other rooms/​prices and the call goes on for about 5 minutes. She put me on hold and I am still on hold for over 25 minutes. Did she forget about me or is she hoping I hang up? –As I write this Heather picks up the phone! Hi Heather! Where were you? «Helping other customers check out». I am livid and ask her how she can put me on hold for 25minutes. That’s a RECORD for a hotel I’ve ever been on the phone with.

2^nd trip to the island, and what an improvement! I was extremely disappointed in the previous hotel we had stayed in (not metropole)
The metropole was exactly what I was looking for.
Great service from start to finish. The rooms looked and felt great. We had a small patio overlooking the courtyard and ocean.
They kept our luggage for us even after we checked out.

My husband and I spent our 20^th anniversary on Catalina Island. We chose the Hotel Metropole. We stayed in room 102 the corner suite in the VIP wing in the front of the hotel. We arrived on a Tuesday at noon. The desk welcomed us and told us our room was ready. The first thing I noticed was how large the sitting room was with a private balcony facing the main street. There is a great view of the harbor and the casino. It had a amazingly comfortable bed with feather pillows. The bathroom has a large Jacuzzi tub and plenty of toiletries. They provided small bottles of water, and more upon request.
The room is quiet but you can hear the noise from the street with all the french doors open. Still, by 10 pm the street is quiet.
I went running early in the morning and returned to find a plentiful continental breakfast just outside the lobby. There were pastries, cereals, oatmeal, Chaboni yogurt fresh fruit, orange juice, milk, hot chocolate, and Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf.
As I went back to my room, I saw that there was another smaller continental breakfast for the VIP wing. It had the same things minus fresh milk and yogurt.
The hotel is located on the main street and has its own shopping area and day spa.
The golf cart rental place is next doors.

I surprised my girlfriend with a weekend getaway trip to Catalina last weekend, but I centered the trip around where we would be staying to ensure it was luxurious from the moment we dropped off our baggage. Seeing as how it was a continuation of our Valentines Day, I wanted it to be romantic, and that required a good sized room with an ocean view, a fireplace, and a jacuzzi. There would have been no trip without those three accommodations — so I searched online for a hotel room with all three amenities — google brought up Hotel Metropole on Catalina Island, so Catalina became the getaway destination… it was perfect; however there was a catch because I was on a budget… I found a Travelzoo deal online that gave us two nights for the price of one in one of their Deluxe rooms. The Deluxe looked nice online, but didn’t come with all three amenities, so I simply asked the front desk and explained to them my desire and that I would not be booking a trip without a room as described above. Hotel Metropole staff was very nice and incredibly accommodating — all of their Deluxe rooms were booked for the weekend so, instead of turning my voucher down, they upgraded me to a Superior room for free. Now I had the jacuzzi tub, the fireplace, and a decent ocean view out of the window at the Travelzoo voucher price and I was feeling stoked. In addition, we had to cancel our original booking in March and reschedule for end of April because of a sudden death in her family… Hotel Metropole was very understanding and simply switched the dates for us with no additional charges or any problems.
When we arrived I was as shocked by the Superior room as my surprised girlfriend was (who had just endured the torturous joke I kept going about us «going to the desert» ha). She literally leaped up into the air at the sight of our room and we had a fantastic, happy, romantic stay :) I’m really glad I booked with them. Talking to some of the local business owners and Catalina residents — all of them said how nice Metropole is and that I picked the right place to stay, and I can confirm that I absolutely did. …So there you have it — if visiting Catalina, and especially if booking for romance, STAY AT HOTEL METROPOLE!!! :-)

Came here for Brunch. We had the bottomless mimosas. The food was excellent. They have a buffet style buffet, and the quality of the food is superb. They were over booked but the hostess accommodated us, which was very nice. The service overall was terrific. Overall, a wonderful time here; water great food, and drinks. Happy times.

I purchased a deal on Travel Zoo for this Catalina weekend get away. Well worth the price and the continental breakfast was tasty.
The only draw back with our room was the morning noise from the quad area below.
I would like to point out that I was delighted that the front desk was able to furnish me with a much needed sewing kit– Thanks!

I want to thank the front desk girl (I wish I knew her name she was great). She went out of her way to accommodated us. The best customer service ever! Room service Ozie, was so polite and I couldn’t expect more. He was fast and brought us everything we needed in a timely manner. The room the view was beautiful. I want to thank all of your staff for making this the best birthday ever

Spent Valentines weekend in Catalina. Hotel metropole was great and romantic. Went out for dinner and came back to a complimentary bottle of champagne that was an Awsome touch. Bath tub with jets. Sun deck with amazing views. Thank you Hotel Metropole for making our Valentines extra special

We visited the hotel via a groupon voucher back in early December for my fiancé’s birthday. We were willing to stay at a non 4 – 5 star hotel because of the discount.
We were also not expecting as much being on Catalina and having a lack of name brand or high end hotels.
After our stay we both agreed it was a 5 star stay and a great spot for a winter getaway. The view from our room on the top floor, #4 was an incredible panorama of the harbor as well as long distance view of the OC mainland.
Other highlights included the rooftop hot tub, in room balcony, fireplace, dvd selections, walking distance to downtown, top of the line continental breakfast included, and great customer service. Maria at the front desk was the most notable of great service.
Thank you for a great stay and locations; we’ll be back.

We just got married at Hotel Metropole’s Beach House. It might as well have been a scene from a movie.
It did not start out that way. Thanks to management the former girl we had originally booked the venue through that was a nightmare and we were able to switch to Maria who saved our wedding. Everything was perfect. We worked with Zest Catering and kept the ceremony and reception at The Beach House. After the ceremony we all took a group pic on the beach which is rare to be able to do with your entire wedding attendance. The staff flipped the house to reception mode during that time. We came back to a gorgeous dinner setting.
We spent our wedding night in a suite overlooking the ocean. The guests were all so happy with their rooms. It’s definitely worth the upgrades to stay in deluxe suites or bigger. You get what you pay for.

It was by no means recent that I stayed at this hotel but the «experience» alone was enough for olé’ Kenny Ken to provide his sentiments in a much overdue Unilocal review.
Despite there being a number of other options for lodging within the ever so quaint town of Avalon, I booked this place pretty blindly not to mention without a 3^rd party deal, and I can honestly attest to not being nearly as much of a hotel snob then… as I probably am these days YET — -
I found the place to be gorgeous, well kept, up-​to-​caliber (as far as island amenities go) and if anything… charming. My intentions were to reserve a suite at the Metropole for our newly announced engagement (too bad there was no wedding and the marriage was an absolute «no go» — we’ll save that for a separate review)…
Having stayed overnight at various other island hotel locations, in comparison… our suite here was pretty plush.

Thereon, I’m led to digress a bit. It was more so the thought that counted this go round, as opposed to the flee market wine.
As I compose this though…, I just had a flashback and remembered that the fireplace didn’t work upon our walk in. (…sighs) We actually had to request someone come up and/​or visit our suite just to ignite it. I questioned why it wasn’t done in advance knowing the weather… on an island… in October at that.
My theory is that perhaps with the prices they’re charging, most travelers and guest (s) don’t opt for such an expensive room.
Bringing me to the question:
— - — - — - Would I stay again? Well, I suppose that’s pretty up in the air. Bearing in mind the tiny size of the island itself, noise from vendors delivering goods can be heard from all angles. Looking for a decent night’s rest? You might want to reevaluate your search.
Verdict… this hotel is über pricey.
Perhaps even… OVERPRICED. Before commencing in the act of reserving a room (typically 2 nights are required in order to reserve), which might I add — is nonrefundable, I humbly suggest you give Motel 6 a buzz to see if they’ve left the light on???

Hotel Metropole rooms have a nice updated modern décor are the beds are comfortable. The staff are friendly and helpful. WARNING!!! Do not get a room 204 near the Von’s alley like we did. In fact, do not book any deluxe rooms. Trucks are unloading produce all morning Saturday morning. What we heard was extremely loud noises from 5:30am to 5pm at night. Its 5:47 am and I’m hearing loud squeaky breaks and beeping noises of trucks backing up as I type this review.
Von’s employees are using the dolly to unload groceries and it is so horribly loud. The trash truck just emptied out the dumpster at 8am! The trash man emptied out the dumpster then dropped it on the pavement from 2 feet in the air. It sounded like he dropped a bomb in the alley. My dream of sleeping in was quickly lost by crazy loud Von’s trucks and trash man.
I called the front desk and they can’t move us because the hotel is full. Hotel rooms 200 to 210 has the worst location ever. The front desk said they will discount my room 15 percent which was nice but, not nice enough. I would come back and stay here only if someone paid $ 500 for the ocean view suite for me. I wonder if my post will be deleted by Metropole? Mom and Dad, did you read this? If you come to the island I suggest booking the Pavilion Hotel instead or pay top dollar for the Metropole ocean view suite.

This is a nice hotel, but is quite expensive, especially during the summer. The rooms are neat, well kept, and comfortable. Some rooms have a nice view of the water or looking over the courtyard. Ours just looked out over a side street, so it wasn’t that nice. The bathroom had a huge tub and separate shower. I heard some rooms had no tub but a really nice shower. The rooms have a king bed, a small table and chairs, and a TV. They also have turn-​down service.
The location is great. There’s a Von’s right next door and lots of shops, to include boutique, bites to eat, and a café nearby.
It’s a good choice to stay based on proximity to everything, but I think it’s overpriced. I’m not sure how it compares to nearby hotels.

YAY: convenient location, very clean rooms & hallways, comfortable beds, smooth sheets, fireplace, wooden floors, dvd player, fridge (special request), great food (breakfast/​lunch/​dinner), perfect location for events, great front desk and service staff.
NAY: no pool, 4 – 6 person jacuzzi, loud live music at night (till 9pm), linoleum stairwell needs major renovation.
Overall, I highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

I really wanted to love this resort. I splurged and got the VIP wing suite OCEAN FRONT ROOM. It wasn’t cheap, and I was so disappointed I splurged on this one. I’ll list my top complaints:
1. Staff was rude at check-​in. They seemed more bothered I was there than helpful to check me in. Room wasn’t available when they said it would be & that was (latest check-​in possible)
2. Room itself was a large disappointment. It needed some serious maintenance. Light fixtures coming out of ceiling, ½ of the outlets were loose and not working, tub was dirty, no safe in room, brown water with wilting «fresh flowers» as advertised
3. View is deceiving on website. From the pictures, it looked as if we were closer to the water. Unfortunately, you have a busy street in front of the view. Understandable that this is the layout in Avalon, but this road is SO BUSY. To keep your patio open is pure torture and by patio I mean RAILING. From the pictures it looked like there would be a patio, but it’s indeed only a railing. The view is ruined when you can’t enjoy it with the window open. And be prepared for everyone in Avalon to see you in your room. I opened up the window coverings with a robe on, and there was nice cheers to go along with it from patrons dining across the street. With your «patio» doors closed, it does have good sound proofing for that busy street
4. VIP wing isn’t connected to hotel. Just be prepared to haul your stuff on cobblestone streets to get to your wing. Not a huge deal, but an inconvenience. Especially when you paid top dollar, & have a staff not willing to even give you a smile
5. Breakfast was on the low end of an average continental. The couple pastries they had were hard. Juice was warm on my VIP wing floor, and there was a few bananas
This hotel needs to take some serious tips from its patrons on staff training, cleaning and making a true guest experience for people like me who paid in the high $ 600’s for one night. (OUCH)! Definitely was burned on choosing this place. BURNED at the Pole!
