Windy Point Park

Our first trip made us return customers. Camping is what we do coast to coast, and this is one of my favorite new found campgrounds.
Scuba classes, underwater scenery, swimming, fishing, all on a 14 million dollar lakefront proprty.
Two thumbs up and 5 stars for true tent camping.

Great SCUBA park. Owner was friendly and helpful to repair minor failures in our gear. Reasonably priced and easy to work with. I will be back!

I consider Windy Point Park to be one of Austin’s best kept secrets. Northwest of Austin off RM 620, it’s an easy drive with plenty of parking.
Set on a cliff overlooking Lake Travis (you can see Mansfield dam), and covered with trees, it’s a beautiful place to dive, have a picnic, or camp.
Richard Barstow, owner of Windy Point Park, keeps the park immaculate, and there are dressing rooms and port-​o-​potties, and carts to bring down your gear.
Stop by Windy Point Park; you won’t regret it.

Watch out! This place is a scam unless you’re doing some long-​term camping. We were headed to Bob Wentz Park and took an unfortunate turn (in the same driveway) off to the right and thought we were in Wentz. Instead we ended up getting ripped off for a simple walk in the park.

Make sure you stay to the left and don’t wander into the private «Windy Point.» Some guy comes out and intimidates you into paying him $ 15/​head for walking on his property.

This area was a campground type situation that was on a mountainous/​cliff area overlooking the lake. It was beautiful scenery, but that’s where it ends.
To get to the water, you have to walk vicious stairs on a hill of massive rock-​boulders, about 40-​ish feet worth. Do not expect a leisure, lazy beach day.

The light breeze keeps it from being too hot without being annoying, though the muddy bottom takes some getting used to for an ocean girl :)

It was our first visit, and my brother wanted to show us some cool places in the area before he took us to the airport. The guy that runs the business was very rude and told us that we couldn’t go without paying even though we said we just wanted to look at the lake and head back that wasn’t gonna take more than 5min. We for sure won’t be coming back eventhough the place looked pretty nice to come and do a picnic. Way to go and do business sir! You definitely were rude and not welcoming at all.

On list of «Things I miss most about Austin», Windy Point Park is at número uno. If it were possible for a person to die due to overwhelming beauty, this would be the place that would happen.
It’s a bit pricier than it’s slutty counterpart Windy Point, but trust me, you pay for pure happiness. It’s also a campground, so you can spend entire weeks hanging out by the water, getting tan and drinking miller light. I was going to list a nicer beer, but really you don’t need anything better than miller light to enjoy at Windy Point Park. You can bring your doggie, and he will jump out into the water to bite on to your floatie and drag you back to shore. I’m always like, «no bitch I’m tanning!»
I think I saw people putt putting once. OH and people teach scuba diving here, so if you see tons of bubbles floating around you don’t have a stroke like I did.
Central Texas is absolutely gorgeous, and Lake Travis is a huge part of why.
