Tran Steven, OD PA

Dr. Steven Tran (11 066 Pecan Park Blvd, Cedar Park (near Lakeline Mall) is incredible. He has been my Optometrist for a couple years and always spends quality time tweaking my prescription. Since I use bi-​focal contacts which are expensive I really appreciate his level of competence and dedication to make sure I can achieve the best vision possible. I highly recommend him and although I live in Georgetown I will continue to make the drive for his service.

I’m so relieved to know that others had the same experience I did. I went for an exam in 2011 and it was very uncomfortable because everything I said turned into an argument. He became so upset when I told him I wanted my prescription so I could order the contacts online. He obviously wanted me to order contacts from him so he could make money but I don’t want to pay so much and I also have the right to buy them wherever I want. and he kept pushing me to buy vitamins for my eyes and eyedrops. When I told him I really don’t need them he threatened me by telling me how terrible my eye condition was. He also limited the amount of contacts I could order so that he could force me to come back in exactly 12 months or less and I told him that by federal law he could not limit the number of contacts I ordered and asked him how he would know if I like to use 4 week contacts for only 2 weeks and need more than average. never ever going back.

Dr. Tran is the Optometrist for my entire family. We have also sent our friends to him and they, in turn, sent their friends to Dr. Tran. He is a highly-​educated medical doctor. He has been awarded into the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Both of these Societies are exclusive to the best of the best, highly skilled, top of their class gifted and talented.
I highly recommend Dr. Tran for all medical needs regarding the eyes and surrounding area of the eyes. The reviews below should be disregarded as Dr. Tran’s Optometry office is next store to Pearle Vision by Lakeline Mall. He does not work at a Walmart as stated in previous reviews. Anyone who has an issue with Dr. Tran clearly has an issue with everyone. He is a brilliant, caring physician who takes the time to make sure all your questions are answered and that your prescription is perfectly measured.
We are very grateful to have found Dr. Tran in Austin and you will be also.

I completely disagree with the prior negative posts!
I have been a patient of Dr. Tran’s for the last 5 years. He has worked long hours and 7 days per week since I became his patient. He accepts both walk-​ins and appointments. I personally would make an appointment first because he has a lot of patients.
Dr. Tran used to be located in Sunset Valley outside of the Walmart (Hwy 290), but was never affiliated with the chain. He constantly had to handle the rude Walmart clientele demanding immediate service even when his schedule was full. As an observant patient, I noticed at the Hwy 290 location, a lot of the walk-​ins were solely Spanish-​speaking and felt entitled. I believe that may be where the disconnect is between the prior Unilocal and myself.
Dr. Tran is very patient and never sends anyone away. I have seen him stay after hours to ensure everyone had been assisted. He spends a lot of time with each patient, getting to know specifics and fully documents all of his notes. Dr. Tran is highly educated and has received many awards for his abilities.
He has recently relocated to the Lakeline Mall area next to Pearle Vision. His new business address is 11 066 Pecan Park Rd, Cedar Park, TX 78 613. He has hired a new receptionist that is pleasant and helpful.
While I was a student, Dr. Tran worked with me on my payments. He is wonderful. I have referred all of my family and friends to him.
Dr. Tran is a fabulous doctor.

I told Dr. Tran that I needed computer glasses «like these» pointing to a $ 10 walmart el-​cheapo glasses. I told him that I just needed anti-​reflective (AR) coatings but that this magnification was correct.
He measured my eyes rather hurriedly as though he had something else to do. He then wrote out a prescription for quadrafocals. walmart ground them.
The first grind was window glass. Zero magnification.
They found their error, ground the second pair to the prescription and made me wait another week.
The glasses worked great at 6 inches and were completely useless as computer glasses. I told him and he corrected the prescription.
The third pair were only slightly different that the second after another week of waiting.
I tried to impress upon him that these drug store glasses work. Just put an AR coating on them. That is all I want.
The 4^th grinding finally worked a month after starting the ordeal.
Until I went on vacation and wore then on top of my head out in the sun for a few days. I could not get them clean. I thought I had scratched them.
It turns out that the coatings «crazed», delaminating from the glass and cracking like old china. I was told that after 90 days there was no material warranty and that I would have to buy 2 new lenses. I wrote a letter to walmart corporate and they did not even bother to acknowledge it.
Yesterday, I scratched one of the lenses even though I was charged for an anti-​scratch coating.
The nice lady at walmart optical just told me that since my prescription is 13 months old, I would need to:
A) get a new eye exam
B) Buy 2 new lenses (even though only 1 is damaged) and
C) Buy new frames. Can’t put new lenses in old frames?
I was told that this was walmart policy.
After spending ~$ 600 there 13 months ago, I have nothing.
I will never do business there again. Avoid like the plague!

Not only was Tran patronizing to me throughout the appointment, but he was overly condescending to both me, my family, and my family doctor. During the entire appointment, it seemed as if Tran s sole purpose was to act superior and belittle me in any way possible.
I have a congenital eye syndrome, and, not fully aware of what exactly this syndrome was at the time, I decided to ask Tran for his advice. Without hesitation, Tran believed that I had a lazy eye. Clearly, even without going through the process of becoming an optometrist, anyone would know that this isn t the case. However, Tran was steadfast and confident in his statement. After telling him that both my family and family doctor said that it was not a lazy eye, Tran began to belittle them and, once again, make himself look superior. The next week I scheduled an appointment with an ophthalmologist who diagnosed me with Duanes Type II, a syndrome completely different than lazy eye in its origin, signs and symptoms. Tran obviously did not have the intelligence and academic rigor to support such false claims.
If I could give him zero stars, I would. I have never been talked down to and belittled by anyone else more than I was with Tran. In addition, as an adult-​to-​adult and «doctor”-to-patient, he began to argue with me, being both disrespectful and unethical. In other words, he shouldn t be an optometrist. He lacks both the academic knowledge and communication skills that are needed in such a profession.

I went in early in the day, told that he was available for a walk in that would take 25min or so. 20 min later, she still hadn’t verified my insurance. So I left and scheduled an appointment for 4:45. I get there right at 4:45 and she proceeds to continue the walk ins that were waiting. Now it has been an hour and a half and I’m still waiting!!! What’s the point of scheduling an appointment if they don’t treat them as one?! Won’t be coming back.

This Walmart optometrist’s office runs a very unfortunate scam. My wife provided them our vision insurance information, but when she went for her appointment she was told they «didn’t have time» to input it so she’d have to pay full price and get reimbursed. So she rescheduled to give them more time.
Then on her second visit, they somehow still «didn’t have time» to input her insurance info, so, again, she’d have to pay full price and get reimbursed. This time she relented. Then she gets a call three weeks later and is told they have a reimbursement check for her. What she wasn’t told was that they have some ridiculous policy that if you don’t come in within a certain time frame to pick it up, they deduct $ 20 from the check.
Seriously? You charge me $ 20 because I didn’t pick up my money, which I shouldn’t’ have had to pay in the first place, fast enough? After all the stuff about not having «enough time» to input our insurance, it was infuriating. I’m considering reporting them to the BBB, but for now this honest review will do. Stay away.

I had a great experience with Dr. Tran and will definitely go back to him. He’s very nice and friendly, and was thorough and careful with each element of the exam. He explained possible causes of my vision degeneration, and was patient when I was looking through the machine trying to decide which option was sharper overall (my eyes are different levels of messed up, so it was a tough call at times). He seemed to be focused on ensuring I got the exact right prescription.
I requested both contacts and glasses, though I never wear the contacts because I don’t like poking myself in the eye. I was a little worried that one or the other would give me a headache or some kind of adjustment side effects, but both corrected my vision equally well. I couldn’t get over how different the world looked when I could actually see.

Steven Tran is the doctor at the Walmart Vision Center off 290 and Mopac. I really wish he had more reviews so I could’ve avoided this nonsense altogether.
I could’ve guessed the experience was going to be a bad one when I first walked in and a man followed me into the office, yelling wildly at the doctor because he had given him a useless prescription. I laughed it off and tried to side with the doctor and I even said ‘what a nut!’ because some people are just… crazy over-​reactors, but I then had the EXACT SAME terrible experience. The entire exam was awkward… he’s a little socially inept, his receptionist was unfriendly, but I tried not to let that affect my judgement. Toward the end of the exam, however, he gave me a set of contacts that were… much… weaker than my previous lenses. I have a degenerative eye condition and I know for a FACT my eyes are worse (which is why I made the appointment in the first place) so I told him immediately ‘this isn’t right…’ and demanded he retest me. He said the prescription was right that my eyes had improved, but humored me and retested my eyes. They were, in fact, worse. So then he decided my prescription hadn’t changed at all. At this point, it felt like a legitimate guess… he finally admitted that I should come back in a week for a retest, that my contacts had skewed the test and I needed to let my eyes rest for a week. He made me uncomfortable, I feel like he’s just guessing most of the time, and he’s rude. I cried when I had to pay for the exam that didn’t end in a prescription. Awful experience. Awful awful awful.
