Best eye exam ever. Staff was incredibly friendly, Dr. Packer was great. Efficient and thorough. Used newest technologies. I usually avoid going in for my eye appointments. This was easy and comfortable. Highly recommend.

First time patient at Lone Star Eye today. The entire staff from receptionist to assistants to doctor were incredibly friendly. The office has updated technology and Dr. Packer and his staff are knowledgeable and professional. I let them know I was very price sensitive and Dr. Packer worked with me to find the right contact lens for my prescription and price point. I highly recommend!

I walked in late to my appointment frazzled from having a weirdly chaotic day and the staff was immediately friendly and helpful, and check-​in was super quick. I don’t have kids but there’s a game console to occupy them, and coffee/​tea/​water in the reception area.
This was my first eye appointment ever, so I had some questions during the weird (but not uncomfortable) tests, and they were all answered. Dr. Packer gave me the rundown on my results — he’s very personable and seems very knowledgeable.
Afterward I was assisted with choosing frames. I ultimately went elsewhere, because the prices were steeper than identical frames I found online, but they were helpful and had a good selection.

Hands down, the best eye care experience I’ve ever had! Dr. Packer and his staff were super friendly, helpful and professional. I didn’t have a long wait (less than 5 minutes) which was almost a bummer because the waiting room was so comfortable and relaxing (complete with a Keurig!). My appointment did not take long, but didn’t feel rushed at all. I ordered a pair of glasses, and left with a pair of trial contacts that I plan to order as well. I’ve never been so excited for my glasses to come in– I can’t wait!
My fiancé had a contact lens exam a few days later, and was impressed with their professionalism and customer service as well. I highly recommend Lone Star Eye!

Dr. Packer and his team are fantastic! This office is really well organized, friendly, modern (equipment and aesthetics) and provides a stress-​free experience.

Now we have all 3 of our boys and both me and my husband as patients. Dr. Packer is funny and deals with the boys great. They actually look forward to going over to see him (they are 11, 13, and 15) so this is nothing short of a miracle. He is SO professional and smart — I trust him completely to take care of our family. There is no guesswork involved. And he has a big heart.

Generally, I do not do reviews (especially not on optometrists, because I’ve never had much success). This was such a great experience that I could not not write a review. First off, I showed up 30 minutes early and planned to get started on hefty paperwork and wait a long time. My «wait» was maybe 10 minutes – most of which was my fault because I was chatting with the ladies up front. AND they dealt with my nervous chatter that I get when surfacing from the depths of virology and parasitism.
I have very tricky eyes (color impairment, too) and have always been told that I would not be able to have ²⁰⁄₂₀; I’ve never had good depth perception, have worn readers for years, and have great difficulty seeing in low light. The process of finding the ideal prescription is always so lengthy and I cannot describe how much I hate it. However, Dr. Packer was so thorough that he had a prescription idea already and the awful «1 or 2, 2 or 3, …» took all of 2 minutes. I was giddy when I left because I could see so clearly. I am so, insanely thrilled to say that I have now done quite a bit of reading with NO readers AND didn’t have to hardcore squint at dusk. Absolute highlight of my day. So, so, so great.

I was having some vision problems after a car accident and was able to see Dr. Packer within a couple of days. He did a complete exam and was very informative. The office experience was smooth and everyone very nice.

Highly qualified, competent and friendly doctor. The staff is first rate and make you feel comfortable from the moment you walk in. The office has all the latest equipment. All is outstanding. What more could you ask for?

Lone Star Eye provides the best service for eye exam and glasses I’ve found in Austin. All the staff are very friendly and helpful, and Dr. Packer was great. His exam was thorough, and my prescription was dead-​on. When there was a problem that delayed the manufacture of my glasses, Clarissa worked to quickly resolve it, and I was given a discount for the inconvenience. I will definitely be going back!

Went back for an annual go around. Bought some cool frames and was treated like royalty once again by Dr. Packer and all of his staff. I’m a lifer with Lone Star Eye. It’s too bad other healthcare companies don’t run their businesses like this.

My return visit to Dr. Packer and his team was even better than the first visit — they’re professional, fun, personable, and caring — and have a great selection of frames. No wait, fully up to date and convenient technology that removes any discomfort or ‘touchiness’ from the exam (I mean, no one liked the old ‘puff of air’ thing and it’s gone!) and just a great experience. I almost wish I needed to visit more often — almost :) Thank you, Dr. Packer!

I had a great experience at Lone Star Eye. Just the drive there was pretty enough to make my day.
The check-​in was simple. I love that I didn’t have to fill out a 5 page patient history questionnaire. The wait was no more than 5 minutes which was ok but I was kinda bummed out because I had my eye on the video games in the reception area.
His staff is great and made me feel very comfortable. Explained each step and the reason behind it.
Dr. Packer was nice and went through the exam results with me. I went in for contacts and I was ready to defend my choice and stand my ground on no glasses, but it wasn’t necessary. He understood my logic and didn’t push any other products or exams. I left with a pair of contacts, which I wasn’t expecting. I thought I’d have to order and wait a week for them.
Overall great place, fantastic staff and doctor.

We are new to Austin and needed a new doctor for our son. We made the right decision! Dr. Packer’s staff was exceptional — from initial testing to vision screening to glasses selection and ordering. Dr. packer was patient and thorough. He asked questions, listened, made our son feel comfortable and explained the various test results. Unlike the last Dr. We took our son to, we did not feel like cattle but as people being helped. We could not be happier with the experience and would strongly recommend Dr. packer to anyone looking for a Dr. and team who obviously love what they do.

Appointments are on time, with text reminders a few days in advance. Staff is well trained, very customer oriented and very pleasant to deal with. Dr. Casey Packard is our primary doctor for my wife and I and we both find him engaging, down to earth and very personable. He’s very knowledgeable and walks you through the results of your eye exams on the computer so you can see what he’s describing. Nothing but positives to say about him and his staff. We’ll be back!
SInce the pictures show some of the office equipment, I thought I’d just add that everything seems top of the line and state of the art.

Who knew that a visit to the eye doctor could be ENJOYABLE? Well, I certainly wasn’t expecting it, but I had a fantastic experience.
First of all, I was 30 minutes early to my 5pm appointment. I was shocked and very pleased that they took me back to begin within 2 – 3 minutes of arriving. How refreshing not to sit and wait!
If you’re like 98.9% of the human race and HATE getting dilated, this is the place to go — they use new technology that can take a scan of your eye without any dilation. It was ACTUALLY painless! No puff of air, no horrible drops. You just look into a little light and it takes a scan in .5 seconds.
The entire office is up to date with modern technology — even the color test was on an iPad. Marissa, who did all my initial tests before Dr. Packer came in, was extremely nice, patient, efficient, and very personable. She didn’t leave me to sit in the room for 15 minutes alone, either. When she said «I’ll be right back!» she ACTUALLY was right back — I never waited longer than about a minute and a half.
After the initial tests, Dr. Packer came in. I knew from reviews that he was young and, well, let’s face it — attractive. But, what a fantastic personality too! We joked around a bit, and he made me feel at ease. What he did that I was very impressed and pleased by was EDUCATE me. He showed me the photos and scans they took of my eyes, pointed out what they were looking for in each, and explained what he saw in my photos specifically. He even showed me examples of other «example» scans so I could see a comparison of my eye to someone with a more severe issue.
After discussing my eye health, we did the prescription and he explained to me that if two of the options in the whole «which looks better? one… or two…» game look very similar, that he actually wants to know that, rather than me choosing one or the other. I never knew! I always thought it was a test.
Finally, we discussed my contacts. He suggested changing up the specific «model» of contact I used (but sticking with the same brand). He got me samples and I put them in, and happened to mention that I often experience some irritation when I first put the contacts in (thinking this was normal and unavoidable). He asked how long it lasts, and I told him 10 – 20 minutes. He suggested that I try a different brand of contact altogether, since the material of my original brand may be irritating. We tried a new brand and voila! It was like water on my eye. I had been using my previous brand for EIGHT YEARS. What a huge relief to find something that actually works for me!
All in all, this was the best experience at an eye doctor that I’ve ever had. Absolutely can’t say enough good things about the customer service and quality of service this office provides. Everyone who works there impressed me, and I will certainly continue coming here! (Plus, if he’s going to help you see better, why not have an eye doctor that’s eye candy himself?)
