I have worked with a number of realtors over the years to acquire or sell properties, yet going forward I will only work with one — Tom Amiss.
When my wife and I moved to Austin a few years ago, our plan was to rent a home in the Zilker area for a couple of months as we identified which part of town would be the best fit for us. In a very short time after moving into the rental house we realized that we had already found the perfect neighborhood and our next task was to find a Realtor to help us make our dream a reality.
We interviewed a number of Austin area realtors, yet within five minutes of meeting with Tom we knew he was the right realtor for us. As some of the other reviewers have pointed out, Tom has a tremendous amount of real estate experience, a keen eye for construction details and has his finger on the pulse of the Austin real estate market. I think all of these attributes are important qualities when evaluating a realtor, yet the deciding factor for us was very simple… Tom actually cared about us. It wasn’t merely a transaction for him to close as quickly and painlessly as possible so that he could get paid and move on to the next deal, he truly wanted to help us find the home of our dreams… no matter how much time it took! During our home search process Tom was extremely patient, knowledgeable, and always dedicated to helping us find the perfect property. In the end, I feel very confident in saying we wouldn’t have found our dream home if it wasn’t for Tom’s patience, and dedication to always putting the interests of his clients first.

We could not have asked for a more knowledgeable and dedicated realtor than what we found when we met Tom Amiss. We could tell Tom valued relationships, was straight forward and very patient from our first meeting, which were the main reasons we chose him. Tom is a Rock Star!
Yesterday we closed on the 5^th property that we have either bought or sold with our dear friend Tom Amiss. He’s without a doubt an A gamer in the real estate business in Austin, Texas! His talents are many but let’s start from the top…
Tom was originally recommended to me in 1991 on the purchase of my very first home. I was single and looking for a small house in South Austin giving me good access to Zilker park, downtown and the music scene. After several meetings with Tom, he suggested that I would probably like the 78 704 area best and that while there wasn’t a lot available at the time… he would call me when the right opportunity came along. He made sure I got all my ducks in a row and was prepared to make the offer on the right deal when it came along. It wasn’t very long and houses started popping up and Tom was always quick to call me to schedule a walk thru and within a couple of months… I had the house of my dreams on Kinney Ave just mins. to Zilker Park and Barton Springs.
A couple of years later… I met a man that I was sure I would one day marry and so when he started looking for a house… I steered him towards Tom and again since the parameters were similar to mine… south Austin, Zilker, & music scene… he too ended up buying a home in Barton Hills. Before long… Wheat and I were married and one of the houses became the perfect rental. Both of these above transactions went off without a single hitch… Tom always ensuring that we had the right people on board and that everything would run smoothly and it always did.
About 4 years later… we decided that we wanted a little more room and that’s when we moved to Travis Country… a little more south, and the opportunity to build exactly what we wanted! That required us to sell my Kinney house and again we hired Tom to make the sell. Together we evaluated the market, came up with an appropriate asking price and I don’t even think it ever went into MLS, it was SOLD. No problems!
After 5 more years… Wheat and I decided we wanted to move to the country, get a couple of horses and live the western lifestyle we had always dreamed of and while Tom wasn’t part of this transaction (we used a horse property specialist for this)…we have always remained close friends of Tom and promised to let him handle the eventual sell of our 2 rental properties in Austin. That’s where we are today and Tom has just helped us sell both properties, one in December 2014 and one this past month. Both were on the market for just a few days and sold at close to full price. I have to give all the credit to Tom who insisted 20 years ago that we buy in the 78 704 zip code, it’s not just a zip code… it’s a lifestyle. Thanks Tom… we love you!
I want to wrap up by adding that Tom is my go to resource now for anything real estate in Austin including handyman contacts, plumbers, electricians, lawn service… anything. His knowledge on the important stuff is invaluable, his response time is lightening bolt fast, he’s tech savvy and an all around great guy. And an added bonus… Tom throws a blowout appreciation party for his customers and friends every year which we love to attend. He’s been known to rally the troops for bowling, bbq and river rafting excursions and without a doubt is the «coolest guy in real estate in Austin». Don’t take my word for it… call him today!

We just bought a house with Tom in Circle C and closed on it in March 2013. Tom is a great Realtor but he is also so much more than that. We were referred by a friend to work with Tom and we are very happy we decided to work with him. We moved into Austin, TX from out of state and as new comers to the area Tom was a perfect person to work with.
While we were shopping for neighbourhoods and houses he also introduced us to the city of Austin and let us know about many events, restaurants, and places the locals prefer. Working with him is a great way to acclimate to Austin and you also get a house in process. It’s a great deal.
He is well connected and it is a valuable thing to be part of his network in Austin. Whenever we needed to find a professional to help with anything we would ask Tom and he would guide us to the best people around.
He is very direct and honest in telling you why the house you are looking at is or is not a good house to buy. In fact, he talked us out of several houses that we wanted to buy and once we were done with house buying we ended up with a house that we are much happier with than some of the earlier houses we thought we wanted. So he is not in a hurry to sell you a house and get get paid. He wants to make sure you get the right house above all else.
He also knows very well how the system works and what needs to be done to get your offer to be the top offer when you do find the house you want. He makes great effort to be the preferred buyers agent to work with for the seller’s side and give you the best chances of getting your house. It was a great experience working with him even in the frustrating Austin housing market where inventory does not meet the demand for the number of buyers.
