Thundercloud is nothing special. It’s Hit or Miss depending on the attitude of the person making your food. Smoothies used to be my go-to item. Turns out only one person made them properly and they left. The sandwiches are okay. The bread is nothing to write home about and the meats you can get at your own grocery store. I prefer sandwich shop that cooks their own meat. I don’t need someone else to assemble pre cut meat for me, I can do that on my own.

Who doesn’t like a good Thundercloud sub? These guys are an Austin staple. The veggie delight is my go to sub for the last 20 years. Love them. Don’t forget the thunder sauce — it really brings it all together.

Been going to this place for over 10 years now. You could say it’s a favorite of mine! Every time it’s wonderful and the people that work there are always so kind.

Boyfriend says they are the best sandwich place in Austin. I say they definitely come close. Great eggsalad.

Hands down best subs ever! I love this place :) the two guys running the store at night are really accommodating and friendly. My girlfriend has lived around the corner for a year and has never been here and now she wants to come once a week :)

Wow, have heard of Thunderclouds for several years and have to admit the modest building and less than attractive atmosphere have kept me away. Wow, how was I wrong in so many ways! I’m sorry for that, one of the best subs I’ve heard, and how needs all the flashy signs, photos, etc… They have all that matters, awesome staff, a very clean facility and good food that truly puts all the chain subway shops to shame! Fresh ingredients, the staff was outstanding and it was just a damn good sandwich that had a very unique taste… Not blab at all! Well done, I will be back and I’m bringing friends with me!

I’ve been enjoying their April specials. Unfortunately, it seems that every time I tip when I pay, I go to eat my sandwich and find out they’ve gotten my order wrong. I do feel they consistently use way too much mayo. Their price for their quality is fine but I feel it could be slightly cheaper as nothing is that impressive yet never disappointing… well, as long as the order is correct.

Religious hand-washers, focused sandwich-builders, perfect casual pricing. The bread is local and fresh, and the options are versatile but not schmancy. TS is definitely not about ambience, but it’s been Feeding Austin Weird for decades – get your sandwich on here in cutoffs, not slacks Finally, chew on this: Thundercloud has raised over 2.5 million dollars for Caritas of Austin to fight poverty and homelessness. Eat here and support the clean hands and good heart of Thundercloud.

Well, the sandwiches were very tasty. the good thing is they wash their hands and has a certain person to complete the transaction.. The downfall is they don’t wear gloves at all… bare hands making sanwiches… i hope they wash their hands thoroughly. If the company can add gloves to the policy, it’d be safer.

The tuna sub rocks the house… the service is fast and love the fresh bread… Now the. décor needs.lots.of help… it does not have a stay & eat it here feel… so i always take to go. I have ordered the salads but they are not a very good size… i always have to ask for extra tomatoe and think they should add more lettuce.

I have never been treated so rudely in a food establishment. I was running within 15 – 20 minutes of closing when I phoned in an order. I still arrived at least 10 min prior to closing to pick up and purchase my order. The location was filthy and disgusting. The staff well I can not say a good thing about it. As I was leaving the establishment turned to enter my vehicle the guy that was helping me took what appeared to be a tip jar(as I went to another establishment on another visit and realized) and threw it at the door. Customers beware!!!

I like Thundercloud. The sandwiches are good, the service is quick, and the prices are fair($ 7). My only concern is that many of the employees are putting sandwiches together directly with their hands… no gloves… I haven’t gotten sick though, so I guess they do wash up enough! This is a great quick spot to pick up lunch if you’re in the area. They put your lunch together fast and the employees seem to be pretty upbeat, friendly people. Bonus points, they have sprouts!!! My favorite combination is whole wheat with turkey, spicy mustard, avocado, cucumber, lettuce, tomato and sprouts. Whenever I don’t bring lunch to work I’ll be going here because it’s yummy, affordable, and fast(unlike CB Deli up the street…)!

Ok, actually Unilocal,I hate this place. I didn’t notice this before but NOONEWEARSGLOVES, hairnets, anything. I had the same experience as reviewer Melanie D. A woman coughed(a wet cough, a productive, deep chest cough) all over my sandwich, and coughed so hard she left the room. She did appear to wash her hands but she was clearly sick with a URI and had already been glovelessly handling my sandwich. She apologized, laughing a little. I said, «you know what, I get colds very easily, and you aren’t wearing gloves…» She cut me off and became instantly irate, half yelling, «I washed my hands! What do you want, I washed my hands!» She made a scene, tried to embarrass me. Little did she know I am much more immune to embarrassment than I am to headcolds. I held my own and walked out. As I shut the door, I heard her yell, «Whatever». Whatever indeed. I echo concerns about health code compliance, maybe they’re due for a surprise visit. Also, another thing I didn’t note before is that they seem to be a libertarian stronghold, with Ron Paul and 9⁄11 conspiracy bumper stickers everywhere. Gross.

«I’m making this sandwich for me, you just happen to be eating it.» That’s what the employee said to me when I applauded his precision and care when making my sandwich. These guys make sandwiches as if they were going to be the ones eating them. Great customer service. I’ve already reviewed this place but I wanted to make sure to add that quote from my latest visit. Good stuff.

Sandwiches of all kinds. Hot, non hot, chips, soups, treats. Friendly staff and great for a quick lunch. Lunch can get pretty packed but the sandwich makers are pretty fast. There is almost always a weekly special, my average lunch here is around $ 7 for a sandwich, chips and drink. Booth seating. Casual setting.

This location(which is the same as the listing under N I H 35& Hwy 290 E) is totally disgusting, and I hope the Health Department surprises them with an inspection soon. The guy who made my sandwich kept rubbing his nose and very obviously had a cold. At one point he covered his mouth to cough and continued to make my sandwich. I had to stop him and tell him I wanted someone else to make me a new sandwich. He obviously had no clue why I didn’t want his grimy hands all over my food. Completely revolting. The person who remade my sandwich was apologetic and looked pretty guilty about the situation. I don’t walk into any Thundercloud location thinking it’s going to be the most sanitary place in the world(it’s a hippie kind of place after all), but seriously? The manager of this store should be fired if employees are forced to come into work sick or if they aren’t forced to go home if they come in hacking and sneezing all over peoples’ food.

Okay typically I’m a huge fan of this location, always well taken care of. My last two experiences have left a NASTY taste in my mouth per say… Direct and to my point: I called in a to-go order, while I was running some errands. So when I arrived, thinking it would be easy out and go… WRONG My order was never made, and was still sitting next to the phone. So as I patiently waited for them to locate my order, nobody seemed to notice this mistake… I really enjoy watching people play around pretending they don’t know WHERE or WHY my food was never made or my personal favorite, PUSHINGTHEBUCK. Blaming someone else for their mistake… At least the nice guy from Mississippi took care of the mistake and handled it well Second time: Ordered a pick-up again Waited in the LINE, not thinking that waiting in a REGULARLINE or PICK-UP made the difference… Well apparently it does! Got up to the counter, told the girl«I’ve got it easy one for you, pick-up». Pointed back at the other line, REALLY you just can’t hand me my salad. How flipping LAZY are you. Are you kidding me, you seriously! Yeah glad I know where you find your NADACHICKEN patties! I wont be back for while. and I’ve been going for 7 years great way to annoy loyal customers, I hear this business is GREAT at that. Before sure to check out the LAVACA location. They like to YELL at their customers.

This is my favorite Thundercloud location for a variety of reasons. 1) They consistently make the best California Club I’ve ever eaten. They’re not stingy with toppings, either. I always get black olives added to my sandwich and they fill that thing with olives. That’s basically five stars right there. 2) The staff are all super friendly. They’ll chat with me while making my sandwich and I’ve never once gotten someone who was grumpy or unpleasant. I started coming so much that I’m pretty sure they all started to recognize me, too. 3) The staff are also super fast and efficient. Even during the crazy lunch rush, I’m never waiting for more than 10 minutes to get a sandwich. 4) Seriously, the best California Club every. single. time. And they have Miss Vickie’s jalapeño chips! 5) I love this place so much, I know the Thundercloud jingle by heart. This both concerns and amuses my friends. Ask me to sing it for you some time — prepare to be amazed!

Right now this mama-to-be is craving tomatoes and where can I get a delicious tomatoey sauce? Thundercloud! That’s where. I get the meatball sub for this little craving and it fixes me right up. I am not too keen on cold cuts so I have never gotten the other options here, but I can definitely vouch for that meatball sub. Just wish the meatballs were a bit small so I didn’t have to bite into a big hunk o’ meat for one little bite. Also, have them slice up a pickle spear for you. It goes perfectly with your sub!

The guy and girl that work at this particular store have been there a long time, and I’ve been coming here since ’99. Thundercloud has always been a great go-to place for a quick and cheap sandwich, and their quality is very good. My faves include the NY Italian, California Club, The Office Favorite(egg salad and bacon), and the Pastrami — — although I got to try their Nada Chicken Parmesan during a specials week and I must say it was quite awesome! LOVE the Thunder sauce and their hot /spicy relish(that usually goes on the Italian). It’s quick and good food, and they always have a weekly special going on, but the kudos for this review has to go to the guy(skinny w/brown hair) and gal(red hair w/tatoos) at this specific store — — they are quick, friendly, and efficient. Over the past several visits they have pumped out some awesome subs w/over-the-top customer service — — that’s 5 stars in my book — — it keeps me coming back!

I can’t believe it. A Thundercloud located in Austin that actually has employees that smile… and get this — make small talk with you. Every time I visit I actually WANT to tip them and not do it because I know this hipster in front of me will roll his eyes with emo dismay if I don’t shell out a dollar. During busy lunches they actually have 4 – 5 people working the front. It’s efficiency at its greatest. The long lines never phase me because I know they are busting ass to get you in and out. The other locations really need to take a lesson from the staff here. A smile can make a world of difference.

I’ve never actually been dying to try out Thundercloud, but thanks to that Kroger-like jingle on the radio that’s always in my head, my starving body at work today and the fact that it is about 30 seconds from my workplace, I finally gave in. I love subs to begin with, but somehow they managed to make average ingredients taste good. It might have gotten extra points because of the Miss Vickie’s. Average ham, average cheese, average vegetables, but possibly sub-par bread in comparison to other sub shops where it’s often toasted, buttered, chewier. and less stale. It was a tiny bit buttered which tasted good toward the end, but maybe I’m too sheltered by the delicious bread at jimmy john’s or the option to toast my sub at subways or quiznos. Bread is a big factor and Thundercloud just wasn’t doing it for me. I was a bit turned off at the fact that they don’t use gloves when preparing your sandwich, but the girl making my sandwich looked like she had good hygiene, was super friendly, and drew my mustard on in the shape of a smiley face. If someone else had made it for me I’m not sure I’d be enjoying it as much, but I hear they are all super friendly. I appreciate Thundercloud’s rep and loyal followers describing it as «Austiny» and«filled with tradition» and I’m sure I will return, but it didn’t exactly blow me away.
