Oh I hate knee jerk reviews, I really do. I ran into an old co-worker at King Bee and her brother and friend decided they wanted to play pool at Dozen Street. This was a great time for me to go back because they finally go their liquor license stuff squared away. People were walking around with pizza boxes and I figured one of those people that go to bars was just selling boxes of pizza for 5 bucks. I see a food truck outside, but it was raining. Never seen it before, all black with what appeared to be chalk on the outside. The rain subsided and I wanted to peak my curiosity. The guy looked a little flustered and it appeared that his credit card machine was down. He was still gracious and told me that they made pizza. I said that was cool and walked away. I came back 45 minutes later assuming the machine was working and said do you have anything ready made. He mentioned the Margherita pizza was ready and what do I want on it? i said I dunno, what do you recommend? Bacon. Why not. 5 minutes later he gives me this pizza and heaven on earth. Mind you, I was drinking so I had to really chill out to make sure that this was not just good because I was drunk and moreso because it was actually good. Sat down. Dough was even and crisp, but i just fell in love with the salt. It was one of the weirdest food moments I ever had. The bacon gave these beautiful salty notes. I wanted to cry because salt is such a pain. You either undersold or oversold it, but this was just so perfect. The ingredients were amazing and if you live on the east side you need to get your pies here. I would say that if I wanted a nice pie on the east side. It would be King Bee and East Side Pies, but this place has taken the cake to replace ESP. I ordered a whole pie and was so excited. Pepperoni, but the truck got rained in. They returned my money and were awesome. I will be back and this is definitely off the beaten path, so check it out. Looks like East 12th is about to be popping off.

So let’s say you’re at Dozen Street Bar, because you’ve just«discovered» it. And you should be there(see my review). But one of the best reasons to be there is this amazing food truck. Out back, on the patio. How Austintatious can it get. The Unconventional Oven has absolutely divine thin crust pizza pies. And I mean great. This is due to the HOT(and I mean HOT) fired oven that makes their crust that perfect crispy/chewy consistency. Their ingredients are classic, fresh, gourmet, and eclectic — they span the range for any taste. I had the brisket pizza along with a more classic combo. Yes, you read this right: Brisket pizza. Absolutely fantastic. Rotating menu of creative pies and slices, or order your own concoction. But think of the practicality: You’re at a bar, jamming to a live band, sipping a craft cocktail, getting buzzed. Need some food. Must find a food truck. Wait – the Unconventional Oven has found you!!! They are cool cats as well who labor in the HOT truck to make your awesome food. So it’s nice to support someone passionate about their product who’s also very nice.
