Ted’s Trees, LTD. Is a family owned business that was established in 1991. Still

family owned and operated Ted’s Trees has become one of the largest nurseries in

Austin, Texas, just 2 miles east of downtown. Ted along with his terrific staff have

continued to beautify the Austin and surrounding cities. Our projects include but

are not limited to Public Works such as Schools, Libraries, Highways, etc. but

extend to other branches such as Banks, Churches, Restaurants and the list goes

on. Although we started as a wholesaler to landscapers we opened our doors to

the general public years ago.

Raising from 3 stars. Ted delivered the new trees to replace the dying Cypresses over 3 months ago, and all is good. We replaced the Cypress with Blue Point Juniper (15 Gallon) and Texas Redbud, and have had no issues with any of the trees. They are thriving and healthy. The only reason this isn’t a 5 star rating is because there has been no followup from Ted or his crew since they replanted. A phone call or email would have been nice, given the amount of trouble we had when dealing with Ted initially. Anyway, we are satisfied with the service at this point.

I bought 3 wax myrtles and one white oak, none of these were cheap. Two years later, water, care and fertilizer as I have done other trees that are healthy. 2 of the 3 wax myrtles are dead and the white oak is leaning to the point it is being removed and another tree planted in its place. I called for help and was told I was out of luck as they were out of warranty. I didn’t expect them to replace the tree but did expect customer services. I would not recommend as they do not back up what they sell and their good customer services expires with their warranty. Glad we learned how they were before we had them landscape our other properties.

Great place to get trees!
We bought a palm from Ted’s trees and will get more in the near future. Their prices are great, they offer a one year warranty and they are very flexible with deliveries. They carry a good selection and the staff was very knowledgeable on their inventory. They are not the cheapest place in town, but the warranty and responsive service sold us.
We also asked them for quote for xeriscaping and Ted himself came out to have a look. We are still debating different options and I will update this review if accept their offer.

Never showed up to scheduled appointment, didn’t answer calls, never followed-​up with explanation — WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.
Visited Ted’s Trees and met with Ted himself looking to renovate and landscape our entire property, picked out some trees from his lot and we scheduled a time for him to come look at the our property in Austin the following Thursday.
I emailed on Monday, he called me back that afternoon and confirmed the time and address for Thursday. I took the afternoon off from the office and waited, when he didn’t show up I tried his cell phone which went straight to voicemail on several attempts. Called his office and they said they’d «try to reach him another way», called me back and told me not to keep waiting. I’m especially irritated that I never received any sort of explanation. Really wasted my time and of course I never got to move forward with the trees I had selected — looking elsewhere.

We had our landscaping done with Ted’s Trees, by Ted himself, and I couldn’t have been happier with the process or outcome of the project. The office staff is great. It’s really nice that a human always answers the phone during business hours. They didn’t always have an answer to questions but, it didn’t take long for them to find out and call me back. They kept the ball rolling for sure.
Ted himself is very enjoyable. Fun, knowledgable and has a great vision for landscaping. We told him what we wanted and went beyond our expectations with so many great ideas and suggestions.
We had a huge retaining wall installed along with the landscaping. Also, a beautiful patio/​pergola with a fire pit. And they did it all with in a week! It was very comforting that the owner of the company (Ted) was onsite every so often checking on things and keeping our project on track.

He texted me the following, verbatim, when I got upset with him about his last-​second cancelation. «You are definately someone I would not want to work for. People like you make this world a grim place.» What???

I’ve worked with Ted’s Trees for many years and have never been let down. We needed a six year old bottlebrush moved because we were putting in a pool. Not only was it moved with care a year later it is doing amazing and the bottlebrush we purchased to match is also doing great. The entire office staff which is mother/​daughter are so professional and will get your questions answered asap. We have also had them do a patio, landscaping in the front yard and fix a poorly installed sprinkler system. I love that their trees are high quality and you get what you pay for. This was an investment for our home and we couldn’t be happier.

In fall of 2013 Ted Senior help us to pick out and purchase a 27′ tall Burr Oak Tree. Ted’s crews came to our home in brentwood and planted our new Burr Oak. It was a difficult and challenging install, they made it happen. They were pleasant to work with and did a great job. This spring our Burr Oak has leafed out. I am a satisfied customer. Thank you to all the people at teds trees.

I needed to have my lawn front and back garden landscaped. I had native plants that were overgrown, including yuccas that were falling over and baby crêpe myrtle trees trying to grow next to the mama. I also had century plants that were trying to take over. I called Ted’s Trees and spoke with April. She was very communicative and helpful. Ted came out that Saturday to give me an estimate, and the work was done that week. The fixed my irrigation system, cut back all my plants, moved and staked my yuccas, removed my century plants and overall did a fantastic job. I was very pleased. It was not cheap, but the work is quality.
I rated only 4 stars because Ted was supposed to come out and give me a second estimate on my backyard. I waited and when he didn’t show, called the office. April was not there, instead someone else who sounded as if I was putting him out by calling. This call lacked communication and followup. Ted finally arrived 1.5 hours post original time.
I would recommend this company for your landscaping needs. They do fabulous work. Ted seems to know his stuff and is willing to share information.

Beware: he sells trees that are not suitable for the Central Texas/​Austin area. Bought an 8′ tall Bottlebrush and put it in a location where privacy was needed immediately. I was told it would be fine here during our Winters. Completely froze and $ 175 went out the door. When I called Ted’s and kindly asked for a replacement, I was denied. I purchase a TON of plants and so it’s a shame. I did not ask for a refund, merely a swap. I suggested that he inform people from that point on. I would have wrapped it and put Christmas Lights on, had I known. Lesson learned — - steer clear!

When I’m serious about MATURE trees, I go to Ted’s. Not only are the trees healthy and vibrant, but the aftercare is awesome. A guy actually came out to look at my trees 6 months AFTER purchase! Visit Ted’s when you need screens or beautiful trees.

I went to Ted’s to find some native or semi-​native plants for my front flower bed, and I was pleasantly surprised with the selection and price. I had putting off this task until my dad came to visit for his manual labor, because he owed me for my manual labor as a child. The man who helped us– we shall call him Ted, was very knowledgeable about what types of plants would work for my situation. Ted didn’t pressure us, just gave his two sense when asked. In turn I now have the best yard on the block– well sort of. Prices were reasonable for smaller shrubs 10 gallon bucket $ 18 and 5 gallon were $ 8– I think (I didn’t foot the bill). Prices comparable to Home Depot. I would recommend this place. And I still love East Austin!

I called Ted’s Trees earlier this summer to ask them to come to my house and remove a dead maple tree. The man said he would show up at 4:30 the next day. He never came.
Then, in August, I went to Ted’s Trees to ask about a certain sort of Oak that I want to replace the dead tree that they never came to remove. (I have since removed the tree myself.). The same man said they did not have that oak, but I should come back during the second week in October to buy it. I even asked at that time if I could order the tree, so he could have it for me – and I could buy the bloody tree! He said he would have plenty, so I should just come back.
So, I did. Guess what? They were sold out.
I’m done with Ted’s Trees.

I bought a Live Oak and a Mountain Laurel here a little over two years ago because there were no trees in the front yard when I bought my house. And they’re both still very alive! (I watered them religiously the first year and then kind of slacked.)
I was a little disappointed that part of the Mountain Laurel had split off shortly after it was planted — instead of replacing it, as I’d requested, they only propped it back up and secured it with wire. I was afraid to remove the wire for the longest time, but one day, I finally did and it’s strong as ever.
Even if you don’t want to buy a tree, there are plenty of plants to choose from, and it’s a really nice oasis in East Austin — to my knowledge, it’s the largest nursery in Austin.
By the way, prepare to spend anywhere from $ 600-​$ 1000 on a 7+ tall Live Oak, but know that you’re planting a tree that might outlive your grandchildren.
