Specialties

We offer dance classes to all ages 2 and up and to all levels of training, beginning through pre-​professional. We specialize in Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, Ballet and Pointe and offer specialty dance classes in Modern, African and Dance Team. We offer private and semi-​private instruction and choreography for special events and competitions.

History

Established in 1995.

Originally Joyce Willet School of Dance, Synergy Dance Studio is now run by Sherrie Sellers. Sherrie began her own dance training at the age of four and has been teaching dance for over 20 years.

Our studios offer suspended hard wood floors to help prevent injury, wall to wall mirrors and observation windows. Our classes are limited in size and are grouped by age and ability. Our focus is on promoting self-​discipline, self-​respect and most importantly self-​confidence.

We encourage you to stop by to see our facilities and meet the staff. We are located in Bee Cave Center, 3425 Bee Cave Rd, in Westlake, Texas (in Bee Cave Center behind Metamorphosis Hair Salon, next door to Thai Kitchen). Westlake Hills is a suburb of Austin, just to the west of downtown.

Synergy Dance Studio offers some of the best instructional dance classes for Austin dance students and we hope you will join us!

Meet the Business Owner

Sherrie S.

Business Owner

Sherrie Sellers is the owner and artistic director of Synergy Dance Studio. She began her own dance training at the age of four at the Academy of Dance Arts in Greenville, Texas and subsequently became a member of the prestigious and nationally ranked Northeast Texas Dance Company. She has been teaching dancers for 17 years and has an extensive knowledge of ballet, tap, jazz, pointe, hip hop, drill team, and cheer. In addition, she graduated from East Texas State University with a degree in Mathematics and went on to teach in the public school system for 9 years. She is a certified NCA Cheer Instructor and coached a varsity level team for three years. Her past experiences as a teacher both inside the schoolroom and the dance studio drive her to be a leading dance educator.

I can’t say enough great things about this studio. We have been at Synergy for years and the director and teachers have been instrumental in not just fostering a love of dance in my daughter, but also a strong understanding of appropriate behavior, attire, and attitude. I had no idea when we started Synergy that we would still be there eight years later, albeit with a much, much better dancer :) But I am so glad we did.

I currently have 3 daughters enrolled in classes at Synergy. They have been there for 10, 6 and 4 years and they have enjoyed each and every year. The studio is very well run and the instructors are very professional, qualified, and excellent at what they do. The focus is on nurturing the love for dance while learning correct dance skills and technique.
My oldest daughter is also a competitive gymnast and Ms. Sherrie has been extremely flexible and supportive throughout the years. She has offered private lessons and make-​ups for my daughter whenever she has had to miss rehearsals or important classes due to her gym meets. Ms. Sherrie has even gone to one of my daughter’s meets to cheer her on!
My second daughter has cerebral palsy and all of her teachers have been kind, compassionate and generous with her. They have encouraged her and focused on what she can do and not what she can’t do. They have made her feel loved and important and every year she asks me to take dance again.
Needless to say, our family loves Synergy and all of the staff. Two enthusiastic thumbs up for sure!

My daughter has been dancing at Synergy Dance Studio for 8 years. Synergy not only offers great dance training but the teachers are really interested in developing the whole person.
I could go on and on. But, maybe I should just say that most of our family, friends and neighbors who have girls have tried Synergy at some point. All of them have really enjoyed Synergy. I couldn’t recommend the studio more!

My daughter has been dancing at Synergy for 3 years now. She loves it and I can see the improvement. She has also danced at the Summer Camp, and LOVES them. They are her favorite camp of the summer. We have had different teachers through the years and have been happy with them. The location is also very convenient for our family and schedule.

We were fairly happy with my daughter’s class until just recently and with the current situation, I will mention other disappointments. Our daughters teacher was ALWAYS at least 10 minutes late and then took about 10 minutes getting music, props, lighting etc ready so the 60 minute classes always ended up being about 40 min max in length. Classes were frequently run by subs and on occasion cancelled due to car trouble, sickness, etc. Our daughter performed in her first recital last year and had a ball.(at another dance school) Upon receiving an email asking parents of the Saturday class if attending a Thursday dress rehearsal was possible, assuming that most of us had chosen this day due to work schedules. I responded that we were not able to attend because of being out of town for a family illness-​I guess having a father with leukemia newly diagnosed this year was not a valid reason to miss this very important dress rehearsal. We were informed that the dress rehearsal for my 3 year old daughter’s class was mandatory-​ridiculous. So after almost a year of my daugther attending her classes, she will be unable to perform in the dance recital because of us missing the dress rehearsal. I contacted the director and wastold that she must stand true to this policy-​CRAZY. A wake up call for this so-​called dance academy-​these are 3 year old girls who are dancing in these Saturday morning classes for FUN, not to put on a skilled performance. Parents, do yourself and your child a favor and choose another more appropriate dance school, like Alisas or Tarrytown Dance that appreciates that for a child of this age, dance is all about having fun, coordination skills, socialization with same aged peers, etc.
A side note, the facility is small, the waiting room is not large enough for parents to observe, the builidng/​dance rooms are poorly maintained, and the bathrooms are filthy.
