Super 8 Austin Airport, South

They’re so great! Sweet staff and such an at-​home feel! I definitely recommend staying here!
When I hear «Super 8,» I think of a cheap motel, but this place was such a comfy, nice and safe place!
It’s also conveniently located.

My experience started with my call from the airport for pickup and getting the 3^rd degree with attitude for name telephone number to verify if I was staying at the hotel. When I got to the hotel and asked about food options I was told there was only fast food. When I asked if the van could drop me off at a restaurant 3 miles away, I was told no and to call a cab.
Maybe I was expecting too much for a $ 135 room on a Saturday night from a hotel that was not very busy.
The room was ok. The bathtub drain stopper got stuck when taking a shower.
Wyndham needs better train personnel and they need to upgrade the physical plant .
My advice is go to a different airport hotel. There are some good one here in Austin.

I just returned from a 9 night stay at this hotel. Would I stay here again? Only if it was for a much shorter stay and for a much cheaper price. We paid more than $ 200 a night and when we pay that much, we expect a better experience.
I checked in and was given keys to my room on the third floor. When I entered the room, I immediately thought the window was open because the sound of the highway in the distance was so loud. I opened the curtains to look at the window and couldn’t believe that the window was shut. I’ve never experienced a window with so little sound insulation in my life. I thought that maybe since it was around 6pm, I was hearing rush hour traffic and it would get better so I didn’t say anything or asked to be switched to a different room because I had some meetings to get to that night.
I got back to the room around 10pm and it was almost impossible to sleep with the traffic noise. Whenever I did fall asleep, I kept getting woken up by revving engines, etc.
After two nights of that, I asked if I could be moved to a different room. I was told that they were booked but they might be able to switch me the next day. It was two days later, after much explaining to the woman at the front desk, that I was finally able to switch rooms. I had four nights of interrupted sleep due to traffic noise.
The new room was much quieter as far as traffic is concerned. However, the thermostat was missing the heat option. You could raise or lower the temperature on the digital thermostat on the wall, but there was no way to turn heat on if the room was cold other than to wait for it to eventually warm up on it’s own. There was no problem cooling it down with the A/​C option.
In the bathroom, the shower lever/​control was upside down for the first two days that I stayed there and then it must have gotten fixed by maintenance because then suddenly it was installed correctly.
Also, when I checked into the room, there was a door guard on the door and also a dead bolt near the handle. The dead bolt did not work. No matter how you pushed or pulled the door, you could not turn the dead bolt so that it would latch into the door frame like it should have. The door still locked, but the deadbolt didn’t work. After several days in this room, I came back to find that the door guard had been replaced with a privacy door latch but the deadbolt still didn’t work.
It was a little unsettling to have both of these improvements done while I was staying there, especially without any indication or notification. It makes you kind of wonder… what’s going on in this room when I’m not here?
Both of the rooms were dark with dark fabrics and draperies. Kind of depressing. Not light, bright, or cheery.
The breakfast consisted of two types of dry cereal, make your own waffles, powdered eggs, greasy sausage links, paper thin bacon slices, sweetened instant oatmeal, toast, danishes, orange juice, apple juice, coffee, espresso, tea, sweetened yogurt, small cups of canned peaces, milk, apples. Not exactly a healthy start for the day. It would have been nice if there were at least some packets of plain unsweetened oatmeal and plain yogurt or a few other varieties of fresh fruit.
Neither of the rooms had decent shower water pressure. That might be okay if you’re a girl or guy with short hair, but if you have long hair or thick hair, that means your shower takes two or three times longer than it should if you want to rinse shampoo and conditioner out of it. It was almost as bad as standing under a trickling faucet. It was miserable.
The pluses were that it was conveniently located to downtown, there were restaurants, shops, and gas stations nearby, and there was always parking even if you returned to the hotel at a very late hour.

Next time I need a motel in Austin would go way out of the way to stay here again! This place is so convenient and adorable.

I love this place! I’ve stayed at many hotels and motels before but none like this. The rooms are so comfortable and they are filled with goodies, like a gift basket of food and water, and a teddy bear! I have five teddy bears from each time I’ve stayed at Super 8. I’ve stayed in the two queen bed room, the one king bed room, and the king bed jacuzzi suite. I recomend the jacuzzi suite for anyone. The jacuzzi is amazing and to die for, and if you have company for that room it makes it all the more pleasurable. Not to mention you wake to a free warm breakfast and nice employee goodmornings! :)

For the price, you can’t beat this place. not as nice as a more expensive hotel, but the details are outstanding. 4 different pillow styles to choose from, a gift basket with pretzels, water bottle, and crackers, a dirty clothes basket, the list goes on. For a super 8 I’m mega impressed. I’ll be staying here again, as business takes me to this side of town often.

We didn’t want to be too far from 6^th Street but also didn’t feel like shelling out an arm and a leg. I’ve never stayed in a Super 8 in my life and though I was skeptical, I relied on my trusty fellow Unilocalers and I’m glad I did! The bed was so comfortable and the place seems pretty modern. The breakfast was meh, but I suppose you can’t really complain about free waffles that come in the shape of Texas! Other than that, I was pretty blown away. It’s no resort but it sure gets the job done.

Doesn’t match my stereotype for «Super 8». Free DVD and book loans in the lobby, super-​hip furniture, extensive vanity supplies (and the auspicious «Did you forget anything? Just let us know» placard), and even some modest snacks in the room.

For a Super 8, this place is great.
For a motel at 100 bucks a night, it is just fine. The bed and pillows were very comfortable, which is the most important part of a hotel room. Things were clean and maintained.
The breakfast was kind of sad, but did the job. I had some issues w. the the internet one evening (even when plugged in directly). The flat screens in the elevator seemed unnecessary (and at points had weird religious messages that I could have done without). Staff was friendly but did not go out of their way for me. The walls were a little thin too, I could hear other guests in the hallways or vaccuming going on throughout the day.
They do pick you up at the airport and take you back for free, which is great, although I’m not really sure what you are doing at this hotel if you don’t have a car, as it is really out of the way. The only thing in walking distance are fast food and gas stations. A cab from Barton Springs cost $ 25 and taking a bus downtown on a weekend took about an hour.
The extra touches of books and dvds are really nice, but I guess I’m just not sure who the target audience for this place is. But for what it is, it is good, so this is not a detrimental 3 star rating.

This was the first major let down I’ve had from fellow Unilocalers. I would never ever recommend staying here. We stayed 2 nights & left early because I couldn’t bare to stay here one more second. Here’s why.
1. Not clean — short, dark curly hairs of the chest or leg hair (or other?! idk) variety in the shower when we got there. Noticed them when using the bathroom for the first time. I don’t think that is acceptable at all in any situation ever. Gross!!! Rusty/​dirty toilet. Dirty carpet. Spots on furniture. Some sort of horrible sweet disgusting stench in the hall leading to our room. I had to hold my nose walking to & from the room. Musty smelling room.
Bonus: no hairs, dirt or bugs in bed linen.
2. Outdated. Plastic light fixtures in bathroom. Junky furniture & decorations.
3. Icky included breakfast. There was make your own waffles which I don’t eat but my husband usually loves. He made them, tried one bite, said it was bad & tossed it. They also have over processed eggs, bacon, & mini sausage on a mini biscuit. It was all imitation food except the fruit bowl with apples.
When I was nonstop complaining to my poor husband about the room & asking how could the people on Unilocal rate it so well & let me down like this he summed it up by saying… Unilocalers are telling you that it’s basically pretty decent for a crap motel. He made me laugh but couldn’t totally repair my relationship yet with you fellow Unilocalers. Only time, some more humor & quality reviews can do that.
To sum up my review… only stay here if you have low expectations. I would tell a friend… Do yourself a favor & go somewhere else. You won’t regret it even if it costs a few more dollars.

The people are nice. The place is clean. In short, everything just goes right.
So where are you? The Hyatt, Wyndham, a little Boutique Hotel?
Nope … you’re at the Super 8 Austin (Airport South).
That’s right … the SUPER 8.
Whatever corporate entity owns/​controls the Super 8 franchising system should hold their next national meeting in Austin and take all franchisees on a mandatory tour of this location. Simply, THIS is how it’s done. I’ve stayed in places three times as expensive and not half as attentive to detail as they are here.
Five Stars are not enough.

We booked here after reading the many favorable reviews on here and other sites, and will gladly add our positive review to the others. This hotel had all of the amenities of much more expensive ones (welcome snack basket in room, free wifi, custom pillow selections, refrigerator, coffeepot, microwave, safe, business desk with monitor and keyboard), but at less than $ 100 it was only a fraction of the price. The exterior, lobby, breakfast area, and rooms were very clean and well kept, and the staff was friendly and efficient. An added bonus is the free breakfast with its variety of hot and cold selections, including make-​your-​own Texas-​shaped waffles. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.

For the amount of money we paid, this was well-​worth it. Friendly staff and actually cleaner than the Marriott courtyard I stayed at. There were even complimentary snacks ready for you in your room. Flat screens were just installed this weekend. Coupled with 21 jump street, best bedtime movie ever. «EH, EH. Korean Jesus ain’t got time fo yo problems. He bizay!»

If you are looking for a traditional $ 50 or less motel, this is not it. This place is more like a budget priced hotel at $ 100 a night.
The exception is, is this motel is easily nicer than most budget Hotels. It was very clean (beds and bathroom), had free wifi, and we just loved it. We had stopped in Austin during our week long road trip from Cali, so when we got here we were eager to pay and crash.
I’m just glad this place gave me my money’s worth.
Bottom line: if you are in Austin for business and aren’t getting reimbursed, or for leisure but don’t want to pay traditional hotel prices I would easily recommend this place.

First off, know that I NEVER stay at motels. I hate to travel and when I do, I try to find the cleanest 4 — 5 star hotel I can afford. But I was on a tight budget and this Super 8 had great reviews, so I took a chance.
Boy am I glad I did. This little motel doesn’t realize that it’s NOT a hotel. (Except for the price. FREE: wi-​fi, cable, newspapers, water/​snacks in the room, parking, Starbuck’s coffee in the breakfast room. therapeutic beds, microwave, fridge, safe in the room, I-​pod docking station, business center, fitness room with sauna…)
The toilet had a «sealed for freshness strip» ensuring that it had been cleaned. The entire bathroom really was clean. The décor was cute. The only signs of age was that the carpet in my room was kinda worn — but you can’t have everything!
Get this — the bed had four different types of pillows so you could choose the one that suits your comfort.
I had a business class suite, so my room came with a laptop and a huge wide screen Plasma TV. (In fact, it was so BIG, that I had to make sure to turn it off when I went to bed, because the light was so bright I couldn’t sleep.)
The staff was SUPER nice. This is where I will stay the next time I’m in Austin!

Stayed at this hotel while in Austin for a few days. I was a little bit skeptical since it was a Super 8, but it got great ratings on
, so we chanced it. Excellent experience, great staff, and so many little things that the owners do to make your stay unique and awesome! Must be family owned or something. From teddy bears on your pillow, the massage chair in the lobby, evening snacks, to cheap DVD and book rental, it was definitely a place that put extra work into making sure you had a memorable stay. Great experience and I will return here EVERY time I come to Austin. A few things to keep in mind:
— parking lot is kinda tiny
— the continental breakfast is a little weak (my real only less than excellent experience here).
Considering that my favorite hotels have always had a fantastic free breakfast, AND that I wasn’t super impressed with this one and that I’m still willing to come back every time I’m here, really says how great my experience was.

Great value! I was in town for a conference and stayed here for three nights. The rooms are tastefully done. I stayed in a King Suite which had a small fridge, microwave, safe, and modern furnishings. I had some colleagues staying downtown who were paying three to four times the rate I was paying here. The hotel in general has a homey feel to it and the folks that work here are super nice and friendly. It is a bit out of the way from downtown, but I was able to rent a car with the money I saved by staying here (10 minute drive to downtown).
Very safe place to stay as you need a key card to enter the hotel.
Loved the free continental breakfast, DVD/​book library, espresso machine!

Recommend the Asian suite.

Perfect for short visits to Austin and location near the airport. It is easy access to downtown and the S. Congress (SoCo) area. This is a very new hotel so don’t be afraid that it is a ‘discount’ chain. I thought the rooms were nicer than some Marriotts I’ve stayed in. Check out is 12, free internet, free cookies after dinner time. I booked through
, and paid a total of $ 82 for one night… this was a king size bed. And OMG, are the beds comfortable!!! They are therapeutic beds, I did not want to get out in the morning. More comfortable than my bed at home!
Jack in the box is within walking distance if you are having a lazy, don’t want to go anywhere kind of day.
I would recommend, and I will definitely stay again!

We booked our stay here based on TripAdvisor’s raving reviews. And yes, we were definitely skeptical seeing as though it’s a Super 8.
However, if you want rebranding at its finest, these guys know exactly how to do it. The place was great! Super friendly staff (it’s a family owned place), airy/​bright lobby (they even have a massage chair), DVDs to borrow, free hot breakfast, very clean and modern rooms, free wifi, a shuttle from/​to the airport… oh yes the free cookies or chocolate cake in the afternoon was a great plus too, with free coffee. They even had a welcome basket in the room with a free bottled water and snacks, which were GREAT when we arrived late the first night. They also have a water dispensing thing in the lobby and we filled our water bottles there instead of buying a new bottle — hooray for green!
The staff even let me borrow their scissors and packing tape, no huffs or puffs. Actually it was with a big smile. Amazing.
At around $ 100/​night for a Super 8, it’s a little on the high side, and it didn’t help that we were there during UT’s graduation weekend.
