Sun & Fun Watercraft Rentals

These guys are total FRAUDS! They will claim you damaged their 7 year old boat and charge you ridiculous charges that did not happen. They fraudulently signed a credit card receipt and they ask you to sign a blank credit card receipt even before you go boating. We have filed a criminal fraud charge against them with the City of Austin. Like others say «stay away from them!!!»

I was a little hesitant to book a reservation with this company last weekend after reading the negative reviews. However they were the only company on Lake Austin that offered the type of boat I was looking for that did not require a captain.
I called and spoke with Kendall about the negative reviews and he explained how some of the reviews were posted from previous employees; some from customers not wanting to take responsibility for damages caused to the equipment; some that were meant for another company and a few that were legitimate which is why the previous manager was terminated. Not knowing what to expect I decided to give them a try. To my surprise I give them 5 stars and the reason I am writing this review. I showed up 20 minutes ahead of schedule to take care of the paperwork and was immediately greeted. The boat was exactly what I was looking for. The staff members were nice and polite and answered all my questions. They went over the rules and regulations of the lake, showed me where all the safety equipment was stored, went over the functions of the boat and I was on my way 5 minutes ahead of schedule. The boat was fantastic and everybody on board had a great time. I’m very glad I gave them a chance and will definitely call them again when renting another boat.

These are the worst people in the world. If you rent from them you will have to pay a lot of money in upcharges bc when you try to return it they will literally make up stories about your adventures. DO NOT RENT FROM THEM!!! They said we chipped paint off the prop etc and we just took the boat out as a normal group would.

I’m not actually the type of person to write Unilocal reviews, but I feel obligated in this case to warn people against using this company. The entire experience was not only disappointing, but downright concerning. We booked a boat for a company outing. From the moment we arrived it was sketchy. The boat was still on the trailer in the parking lot, hadn’t been cleaned, and was in pretty rough condition. I was asked to sign extensive liability forms and when I asked if the company had insurance the answer I got was «I don’t know.» The boat was a total «piece» and made a horrible, high pitched ringing sound for 3 hours! The guys later said it was because there was a problem with a thermostat and a piston firing. So, they knew about the problem and rented it anyway. The day was a miserable flop. The guys renting the boat were shady at best. Now, I have been trying for over a month to get a copy of our receipt (as it was a business purchase), to no avail. When they answer the phone they have no record of my name, etc. During my most recent attempt to get a receipt the guy asked «Which boat did you rent?» I replied by saying «The one that made the horrible, high pitched noise for 3 hours.» That jogged his memory and he said, «Oh, yeah. Sorry again about that.» Still no receipt. Don’t be fooled by their website. Anyone can put up a website and look legit. This is a super-​shady operation. The boat was in ill-​repair, there were ZERO life preservers (we can drive a boat and swim but having no life preservers will get you an expensive ticket on Lake Austin), and the service has been atrocious.

First off, I am not one to write negative reviews and I always give businesses the benefit of the doubt when I see a negative comment here and there, however, in this case, I am trying to help you (the customer) not make the same mistake we did by using this boat rental company. DO NOT RENT from Sun & Fun. Multiple issues with them & their service demonstrated true unprofessionalism and immaturity. First, they post online that their rental fee is a certain amount per hour and then in another section of thier website, they advise that you have to pay for fuel as well. It is totally false subliminal advertising. The amount rated under the rental boat or waverunner should be the total amount to be paid + tax. That was a nice little surpise on my visa bill. An extra $ 40 for gas for a 2 hr rental. Second, I was under the assumption that we could ride the rental (waverunner) all down Lake Austin. Nope! Only from the damn to the 360 bridge!!! What a joke. That is just a fraction of the lake. They never put that on the website or informed us of that when we booked over the phone. We found this out the day of. If I knew that we would only be able to utilize a small fraction of the lake, I would have never booked it. Lastly, when I called them to discuss the hidden charges of the added fuel costs, I voiced my issue with them not properly advertising it on their website and/​or informing us of it when we booked over the phone. I very calmly and respectfully stated this and I was hung up on! Honestly, I couldn’t believe that. Great professionalism (sarcasm obviously). Also, whenever we rent waverunners, we never get charged for fuel used. It is always in the bottom line pricing, not an extra hidden cost. Needless to say, I would definitely book with another boat rental company.

Had a great experience last year so decided to use them again this year. They were not friendly, poor customer service, and poor management and communication. Only good thing is they are close and easy to use, but they are not consistent and were frustrating to deal with. While they were on time, and answered their phones, I have learned your experience will vary according to who is there that day.

My last experience with Sun & Fun leads me to post a review. I rented a pontoon for an office party. The boat was late arriving. I called Sun & Fun many times with no answer. I finally got them on the phone and they could not tell me what was going on. I got very anxious as I had my entire office standing at the dock waiting. They finally showed up. The boat was soaking wet and the radio and the ipod direct connect were out of service. The rep that brought us the boat was like, oh yeah, sorry these don’t work. Well since we had spent hours on a playlist for our office party this was a major let down. I figured I would call and see about a small discount. I called and they said flat out nope, not their problem that the sound system didn’t work. I pointed out that this was a selling point on thier website. It states «CD Receiver iPod Connection — Bring i-​Pod and Cord». Still the answer was nope. So here is my negative review. There were two other companies that brought pontoon boats to the dock while I waited for my late arrival pontoon with no music. I will give one of them a try next time and skip Sun & Fun.
