Storied Firearms

I have bought probably 6 – 8 firearms from these fine folks and have been incredibly pleased with how they run their business. They will take the time to talk with you whether you are new to firearms or a pro. They carry excellent quality guns and are priced fairly, when I’m looking for a new firearm I go here first and usually find what I’m looking for. I highly recommend Storied Firearms over any place in the surrounding south Austin area.

These folks are top notch. I’ve done a couple of transfers and bought a couple guns from them. Great service and a cool store. I’m born and raised in Austin so I’ve done plenty of business with McBride’s. Storied is much more friendly and relaxed. Give them a try. I give them my highest recommendation.

I have had several Firearms transfers to Storied Firearms. They are incredible to deal with! They know exactly what they are doing and give a whole new meaning to great customer service! I live in Del Valle Tx! There are several closer FFL transfer Dealers! But you get what you pay for! I will never transfer to another FFL ever!

I bought my first firearm there more than a year ago now. I’ve been in a bunch of gun shops now across the country even and didn’t know how good I had it. They were SOOOOOOO helpful. They answered questions I didn’t know to ask. I went in Red’s talked to sales people, total jerks. Academy, they didn’t know much, not a big selection. Cabela’s looong wait to talk to someone, felt really rushed. I was LOOKING for someone to TAKE MY MONEY!!!
Storied Firearms I felt right at home the second I walked in. They showed me the M&P9, M&P9c, M&P Shield, the whole Glock series, Some Walthers, Kahr PM9, P9, Some Sigs, XDs, The whole gamut. Let me hold em. Test triggers. In the end I liked the Glocks «look & feel» the best. Fits my hand fine without digging in when I grip. Doesn’t look like a women’s designer handbag.
I figured out a lot of stuff just from holding guns in my hand. These guys were patient with me. Holding guns is important especially for a first time buyer, but for any buyer to get a sense of how a gun feels. Some shops don’t want to spend time with you even though you’re ready to drop a bunch of cash in their register. I digress.
I don’t like the way M&Ps look, but they feel great in hand. I reeeeally don’t like the way XDs feel in my hand. I couldn’t get over the Walthers trigger guard mag release. I ruled out Sigs only because I did not want a DA/​SA. I liked the Kahr’s.
So I figured out what I thought I wanted, I slept on it for a week. Watched a lot of YouTube videos on it. I went to Red’s Range down the road, got a rental gun and tested the gun I thought I wanted. Figured out that I indeed wanted it. And at the end of that week I spent a nice Saturday afternoon doing a NICS check, forking over some money and walking out a proud gun owner with a nice new firearm.

I went in with the expectation that it would be like any other firearm store. I was wrong. They’re some of the nicest people, and I would recommend this shop to anybody. What I really liked was while they were installing my night sights, they chatted with me and we had some good laughs. I didn’t feel like just a customer. Thanks a bunch guys, and gal.

My favorite gun shop! I’ve bought 4 guns here, 2 rifles and 2 handguns. I liked how they were able to explain the history and origin of the two antique guns I bought. They know a great deal about all the guns in those store, they have an excellent used/​antique inventory, I always see something new and interesting I’d love to have. They’re great at finding you a gun if you know what you’d like, even older guns. My last purchase was a new firearm (it’s only been out for 2 years), they did not have the exact one in stock, but they ordered it for me and I got it very quickly, they made sure it came with the additional magazines and hard case, with all the accessories. I’ve done trade ins here, they will give you a fair offer, just know what your stuff is worth retail and they’ll work with you. I feel like I got a great deal on my trade-​ins, one of which two other stores wouldn’t take (old ammo and magazine, no boxes). Great ammo selection, they usually have the odd ammo I can’t find elsewhere. They’d stand behind everything they sell, new or used. If you tell them you have an issue they will gladly take a look with you and find a solution, whether it’s ordering a new part or fixing one then and there. Go buy some guns from these folks, you won’t regret stopping by!

I highly recommend this shop! By far the most helpful and friendly gun shop I’ve ever done business with. I called looking for a specific gun and I was immediately taken back by how nice the man on the phone was. They offered to order it for me and the process could not have been smoother. I got exactly what I needed. I had a great experience with them and I will be doing more business there.

They had a great selection and the staff was very knowledgeable about their stock and guns in general which is not surprising.

Every thing was display neatly and it was easy to view their inventory in the displays!

Here’s an excerpt from an recent e-​mail from a client of mine (with their permission, of course). I was out of the state supporting a military training event, and the clients (a husband-​wife and their two adult daughters) wanted to purchase their first-​ever handguns for an upcoming private class. We discussed the importance of ensuring the proper ‘fit’ of the grip based on each of their hand sizes, as well as things to look for based on each of their interests (some were interested in competitive shooting sports, some self defense, and some all of the above). These folks came highly recommended from our TX CHL instructor. Cherie and Charlie certainly lived up to that reputation and then some. We were first-​time handgun purchasers, but that was no issue at all. We were comfortable from the minute we stepped into their store — which looks for all the world like a restored old train depot.
My first visit to the store was with my wife and older daughter. Cherie was minding the store. The two ladies have relatively small hands, but Cherie helped them to know what to look for (or feel for) and patiently gave them all the advice, help and time they needed to find pistols that suited them. That included each of them handling, quite literally, every pistol in the display case — and several of them more than once. I believe we were there almost 2 hours. There was no pressure to buy.
I returned a week later with my younger daughter. Charlie gave her a similar great experience, helping her find a pistol that fits her perfectly.
It was a great pleasure dealing with both Cherie and Charlie. We bought handguns for all 4 of us at Storied Firearms. I would (and have) recommended them to my friends, and we’ll be back.

The people are friendly, the prices are better than Cabela’s, but the customer service is pathetic. Absolute the worse I’ve seen. I’ve purchased 3 firearms there over a year and a half. Thought I was a good customer. Last time around, it took me 3 months and repeated emails to get a handwritten one sentence receipt showing my trade-​in and purchase. And, get this, they did it as a favor. I could not get through to them that I should have a receipt showing my handgun trade-​in, as well as proof of purchase for warranty. Think about it. When you sell or trade-​in a handgun, the BATF still shows you as the person possessing it, until (or unless) the dealer reports it to BATF. You need proof that the handgun is no longer yours. Like, in case the law may come knocking on your door if the handgun gets used in a crime and recovered by police.
This document is provided as part of the sale by all other firearms dealers I’ve ever encountered.

Storied Firearms is truly a personal experience and they are very helpful. Anything they don’t know, they’ll find out. My experience with them is in regards to repair of older guns.
I am a person who inherited several rifles and because it’s close I decided to see what they offered. I do know a bit about guns, but from a repair perspective, that’s not me. I took two guns, a Centennial Winchester 1876, and a Remington Model 11 shotgun for them to possibly restore to shooting order. The Winchester was just too far gone for Charlie’ team to repair, but they took on the Model 11.
4 months later, and the Model 11 is not ready yet. They have replaced the forearm and the stock and cleaned it very well, and I hope to have in in my hands this next week.
Overall, if Storied Firearms has this much backlog, they should consider expanding, and if it’s not backlog they should look at prioritizing their orders better. I suggest they do something or they will lose customers.

Their efforts to be the «store without an attitude» work very well. Charlie and Cherie are easy to talk with and are knowledgeable. We’ve traded and purchased a number of handguns from them and their prices are always less than other stores — which is interesting considering they’re literally a mom and pop shop. Yeah, they have a limited selection, but what they have is quality and they’ll steer you in the right direction when making a purchase.
If you want a personal experience with people who get to know you, stop in. It’s way better and less expensive than some of the other shops and especially the bigger stores. For example, their prices on Glock Gen 4s are $ 40 less than Cabela’s and their ammo prices are just as competitive.

Just purchased a gun from Storied Firearms and I left feeling great about my experience. They were knowledgeable, helpful, resourceful, and best of all they didn’t make us feel stupid just because we aren’t «gun people». We were in and out in less than 30 minutes. We will definitely go back for any future purchases or information!
On a side note: My Dad took his CHL class with their guy and had nothing but good things to say. The guy that does the class also does individual lessons.

Fair retail prices. Limited selection. Buy offers are worse than most pawnbrokers I know. If I were looking to sell, I’d go to a pawnshop or gun show before I bothered talking to Charlie after I talked to almost every other gun shop in 100 mile vicinity.
If I were to guess, he’s making a killing off of the firearms of deceased relations who know nothing about guns. Doesn’t seem to know his guns very well and had to keep referring to books before offering 10 cents on the dollar.

I just visited this business for the first time yesterday (June 2, 2011). The owners are very nice. They are knowledgable about firearms and are clearly in business to help customers. If you have visited other gun shops in the Austin area, you’ll really like this place. Unlike those other shops, Storied is a place where their mission is to help you find the right firearm for you. I frequently analyze businesses and their owners for my company (it’s part of my job). Based on my visit to Storied, I put them in the top 10% of all businesses that I’ve seen. They know what they are talking about, they don’t blow smoke, they focus on helping the customer and their first priority is making sure the customer’s needs are understood and exceeded.
In my case, my hands are much larger than average. This presents a challenge. No other gun shop has done as much for me as Storied. Instead of just trying to sell me something, or tell me that my large hands are my problem (like the other shops try to do), Charlie and Cherie Harris really took their time (about 90 minutes), to find some guns that fit me very well.
Anyway, I’m now off to LoneStar gun range to try out some rental guns for fit and control. Then, I’ll be going back to Storied to buy the style/​model that I like best. I’m also bringing in my rifle for some gunsmith work. Will post a rating on that after I get it back.
