Kyle at StarTech PC Repair fixed me up with a like-​new MacBook Air screen for $ 150 less than I was quoted by (several) Mac repair folks. They were friendly, honest, put forth a lot of effort to find a difficult part at cost, and almost certainly ended up putting more labor in than they charged me for. I’ll be back for more repairs from these totally solid guys!

I see a lot of low ratings here and I don’t understand why. My experience has been nothing but excellent with StarTechPC. I’ve used them for years whenever I’ve had problems with a computer that I could not figure out. It generally takes 2 or 3 days from the time that I drop off the computer until the time that its ready to pick up. The guys there are super nice and competent. I never feel like they’re trying to sell me anything that I don’t need. I will continue to use them and recommend them to my friends who need computer repairs.

5 stars to 2 star. Let me tell you why.
It’s true that they gave Joel W. a pretty good hook up on a new computer when his old one died and he was hundreds of dollars into it with the repairs. For that, I’ll give them 1 extra star our other experiences didn’t warrant. They didn’t have to do that, and that was nice.
However, the thing is a freaking lemon. They gave us a 1 year warranty on it and we’ve been back THREE TIMES because, due to various reasons, the system has become inoperable. Unless you’re in the situation we were in, I would NEVER buy anything from them again.
Also, while I was willing to give them a little leeway on the service times — the last time we brought the computer in, it took almost a MONTH for them to fix it. They didn’t even crack it open for 2 weeks. They would say they would call, and they wouldn’t. We got to the point that we would stop by there on the way home from work every day so they couldn’t avoid us.
They made excuses on being understaffed and other blah blah blah, but that gets me through about a week. Maybe 2. Not a month.
It’s a shame, because I loved Game Gods, I would take EVERYTHING there to be fixed, they were awesome — now that this is where they send us for PC stuff, I’ll have to take my business elsewhere.
Just don’t. Go somewhere else if you want something fixed in a timely manner, or done right the first time, or you want someone that will actually return your calls and communicate timelines.

This place is a total waste of time and money. They deserve ZERO Stars!!! These are total scam artist. They will take your computer, hold on to it for days, then when you come pick it up, they will have added all sorts of extra charges that you never agreed to pay. If you refuse the repairs, then forget about ever getting your computer back. You are pretty much out of luck. There is absolutely no one in the store that knows the meaning of the word customer service. If you want to truly repair your computer then go somewhere else. If you want to waste your time and money AND end up with a computer that is in worse shape than it started out, then these are your guys. Heed this warning. When you walk thru this door you are walking straight into a scam!!!

I love this place. They are stars to me anyway. I spilled hot tea on my laptop and they had to replace the motherboard, the price was reasonable and fair and only took a week or two. then my husband stepped on my laptop and broke the screen, they fixed it, it was not under warranty — it’s a lenovo X1 Carbon. they got the replacement part and again fixed it in a good time. they were honest and I would use them again.

I had a problem with my hard drive. The owner promised me that they will solve the problem, that I don’t need to worry and that will give me a call by tomorrow.
But… They didn’t call, I was need to follow up with them at least 3 times and my laptop came back with an additional problem that it restarted itself every 10 seconds (problem that was not exist before…).
I paid for the diagnostics which worth nothing…

Don’t ever, ever, ever go here. When you walk in the door and see the entire store disorganized, dirty and shady. You will ask your self, this does not look right. It is not. I took my computer to get a new screen, EVERYTHING ELSE worked fine. I got it back FOUR MONTHS later. They lost my hard drive and said the mother board had crashed. The owner James was clueless, cold and rude. When I tried to talk with him about the issue he just wanted to talk with me about all the business he was buying. The so called «work» comes with a 30 day warranty, but if they never, wont fix anything who cares if it comes with a 30 day warranty. When the owner has not idea what is going on, how can you think any one else will care their.
Over the four months I stopped in the store 4 times and called 10 – 12 times. No one would call me back to up-​date me.
When it was all done, I had to fight just to get my money back. James wanted to give me a store credit. AKA after four months he thought my time and computer where not worth anything to him.
Bottom line it was like I took my car in with a flat tire, but everything was running fine — to four months later my engine was blown and my transmission was out, oh and by the way they did not fix my screen either.
DONT GO HERE, turn around and walk out. When you walk in the door listen to that voice in your head saying this place looks shady. Because it is.

I was lucky enough to live down the street from StarTechPC … I’ve been using them for over a year and have had nothing but excellent service… Prices are always very fair and very upfront… I have an older laptop that they recommended to go ahead and repair it… it works like it is brand-​new again and they save me hundreds of dollars on holding off of purchasing a new laptop. they cleaned the components and checked my software and it works perfect now. they saved me hundreds of dollars… that means so much to me! Thank you!

If ever there was a need for ZERO stars, it would be this place! My hard drive kept overheating so I called them because I’d met the owner who said they were faster and less expensive than other places. I was leaving for vacation in a few days so the «fast» part sounded perfect! My computer was dropped off by my fiancée mid day on a Wednesday and I heard absolutely NOTHING from them. At around 10 a.m. the next day, I literally had my phone in my hand to call and tell them not to even bother when they called to say I needed a new hard drive. They could install a new one and transfer all of the data for around $ 300. I SHOULD HAVE JUST SAID NO THANKS AND BOUGHT A NEW COMPUTER but I didn’t because I thought it would be easier than starting over. They did not tell me that I was going to have to re-​install every program, driver, etc… I told them I needed my computer back by 3 since they’d already had it since the previous day. No problem they said.
When my fiancée got there, guess what — they hadn’t transferred anything, but they sent him home with an external drive and emailed me «easy instructions» to do the transfer myself. This did not work. So, I had to wait a week and a half until I got back (and borrow a computer for my trip). I gave the computer to the owner at 9 a.m. on Tuesday. I NEVER heard from him again that whole day. It wasn’t until almost 6 p.m. the NEXT day that he called! It took them 2 whole days to do the transfer, but I was jut going to easily do it myself at home in a few hours (after paying them almost $ 300!!).
Throughout this whole process, the owner KEEPS blaming my fiancée for coming to pick it up. HELLO! If you had told him what was involved, he would have left it there. I mean he literally blamed it on my fiancée at least a dozen times over the 4 times I talked to him throughout the process of getting it in there and out again. Now I have it back and have spent COUNTLESS hours re-​installing programs. I still can’t even get iTunes because whatever they did to my computer, I no longer have administrative privileges. Oh, and he also didn’t warn me that I’d need my Microsoft Office code to reinstall that. I DON’T have it!!! Had he told me this up front, I would definitely gotten new computer.
Horrendous customer service, terrible communication, and shoddy repair work. CALL ANYONE BUT THEM TO «FIX» YOUR COMPUTER!
Oh yeah, almost forgot, they didn’t give me back my power cord. When I called about it, he said, «Oh, YOU didn’t take your cord, I guess we can get you a cord.» SO RUDE!!! And it wasn’t my cord I got back.

They lost the side panel to my computer! need a say more they then put my computer in a completely different case !! I’m not very tech oriented so for all I know its not even the same computer at all! never go to these stone bag idiots. they share a building with a spy store lol im idiot for going here even!

DONT TAKE YOUR PC THERE FOR REPAIR. I took my DELL PC in for repair. They seemed to be only repair shop open on Saturday and that was my lure. My DELL PC had never been in for repair and that Saturday it wouldn’t start. I took in on a Saturday and it took 5 days to come out of the shop. They said it was the power supply. The power supply is loud and probably cheap. It was when I bought a new printer a few days after the PC was out of the shop that I realized that my DVD drive was missing and that my other driver a DVD RW was not working. I took it back in and they said the DVD RW needed to be replaced and that well the computer never had another DVD drive. Basically it was all my issue. They were $$happy$$ to repair my DVD RW — but I don’t trust them and now I have computer issues. I failed to read Unilocal prior to going. DONT take your PC there.

I have been to this location twice — several years apart. My first time there was about eight or nine years ago and the experience was not favorable. I went in for a quote on a broken laptop and was told $ 20. It was barely two years old. Didn’t sell it.
Fast forward to yesterday. My boyfriend wanted to sell his 2010 laptop that has a broken power cable but still works perfectly fine otherwise — no issues.
We called the store to see if they’d give a quote over the phone — they wouldn’t — so we made the trip down there.
They guy takes a look at it then says he can’t take it because the power cable is «connected to the motherboard» and offered us $ 5.00
For a 2010 laptop? He said all they would do is cannibalize it for parts because its «too old» to order parts for. (2010?! It’s barely 2013 right now.). He then said that then only thing they’d be able to use is the glass and with that he jumped to $ 20.00 from the $ 5.00 he offered less than two minutes ago.
What’s funny is they have the same model on their shelf for sale at $ 549.00 but they are offering $ 5 — $ 20 to buy it? The computer is worth a minimum of $ 300 online.
My boyfriend was just going to accept the offer but I have him «the look» and walked out of the store. He came out shortly thereafter with the computer in hand.
We came home and Googled the part that needs to be replaced and guess what…
It costs $ 8.00 (online so is likely cheaper for a computer «repair» business) and its NOT soldered to the motherboard. The computer doesn’t have to be replaced and is NOT too old to order parts for.
Never accept the first offer and call them out on their shady practice. You will get ripped off otherwise.

I would give this place a ¹⁄₈ of a star.
Too many complaints to talk about. But here is a couple. Walk in and see all the parts that they rip out of device and resell when they are supposed to be bad. No refunds policy no matter what. Wonder why. Tell ya because they wouldn’t make a dime then.
I’ve brought and family. Friends numerous devices into this shop off Burnet all around the same time. All devices became unrepairable and was told it was the devices fault. I guess if you bring a BMW into a repair shop and they change your oil. When you pick it up if the tires are
Flat, engine is blown, tranny is in the back seat, and it now smells of beer/​dirty mechanics its the cars fault. And sorry no refunds but I trade you up to a nice Pinto or Gremlin.

Great service from Sam the store manager. Over the years I have had several PC problems, hard drives, software and they alway do a great job getting me back up and running.

Stopped off here Tuesday with Mom’s broken laptop. The guy behind the counter acted disgusted that I came in. He then didn’t even try to guess what was wrong with the computer, telling me that he wouldn’t know anything until he ran diagnostics. He then proceeded to tell me that I shouldn’t expect any word until the next afternoon since I didn’t come in until 4 PM.
After reading the other reviews on here, I’m glad I didn’t leave the laptop here.

I have had nothing but positive experience with this company. I willingly drive past other repair services to bring my computers here. Both times I have been here my computers came out not as good as new but even better than new if that is possible.
One small caveat, they overlooked testing my cd/​dvd drive even though i had reported it not working correctly necessitating an immediate return trip back in rush hour traffic but they corrected the problem on the spot. This cost them a star in my rating.
I still highly recommend these people and can vouch for the fact that if they can’t fix it they will buy it.

I was a bit of a computer geek back in the day, and I took my desktop here, when I still used one, because I thought they might do a better job than me. Read that as, I thought I was taking my PC to someone VERY skilled at repair/​troubleshooting. However, I found the opposite to be true. The guy that attempted to help me out seemed retarded. No people skills, and no skills with PC hardware. This guy didn’t take any precaution against Electrostatic Discharge. And if I recall, he actually worked on my PC on the floor when there was ample table space. Also, while swapping out a video card (or other PCI) for a known working one, he handled both mine and the test card very clumsily. That is, he grabbed the circuit board directly (which risks damaging the Integrated Circuits) instead of grabbing them by the metal bracket. Overall, my PC came away worse than the condition I brought it.
I doubt much has changed since then, that is, they still probably hire idiots like this. They probably don’t even realize why these people are idiots in the first place. The only reason they are still in business is because the average person knows so little about PCs.

Terrible customer relations. The given repair time was exceeded by 3 days and had to show up to the store to talk to someone as they wouldn’t return calls as promised. Not impressed.
