Today’s vehicles are constantly changing and we invest heavily in continuing education for our ASE certified technicians and the most up to date diagnostic equipment, so that we can properly diagnose and service your car, quickly and accurately. All of our Technicians are ASE Certified.(Including 3 Master Certified) That means you have the very best people working on your car. You will find our staff knowledgeable and friendly. We realize that fixing your car can be stressful and we take the time to prioritize your needs for today and help you be prepared for tomorrow.

History

Established in 1997.

QualTech Automotive was built and opened the present location at 10 815 FM 620 North. Originally, Kurt’s Auto Werks specelized in import vehicles. Over the past 14 years we added several other technicians. Now the shop has mechanics that specialize in American cars as well as some that specialize in Imports. We can help you with almost any of your vehicle needs. If for some reason we can’t help you, we will honestly tell you so, and try to locate the proper facility to get the job done. I’ve taken two cars there a couple of times, both for routine maintenance and for a diagnosis and repair. The office staff is friendly and the mechanics are competent. They didn’t try to BS me or upsell me on repairs, which is my litmus test for a repair shop, since I’m female. That’s right, you know it still happens. And I definitely know, because I know more about cars than an typical dude does these days. I give sneaky shops a wide berth.
The diagnostic and labor cost is about average for independent shops in our area, but typically less than what a dealer would charge. Turnaround time seems pretty quick. Appointments are absolutely necessary, and FYI they are NOT working on weekends.
Traffic is horrible on 620 and the neighboring areas, so honestly, don’t count on the shuttle being available, because it might already be out there in that traffic somewhere. A couple of times it was around, and once it wasn’t. The waiting room is tiny, but you can hang out and wait, or if you’re feeling lucky, take a walk down 620 to one of the area businesses. Or, you know, get a friend to pick you up.

I had a slightly odd electrical problem where I could not isolate the problem. AutoZone had tested the battery and alternator, pronounced both fine, so I took the car to QualTech. They brought out the high-​tech hardware and after testing the results of tests on battery, alternator and charging were graphed on a handy printout. End result was that the battery was borderline bad and I was able to prove it and get a free exchange for less than half the price of a new one.
The only negative was that when I asked about brakes, the recommended list of fixes were over the top (changing all fluids, pads and rotors). True, this is actually a best practice for a garage — they aim to give you the car in a like-​new condition, but practically speaking, it is not what most customers want or need.
The charge for the electrical testing was only $ 50, less than half what I would have paid any other maintenance. So I’m a happy customer and Todd was exceptionally friendly.

These are really good people. Bob, Matt and Mike were all very helpful when I had a potentailly very expensive problem with my Jaguar. Further, they were able to diagnose what previous service stations couldn’t. They were patient and supportive as I tried to decide on the right course of action. I trust them and will certainly use them with other cars in the future.

Easily the most professional, friendly, honest and well priced garage in town. My wife has an older vehicle that was approaching the end of our warranty. To manage possible issues we had the car thoroughly inspected. As can be expected in a 10 year old car, there were things to repair. The quote was thorough and spot on. They repaired all of the issues for less than another garage quoted for one issue. I will not mention names but it begins with an F and ends in irestone. We would recommend this garage time and again.

Top notch service and great price. These guys understand how to listen to a customer and understand a customers car and help them dial it in. What I’m talking about is performance stuff here but if they can take care of me they can take care of your boring minivan. ;)

Qualtech replaced our clutch, they did a poor job and we had to take it back in to have it fixed the very next day. then only a week later as we were road tripping across the midwest the clutch just falls apart throwing parts all over the highway in the middle of nowhere forcing us to have it towed, replaced and repaired on the outskirts of a small town. parts had to be ordered so we had to pony up for a hotel room unexpectedly as well. When we got back to Austin and contacted Qualtech they informed us that they would not issue any refunds or work with us at all because we took the car to a different service station to be repaired so they were absolved of any responsibility, so sorry could not have it towed for 10 hours back to your shop. They then resorted to threats and insults to make us go away, had the nerve to say they would not issue any refunds and if we contested the charges Texas law allows them to repo our car (which is does but just an rude thing to resort to to get rid of a dissatisfied customer). NOT good mechanics, and NOT good people to do business with. just avoid all together. _(follow up)__ I definitely do not have the wrong shop, it has been some time since the repair so doubt it could be turned in for a warranty at this point, just now getting around to leaving the review. so perhaps with employee turn over you will get a different experience. I stand by this review in regards to the experience we had at this location.

Wow– that is all I can say. This is my first review on Unilocal– I’m really not into it, but I had to for these guys. They have been my husband’s and my regular mechanic since we moved to Austin in the summer of 2014. They are always courteous and do not try to pressure anything through. An honest mechanic is almost an oxymoron these days.
Anyway, last week I called them because I had a screw in my tire. I came 20 min before closing, got help right away. They took out a two inch screw and patched up the hole– free of charge!
I would recommend these guys to anyone, and hope that I can help them drum up some more business with this review– they deserve it.

I can’t recommend a better automotive shop then Qualtech to get your vehicle worked on. The staff are honest trustworthy and really know what their doing when it comes to fixing your vehicle. They really perform a quality service of work. My truck has run better then ever since Qualtech has worked on it.

Everyone should please go to these guys even if they are no where near your home. I was in such a rough patch and they saved me! I was between leases and crashing on my brothers sofa to save a bit of money between leases but had a death in the family and then my car broke down. So no home or car now! I was convinced that it was a goner. I thought the engine was dead due to the burning of oil and all the problems it was giving me. I was spending so much on über and car rentals to get to work also. I was about to sell my Honda for parts and slave away to a new car but I had so many financial issues that I could not get a new car at the moment. Bob took it in and saved it! They could have taken total advantage of me and ripped me off but they were so kind and caring. These guys are the best. They are no where near where I live, but I will only go to them. Thanks for saving me during such a rough time.

We moved to Austin a year and a half ago and are still finding replacement everything — hairdresser and mechanic are the hardest. Fortunately we don’t have to look anymore for the mechanic because we found QualTech! Our car was shaking pretty bad when it drove even 30 mph. QualTech checked it out and confirmed it was the tires, but also said it looked like the front left axle needed some work as well. We authorized the repairs. A little later in the day, Mike calls us and said once they got the new tires on, the axle was fine so our bill dropped by $ 300+. I think a lot of auto repair places would have just done the extra stuff anyway and took our money, nut not QualTech. They have definitely earned a new customer.

Took my Subaru in for new bushings, rear suspension, motor mounts and some other misc items after the Subie dealership identified areas that failed inspection. The dealership estimated 3500 to take care of everything. So I brought it here for a 2nd opinion. They agreed with many things and disagreed with some. All in all, I came out with a car that handles like new again for about 1300 less than the original estimate. They kept me up on the status of the maintenance and even stored my car on their secured property until I returned from a business trip — no charge. Great honest shop!

My Yukon surprised me a couple of weeks ago when it suddenly had no forward or reverse. It was towed in Qualtech at about 4 o’clock and was diagnosed that same afternoon. I gave them the OK for the repair and it was fixed by noon the next day!
Their service was very friendly and professional, the quick diagnosis and repair made me feel like my vehicle was a priority for them. I appreciated how they were focused on my concern and didn’t suggest more work like most shops are known to do. I don’t know what else you could ask for, thanks again!

I called today because my oil warning light came on. Qual tech was busy but they fit me in anyways thanks to Bob. Bob comes off to me as someone very warm and helpful, and did the last time I was in for an oil change as well. I have had a check engine light on for possibly 5 years that no one could or did turn off. Bob turned it off and it’s stayed off which is amazing to me, considering I’ve been viewing it for so long and thought it wouldn’t be possible to turn it off without expensive repairs… I highly recommend this place for anyone in the area needing an oil change.

Amazing Service in a timely manner! This was my first time getting service done there and I was really encouraged by how knowledgeable their staff was. I mostly worked with Mike who had awesome customer skills. I could tell he was really intent on finding out the issue with my 2012 Nissan Sentra. The service was done in an extremely timely manner. I was thinking my car needed couple days work, I checked in my car around 1:30pm and it was done being serviced around 4:20pm same day. Awesome professionals is all I have to say about Qualitech Automotive. Thanks Mike!

Excellent Customer Service. My poor Tundra was broken, engine light came on and it was losing power. Brought it to these guys for a diagnostic. Dropped it off the night before. The next day they diagnosed the problem and repaired it in the same day after calling me to get the OK for the repair (and give me an estimated price). I had my truck back that evening. It was pricey (mostly the parts) but you get what you pay for. They are friendly fast and efficient if you rely on your car or truck on a daily basis and need a repair these are the guys for you. Highly recommend.
As a side note I called a local dealer to compare prices on the repair, it would have cost me slightly more at the dealer and they would have had my truck for almost a week.

The guys here were the only ones who could fix my old Explorer when it kept dying on me throughout 2014… I took it to 3 places prior that weren’t able to figure it out. They were also very up front with costs and didn’t try to sell additional services, even if my car could use it (I don’t intend on keeping this car for much longer).
Being a woman, I appreciate not getting a hard sell or the use of scare tactics to try and coerce me into paying for services that I don’t need or want. Also, they have a $ 21 oil change, which is excellent. I’m taking my car here every time.

These guys are great! I’ve taken my FJ Cruiser in twice for scheduled maintenance and have left feeling great. They are quick, knowledgeable, well-​priced, and friendly. They don’t push you to get anything done that isn’t necessary. I’ve been to a few different places around Austin over the years and this is the first one where I feel like I don’t have to prepare myself to question the service guys.
So far I haven’t had to get anything major done (knock on wood) but I’ve heard them talking to customers who are having to get major issues fixed and I can tell they guys behind the counter are genuinely trying to help find the best solution for the customers.
