Having never had acupuncture before going to Peggy, I don’t have anything to compare her to. I was referred to her by a friend of mine who’d been seeing her for a while. I went in because I was having some health issues that I don’t want to get into on the public internet, but will tell you that she took an extensive health history and lifestyle questionnaire and sat there with me and chatted for a long time. Peggy has this warmth about her that makes her office feel safe and comfortable. Her acupuncture and cupping (is that what it’s called?) treatments have been very effective, yet when I had thrown out my back pretty severely, she wasn’t afraid to recommend that I go see a doctor and treat my pain Western-​style.
Over the past two years of seeing her on average about once every month or two, Peggy has given me some really powerful lifestyle, diet, and general living advice that have really helped me improve my overall health and well-​being. Peggy is knowledgeable, skilled, kind, warm, and compassionate. If you’re thinking of acupuncture, go see Peggy.

I don’t think that I can write enough lovely things about this woman to even scratch the surface.
She is extremely warm and present and is devoted to you and her practice. Her manner is gentle and never bossy. She comes to you at your level and gently suggests, bringing things into light rather than chastising you.
I love her and she made the impossible possible. She makes miracles happen!

So I had some sort of awful cough/​snot/​breathing problem/​sniffly/​plugged up sort of thing going on for a long time. I called Peggy and left a message and when she called back, she said, «I’m sorry to hear you’re not at 100%» (How cute is that?!)
Anyway, she was able to get me in in just a few days, and as normal, talked to me about my symptoms and what-​not. Although she generally tries to go with the all-​natural stuff, she told me that if I weren’t better by Friday that I needed to go to the doctor. (And she even gave me that motherly-​you better go-​look.)
She «gave me whiskers,» meaning she stuck a few needles near my nose/​mouth area. They were a little weird, but cool, too. Those needles she stuck in my legs, man, I could really feel my chi moving around – it’s so cool! It’s such a fascinating feeling.
She gave me all sorts of herbs and stuff to take, and no lie, almost immediately, I was feeling better. I’m telling you – she’s magical.

I feel so, so lucky having met and getting to go to Peggy regularly for acupuncture.
She is incredibly sweet and gentle, and goes over any changes that have occurred in between sessions to determine how everything is working and how I am feeling as a result. She has also been a great help in getting me the right herbal supplements for my journey in becoming a healthier person — and guides me on my path to better nutrition and eating and is always more than happy to answer any questions I have about food, diet, and things that work for her. She’s amazing!
I have been suffering for years (since I moved to Austin) with all manner of terrible allergies that really have made life in the spring and summer difficult for me. During my last treatment, I was stuffy and stopped up and thought to ask if Peggy had any recommendations or suggestions for combating my allergens. She placed a couple of needles to specifically help with my breathing, and I swear immediately I could tell a difference and could breathe much clearer for the rest of the day. She also suggested some Chinese herbs that I have been taking daily since that treatment, and I can really, really tell a difference. It’s been such a relief to get some relief!
I’ve been known to be really sensitive and a big baby when it comes to acupuncture and I’ve never even twitched or felt any pain when she’s treated me. It’s always incredibly soothing and a very calming experience, that I cannot recommend enough!

(I challenge you to find another medical practitioner who can boast all that!) I’ve been a happy patient of Peggy for about a year and her treatments have helped me with everything from seasonal allergies to insomnia; neck spasms to PMS. Additionally, the office environment and staff at Central Family Practice are friendly, inviting and calm. I always feel so much clearer, more relaxed and peaceful after treatments with Peggy. Like seeing a doctor, visiting an acupuncturist is a very personal and intimate experience. Because of the nature of the medicine, a good acupuncturist must pay attention to details and be very precise, while simultaneously providing the patient with a sense of ease and calm. A good acupuncture treatment can help with a variety of issues (from indigestion, anxiety, allergies, to serious infections) and it’s affects can last for a very long time. I have seen Peggy several times for different reasons over the last two years. What I like most about seeing Peggy is that she treats the whole person. She is very thorough when she takes your medical history and inquires into all aspects of your general health at every session. More importantly, Peggy is warm, considerate, and sensitive during her treatments. When I leave a session, my body and soul feel nurtured and I am ready to take on the world again.

I have been an advocate of acupuncture since I first started receiving treatments as a teenager, and found it to be the only thing that helps me with allergies, chronic sinus infections, lady troubles, and a stressed and depleted immune system. I’ve had treatments from acupuncturists all over the country, and I have to say that I’m very grateful to have Peggy Ghorbani here in Austin, because some practitioners truly have an intuitive gift, and Peggy is one of those. Her energy is so gentle and loving, and her technique is very deft, confident and informed. The intelligence and curiosity that she brings to her work, combined with a clear passion for helping others makes her one of the best licensed acupuncturists out there. I’ve sent many friends to her who were previously terrified of needles and the idea of being stuck with them — all of whom are now devoted patients. Peggy helps people. She is a kind soul, and a talented healer. She has helped me with a number of health and emotional issues, but especially when I was recovering from an invasive surgery. If you are seeking a wonderful acupuncturist, I recommend her very, very highly.

Acupuncture. Once you get over the thought of becoming a pincushion, the rest is easy. I found acupuncture to be not painful at all, unless you’re a real touch-​me-​not, and, if so, what were you thinking?
In working with Peggy, and strictly in my experience, I discovered that, while acupuncture is not a panacea, it’s not a placebo, either. There are some things it works well for, and, some, not so much. Some effects are lasting, others are temporary. In practice, I found I need to use acupuncture tactically as an adjunctive therapy.
You can easily be lulled into this as a weekly getaway or spa treatment. Peggy has convenient hours and a very cozy, comfortable room at Central Family Practice. It’s such a welcoming escape from the stresses of everyday life that you have to be careful not to abuse the hour-​long escape of incense, essential oils, and music.
What I respect and appreciate about Peggy is that she is a holistic Eastern-​centric practitioner. Her treatment plan starts with a very thorough dossier of paperwork involving your medical history, and a required 30 minute assessment and interview prior to the first session. That’s far more than you’ll get with any Western doctor on the first visit, indeed.
Without a doubt, Peggy rocks. If you’re thinking about getting started with acupuncture, I’d give her a try. This is one acupuncturist that won’t needle you to death.

Update/​Confession Time: I’m addicted to Peggy.
She is amazing. I go to her bi-​weekly (sometimes more if I have drama going on). She is always the picture of nurturing and caring. Just being in her presence I feel better. No matter what ails me or even if nothing ails me, I leave feeling calm, soothed, relaxed, and cared for.
I have had at least three epiphanies during my treatments and even on the non-​epiphany visits I feel meditative and still in my thoughts (that’s a miracle right there).
I find it very interesting that since I started seeing Peggy in January I’ve been gradually shifting to healthier and healthier habits. I don’t find that to be any coincidence.
If you’re a dude you might want to check out of this review now it’s about female things… Okay, Ladies. She fixed my periods. I had periods from hell, but with each month they have gotten better and better. I went from almost needing Rx strength meds for the pain to really minimal pain that a little Motrin can fix. I wish I had done this years ago.
From poor sleep, bad periods, to the common cold, she has put me straight. So if you’re scared of needles don’t be. They don’t hurt and you’ll feel incredible. It’s really amazing and Peggy is PERFECTION!
