Specialties

Parkside Community School is a long standing Montessori school serving preschool and elementary age children in Austin, Texas. Since 1991, we have offered the highest quality Montessori education in an environment that nurtures the whole child and provides a strong, loving community for the entire family. We have recently relocated from our downtown location to a beautiful 12-acre campus on Slaughter Lane.

We have two Primary classrooms (ages 3 – 6), two Lower Elementary classrooms (ages 6 – 9 /1st-3rd grade) and one Upper Elementary classrooms (ages 9 – 12 /4th-6th grade).

History

Established in 1991.

Parkside Community Montessori School was just a dream in January of 1991. The dream began coming to fruition, however, when teachers Joe and Claire Bruno joined with benefactors Eduardo Longoria and Mary Ann Justman to transform an abandoned meat packing plant adjacent to Zilker Park into a beautiful garden of learning.

In the fall of 1991, Parkside Community School opened with 75 children. For 23 years, our school flourished in its well-loved downtown location and enrollment grew to 135 students. But as downtown Austin grew, a change was needed. New construction projects, increased traffic challenges and rent increases prompted our search for a new home.

In June of 2014, Parkside moved to a beautiful 12-acre campus at 3207 W. Slaughter Lane in Southwest Austin. This land has hundreds of trees and a sparkling creek winding through the woods. It is home to an astonishing variety of native plants and flowers, butterflies, and birds ranging from whistling ducks to warblers.
