Overhead Door Company of Austin

BAIT and SWITCH. My tension spring broke and I called them to replace it. They quoted me $ 90 to $ 150 over the phone (and I knew exactly what I wanted (size, type of spring, type of door – everything). When they showed up they said it was going to be $ 625 for a single, $ 825 for a double.
The guys said it cost $ 150 just for the spring. I found them for $ 22.25 to $ 39 available at Home Depot and even Wallmart. They guys said that anyone selling these online or in retail were doing so illegally (they had to have a license to sell them (maybe to install or they have to be authorized by the vendor to sell – but this was trash). They were either completely ignorant installers, or they just lied. This list of lies and upsells kept on and on – I felt like I was on a sleazy used car lot!
I said I wouldn’t pay more than the quote and they called the office back and forth trying to negotiate a better price. Finally I said No – and then they wanted a $ 39 fee for coming by. It is NOT listed ANYWHERE on the website and the person setting the appt didn’t mention anything about it. I should have just told them to get lost and said sue me – if you think you can charge a made up fee after pulling a bait and switch. Finally, I negotiated it down to $ 300 (half their original price) and just had them get it done – so I could move my cars out.
Afterwards I looked up the avg price for replacing a spring and it was $ 125 to $ 225 for TWO springs. I would take them to small claims court to recover the difference, but my hourly rate I would loose to pursue it is worth more than the difference – so I will blast them all over the Internet.
Do NOT call them – they are scammers! BTW, I sent them a detailed review (too long to post here) to give them a chance to respond (Website says guaranteed satisfaction) and they just ignored it. This company deserves to go out of business and is an embarrassment to the trade. Now on to the other posts.

I cannot speak to the quality of work of this company, but I can assuredly speak to the amount of money they charge. First, they charge a fee for an estimate. This is the first red flag. NEVER pay for an estimate when there are plenty of businesses that provide them at no charge.
My door has been broken for a little while as I have been working crazy hours at work and just didn’t have time. Things slowed at bit and so I called around noon and the gentleman I spoke to was nice and courteous and said he could have someone at my house at 6pm. Then, he went into a spiel that ended with a «discounted» service call of $ 39. He said it was originally like $ 100 (not sure of the exact amount but I just remember thinking it was really high).
Being at work and being busy, I said fine, even tho it was against my better judgement.
The repairman showed up on time and was nice and courteous as well. He spotted the problem right away– broken right spring. He, too went into a spiel about having to replace both because the new one would cause the old one to break. I said that was fine, whatever needed to be done. He then stated that each spring went for $ 249.00 plus $ 199 install + tax.
That comes to $ 754.50. To fix two springs.
I politely declined, paid the $ 39 and came to Unilocal and I emailed another company that not only installed the new springs, but also installed the new opener I purchased. The repair, install as well as the cost of the opener was still less than the original estimate from this company.
Please do research as I did– the springs he wanted to charge me $ 250 for are online for $ 50 – 60 each.
I am only choosing one star because it won’t accept none.

Regrettably I used this pathetic excuse for a business!!! Do yourself a big favor and go elsewhere for garage door repairs. Had garage door come off the track Sunday at 3:30pm so did not have time to do my due diligence and research this company before calling them and boy I wish I had…
After Shawn came over it was decided that repairs to get the garage working again would set me back $ 150.00 but during his inspection of the damaged door he let it be known my springs were in serious need of replacement and could work a special holiday deal which included the replacement of my springs and he would throw in the garage door repair for no charge?! Of course knowing nothing about garage doors, repairs and such I thought the $ 600.00 dollar bill was a bit pricy but was caught between a rock and hard and place. After garage door was done it wasn’t until yesterday that I needed to open the garage. When I did nothing happened?!
Upon further inspection found the wire to the sensor that Shawn spliced had come undone. I called this lousy company only to get the run around and what made me hot was these rude people will absolutely not let you finish a sentence!!! They cut me off and reluctantly sent Shawn back out yesterday. He had an attitude was not at all the same person who sold me $ 600 dollars worth of new springs!
Shawn was there maybe ten minutes. Came to the door to tell me he had spliced the wire and were good to go. Wrong!!!
After he left I went out to shut the garage door and still nothing but a clicking sound!!!
Needless to say I was pissed by this point and called to get dispatcher to contact Shawn to get him back to the house before he got to far away!!!
Back on the phone with the first of three employees who insisted on cutting me off not letting explain what was going on… the first one hung up on me, second one put me on hold for over ten minutes and the third, a woman was semi human and tried to troubleshoot the issue with no success. I finally had to hang up and walk away just to calm down but by this time Kevin the sevice manager called to let me know there was nothing they could due since supposedly per Shawn a dog bit thru the wires and they were not liable any longer which was absolutely not true… I explained I thought the cold temps had loosened the tape surrounding the wire splice and had come undone period the end!!!
So I am now out of town for Christmas and was forced to leave my garage broken and un-​secured for the remainder of this week. «Merry Christmas»…
I an now pursuing legal options to get my money back as well as filing a complaint with the attorney general… after reading all the horrible reviews on this site and others I cannot for the life of me understand why this company is still in business???
I guess they take advantage of people like me who lacked due diligence…
Do yourself a favor run rabbit run!!!

After shopping 2 other garage door companies, and feeling like I had walked into a car dealership, I was really happy with Overhead Doors. James gave me straight facts, straight prices and I ordered a basic garage door. It was ordered, delivered, and installed with no problem. If you want TLC and handholding, they are probably not going to be your choice.

My garage door literally fell apart on me this morning as I was leaving for my morning walk. Seriously? Dogs gotta go. So… as I walk up and down the block with my girls so as to not leave my now totally vulnerable house open to thieves and murderers, I start calling various garage door repair companies. Knowing that I owned an actual «Overhead Door» brand garage door, I called them to inquire about replacement panels because the top panel was toast. Mangled toast.
They proceed to tell me that my particular door has been discontinued (of course), and that replacement doors are $xxx. Ugh. But… he says they might be able to fix it with a brace even though it may not look perfect or even good. I was desperate. I have to be able to close & secure the door. So I’m thinking how am I going to come up with an unplanned $xxx if they can’t fix it. Tears.
Carlos shows up and he’s not optimistic. He says he will try a brace & try to bend the panel back into shape. He doesn’t know if he can do it or not, but he’s going to try.
I go inside the house and go about my business. Maybe an hour later, I hear the sweet sound of the garage door opening and closing. I step into the garage and all my worries disappear. The garage door was fixed. I don’t need to buy 2 new doors. Not only was it fixed, it looked practically perfect. I was shocked. I told Carlos he was a genius.
Not only did he fix my completely mangled door (see pics), but he also lubed the other door and made sure it was working smoothly, checked all the hinges, and programmed 2 keychain remotes for me.
This started out as a really crappy day and within hours, everything was fixed. I’m still receiving calls back from other companies who I contacted earlier in the morning. Thank you for actually answering your phone and not making me leave a voicemail. I’m so happy I could cry. And I just might. Thank you Carlos & James! :) :) :) :) :)

So, we were having issues with our garage door opener, so I scheduled a visit. He worked on it and was able to get the garage door to open and close, but told me that they didn’t make replacement parts for the model we had, so instead of paying the $ 139 visit (in which he got large greasy palm prints on the white and cream garage door.) We decided to get another opener installed for $ 400. They installed the new opener and called me to take a look. They left even more palm prints, (see picture I uploaded) a scrape on the top of the door and they took off with the key to the door. They did not attach the key to the opener, so in the case of a power outage I won’t be able to get the door open manually. They left without telling me when they would be back to finish installing the door.

Super prompt and repair of a common garage door issue. Hats off for quick, professional repair. Called at 9am had a technician at the house by 11am. Thank you

Okay, I’m usually diligent about reading reviews on Unilocal before hiring anyone but this time I failed to do so and I paid for it. Literally.
My garage door wasn’t working so I called the company that installed it (Overhead Door) to see about getting it fixed. Mario came out to the house, noticed what was wrong right away (sensor had come off), and fixed it. This took all of three minutes. My service charge? $ 139.14. Yep, that comes to $ 46.38 a minute.
I do agree that a service charge is warranted but $ 139.14 is ridiculous. Very, very disappointed.

Don’t do it… I called, they gave a «over the phone» estimate. Poor business model, how can they know they can actually replace the doors? I requested a site visit which was scheduled but they never showed up. They called 2 days later to schedule a site visit, they showed up after 5 even though it was scheduled for first thing in the morning. So I had to reschedule when they decided that they couldn’t install unless I had a ceiling fan in the garage removed. Then yesterday, the shop called to reschedule because the guys in the shop — over the weekend — took the window panels that were suppose to go in my garage door (robbing Peter to pay Paul) so it was scheduled for today. I was suppose to be first the first installation this morning, it’s 4:09pm. I called and there was no good excuse given on top of which they said it would be another hour before they could get here to do the job… really, after all this, I’m still not a priority? You won’t get good customer service at this place. I cancelled the job, no way am I using a company that can’t do what they say.

Super rude! I tried to give the company my business — Angela was incredibly rude and hung up one after I very nicely suggested $ 350 to change a gate code might be high.
Now I know why they have such bad reviews!
Will go elsewhere!

Absolute worst! So sorry we tried to do business with them. Incompetent, untruthful, bumbling staff that cost us two months trying to purchase a $ 3K door and they failed at every turn. Delivered a door after 2 months of waiting with one empty pane, another broken, and all of the glass going the wrong way. Their response was their staff doesn’t understand the difference between horizontal and vertical. Top it off with cavalier attitudes, the rudest receptionist in the state, and a reputation that we just learned of that they never get residential orders right. Avoid at all costs!

Fired this company BEFORE they even arrived! Was given a window between 12 — 4pm, and at 4pm, no technician. Spoke with Angela who claimed to be the manager, very useless and rude. Don’t waste your time, go elsewhere!

DO NOT USE THEM!!! I wish we could assign minus star rating. They have very high turnover and no one seems to know what is going on. I was in the process of selling my house and they came out to give me a quote. I paid the service fee which was suppose to be credited towards the work. They gave me an appt to return to do the work and never showed. They did not return my money and I ended up having to rush to find someone else to do the work. I even filed a BBB complaint, but they didn’t care.

Don’t do it. How do places like this stay in business? They gave me a four hour window of 8 – 12 for a repair. At 11:30 no one had called or shown up. I had to keep calling to see if someone was going to show up and then later after waiting for 6 hours the receptionist Angela told me she was happy to cancel my appointment but it wasn’t her fault the tech didn’t read the order time correctly. After my sixth inquiry at 2:00 she told me in such a rude manner that «she’d be perfectly happy to cancel my appointment», I almost didn’t have a response. I said no I just really wanted my door fixed. Just tell a gal what is going on is all I wanted. I guess she did but she was so rude to me in the process. I was never rude back to her. I’m too old for that and I really like just being honest on Unilocal instead. It seems much more positive. I just hate that companies are struggling and people are out of work and situations like this make me never want to use OVERHEAD DOOR when it comes time to replace mine. Obviously, she’d had a rough day. She said she was the only one in her office which was hard to believe since they are the OVERHEAD DOOR local distributor. If it was true then whomever owns the company isn’t looking to increase their business and they shouldn’t have left this poor woman there all by herself. Her lack of manners and condescension was pretty uncalled for and completely unnecessary no matter what the situation. I felt bad for her. It was a terrible experience for me and a waste of an entire day. At least I did not pay them any money!

Good company and do good work but OVERPRICED! Called Austin TX Garage door and they did for half the price and did a great job!!!

I also cannot recommend this company. The technician said categorically the door could not be repaired, and that I would need a new one at $ 850. The technician barely looked at the door when he gave the opinion. It turned out that his opinion was not true. Allen Mimms at All Area Overhead (whom I highly recommend; 512−945−6638) had the door purring for a single service call. He warned me that the door wouldn’t last forever — so that partially justifies the other opinion. But the point is I was given an option that I wasn’t even offered by Overhead Door Company of Austin — and when I eventually need a new door, I won’t be calling this company. I’ll be calling Allen. I’m a real guy and you can call me if you want at 512−402−9522.

Truth: Overhead Door made a huge difference in the curb appeal of my new home.
First, I decided to purchase an ‘investment’ property for my first home. Ha!
My part time job became my full time hobby to find the best comparable price the service and product that was offered by each company. NOT an easy task, I learned quickly that the lowest and highest were pretty easy to toss. One was poor quality and the other was just out of price range. I had read Overhead Door’s reviews (less than stellar). Many of them were over 2 years old. This told me that they were now probably under new mgt, since there were no recent reviews and they hadn’t gone ot of business. I don’t know much about fixing up an old house. But I know a salesman who cares about their clients and takes care of things in a timely manor. (And if my Gram tought me one thing it is that you can BS your way through a conversation for 5 mins. Then you had better know what you are talking about :))
I filled out a service request on line and received a call back within an hour! How often does that happen? In fact, I am still waiting on 3 call backs from 3 different remodeling companies. I saw Overhead Door labels all over the place; at HEBs, WalMart, new friends homes and many of the new buildings going up downtown. I was nervous they would be out my price range for fixing up an older home. To my surprise, the salesman was awesome. He even helped me choose a garage door offering that oh, so popular ‘curb appeal’ and still well within budget. My new door came with great service and a new friend. He has followed up several times to make sure the door was a good fit for the home and that everything was working properly. I would recommend them to anyone who is looking for what they need, not what the salesman just needs to sell.

I cannot recommend this company based on past performance.
Two years ago, one of the torsion bar springs on my garage door broke. After calling around, I chose what I thought was a safe bet by going with a national name in Overhead Door Company. When the technician showed up in an unmarked older pickup truck, I began to be concerned.
Although Charlie provided prompt service (which I have since come to learn is standard fare in this line of business), the first trip left me with a door that was not properly balanced and took a lot of strength to open by hand. I knew this could not be good news for my garage door opener, so I called them back out.
Charlie proceeded to tell me it was my fault for not knowing the exact materials that my garage door was composed of (metal face with fiberglass insulation; I told them it was a metal door with gray vinyl insulation). He blamed me – not his lack of carrying proper inventory in the small toolbox on his truck – because he installed the wrong springs for my door. Never once did he mention this issue on his first trip. So, he replaced both springs again and «rebalanced» the door.
The door was slightly easier to raise, but nowhere near as easy as before the spring broke. Charlie swore the door was properly balanced and refused to exert any additional effort in adjusting it in order to make it lighter. This being his second trip, he had my money and had no real incentive to perform better. After taking two afternoons off work to get the job done right, I foolishly gave up.
For $ 200, the door should have been in perfect working order. The fact that it wasn’t ultimately burned up the gear case in my garage door opener, but insidiously outside any causal liability period.
There are several garage door service companies in Austin. Don’t start here. The national name is in franchise only. They operate so independently of their namesake they don’t even honor the specials advertised on the home page.
