I hardly bother with antique stores anymore because the prices here are a STEAL. I have found so many beautiful items and pieces here that decorate my house. I try to hit it up every couple of weeks since their stock is constantly rotating and prices dropping. If you see something you LOVE, I recommend getting it when you see it before another shopper snatches it up. If you’re on the fence, come back in a couple weeks when the price has dropped. If it’s still there, get it. If it’s gone, then it wasn’t meant to be… besides, you will probably find something even better

Don’t leave your car there for 1 minute during non business hours. Despite many spots with no «towing enforced» signs… they use cameras to tow your ass. Worse, there is no signage ANYWHERE telling you where to locate your car should it be towed. Business closed at 4, I parked for 1 hour at 7pm in a cluster of «no signage» spots and was towed in less than an hour. The least they could do is give signage on who to call if towed. I will NEVER shop here. The least you can do is put up adequate signage other than «video surveillance.» Thanks for ruining a beautiful night of what should have been a 2 hour night with my 2 year old son, leaving me stranded, no idea who to call (not even a «call 3−1−1 if car is towed sign.»). The store needs to update the website with any changes re bringing in items for consignment. I drove 30 miles to donate items only to find that the store was closed to consignments. At first those of us waiting were told that the store would accept donations but then due to lack of volunteers, they decided not to accept the items. The website indicates that Wed (before Thanksgiving) is an early closing day, but nothing regarding consignments on Tuesday.
This inconsiderate treatment of clients caused me to NOT do any Christmas shopping at the store today and I doubt I will be doing business again with them in the future. The store has always been difficult and capricious in its consignment policies and they’ve finally become too difficult to depend on as a seller when there are easier and closer alternatives.

Things you should know about Next To New:
It’s not a «thrift store,» it’s a consignment store — which means that people bring their items in to be sold, (I’m assuming) they set the price they think their item is valued at, and when it sells the charity organization (St. David’s Episocpal church) gets 50% of the cash.
If you spot something you like but you think it’s overpriced (and it very well might be), take a look at the list of 3 dates. There’s the initial price on top with the date it arrived in store, then two additional markdowns that happen as time goes on. The longer the item’s been hanging around, the more likely you are to catch a deal.
At first I didn’t see anything I liked within a price range I was willing to spend. BUT, after realizing that the prices were marked to sell lower with the passing of time I went back around and looked at a few items that caught my eye. Like magic, that vintage desk that was priced at $ 125 became 32 bucks and that interesting hutch (which turned out to be a 1950’s era record player) was marked down that day to $ 50.
So, looks like there are deals to be had here, depending on your timing. And, of course, magic.

The bad reviews surprised me! I found the place to be clean, attractively arranged, and an eclectic collection… lots to look at, including some higher end items the prices of which are systematically reduced over time. Lots of volunteer staff eager to help. Worth a stop.

The best resale shop in town, particularly for furniture and home goods. They have a nice sliding scale that makes things get less expensive the longer they are there. The money all goes to very good local charities too.

Sellers beware. A friend of mine took in an a legitimate high end brand piece to consign. It was evaluated as something lesser than what it was certified as. I liked it and since it was labeled as a fake, I went to buy it knowing I was getting a deal.
When I went in to buy it, they tried selling the exact piece to me as the real brand they had claimed as fake just days earlier! They took advantage of the seller I what I can only assume is a regular practice for this shop.
With so many other great consignment shops in Austin, you don’t have to do business with a place like this.

Set up is great, well organized, not overwhelming but a great adventure. Everything in there seemed reusable, not the kind of place you question if it is going to be not as nice when amongst your nice stuff (well depending on what your stuff is). Sweet people working around the place, and I found a great wine rack!

Great bargains, stellar selection, vintage finds galore! Aside from extremely helpful staff members, the store knows its stuff and has a wonderful tiered pricing system. I’ve purchased everything from Waterford to furniture here and would love to be way closer and have a way bigger house… just to accomodate my treasures found there.

This place. Is terrible. Everything’s broken, it has a weird smell… nothing’s old enough to be vintage, but it’s not nice enough to be consignment. So I was halfway through the place by the time I looked at a price tag, and holy crap, it’s overpriced too? You’ve got to be kidding me!

I absolutely LOVE this store! The prices are great, the deals are aplenty, and the quality of the goods is astounding! I got a couple of refurbished dining chairs, a sweater, and a necklace all for under $ 75. My roommate and I now stop in at least once a weekend – even if we don’t really need anything, it’s still fun to stop in and look around. I don’t think we will ever go buy retail furniture again after seeing how much stuff we could get for cheaper at Next To New.
In addition to the great deals, Next To New has impressed me with its entirely volunteer staff associated with St. David’s Episcopal Church. Also, a large portion of their profits are used toward the various ministries that they aid. Pretty cool to know that your money is going to a good cause and you still make out like a bandit with awesome stuff!
I would recommend this thrift shop to everyone — young and old, guys and gals, doesn’t matter because you’re gonna find something awesome for your home or office or dorm or closet or whatever! Happy shopping!

Next to New is my favorite thrift store in Austin. We checked out this place during the Thanksgiving holiday and they had some great finds in the kitchen wares and dish section. They also offer discounts for items that have been around for a while, be sure to check out the price tags for the most current discounted price. This place is a mecca for anyone who loves dishes or home goods. They also have a decent number of furniture pieces and a small area for clothing and they even sell large rugs in the back. Check this place out!

I recently moved to Austin from California with only what would fit in my car. Which means I had absolutely no furniture. I have a hard time justifying spending outrageous amounts on new furniture, so I always shop used.
Next To New is a great place to find used furniture. After trolling around Austin looking at consignment and thrift shops, this is one of my favorite. Their selection is very diverse. They have really unique pieces that can be priced a little high, but a lot their standard stuff is really great price. I saw a dining table set (with 6 chairs) there for only $ 50! Granted, the table had seen better days, but it would work.
They also have a lot of dish sets. And I mean sets. It’s really disappointing going to a second hand store, finding the perfect plate that you’ve been looking for all your life, only to find one other bowl in the set. This place has whole services for 4 or 8 (sometimes more). None of them have quite been my style (yet), but its refreshing nonetheless.
They also deliver for a fee. Maybe $ 60-​$ 90 depending on your zip and how many items you buy. Pretty good deal if the alternative is renting a uhaul and moving it yourself.

N2N is the best place for used furniture in town. The paid staff management changed about 8 mos ago and it’s just gotten so much better. Great furniture, almost always something cool and modern and really competitively priced. I buy everything there. They don’t carry guy’s clothes there so I go elsewhere for that but I just love the place overall. And if you want to sell something they are very cool about consignments. My mom used to volunteer for them back in the ‘70s when they were on Lavaca. It’s as good now as it was then. Go.
NOTE it’s not in the same place as the pic below. IT’s moved to a much larger warehousy-​but-​handsome looking place just north of Thundercloud now. Purple Martin Propagators has a martin house on the street there so you can’t miss that.

I am not as hot on this place as all the other reviewers. I went hoping to find some unique and inexpensive bedroom furniture for my new apartment. What reviewers failed to mention is that this store is primarily geared toward the 60+ age range and is not cheap at all! For example I found one dresser for $ 200, another had a broken drawer and it was $ 125 and that pretty much encompasses the bedroom furniture collection.
There were a lot of outdated and again 60+ type suits in the women’s department and after that I’d had enough.
I marked this as «pricey» because it is for a thrift store.

First, my apologies to the nice church ladies that run this place for wearing my dung beetle t-​shirt into their establishment. It has an illustration of a dung beetle and says «Eats Shit and Dies.» I kept wondering why I was getting odd glances from the store clerks. At least the shirt is entirely factual :-)
We just bought a new (old) home that needs tons of work on the style front, so naturally consignment and thrift stores are a great fit, allowing us to get quite a bit more «bang» for our buck while still picking up unique /​eclectic items.
I’ve driven past this place a million times but never actually stopped in; thrift stores are a dime a dozen in this town and the range in quality is dramatic.
We stopped in on a Saturday, along with seemingly everyone else in the 78 757 zip code. The nice ladies that run the joint were grilling hot dogs for the Fourth of July, offering free lunch to all shoppers. Generous! Who doesn’t want a tasty weeny while sifting through heeps of other people’s old junk?
I say junk endearingly. This place has one of everything. From appliances to antiques to TONS of jewelry and clothing, it’s probably in here if you look hard enough.
Pricing is super cool.. .. this is one of those places where what you pay is based on how long its been sitting on the shelf — when an item is put out for sale, it has an initial (highest price) and also outlines a price reduction schedule that I believe triggers in 30 day increments.
I bought a fabulous old furniture cabinet that certainly needs a bit of refinishing. It was priced at $ 67.00, but since the first price reduction date outlined on the tag had passed, it was reduced to just $ 30. If I could have waited just two more days, I could have scored it for just $ 16, assuming someone else didn’t beat me to the punch.
Definitely going back. Docked my review by one star for the attitude of the guy that helped me load my car.. . the nice checkout lady told me I could go down the stairs in the store and find a guy in a blue shirt who would be glad to help me load. I find him.. . sitting on a couch watching a big screen TV with a sports match on. He was completely and totally put out when I asked him to help.. . never said a word to me the entire time. Even if he is mute, which I could totally understand, he could still acknowledge my «thank you’s» and respond non-​verbally to my communications. I assume most everyone here is a volunteer, so why the grumpiness? Regardless, I am sure it’s an isolated incident and wouldn’t let it keep me from scoring a free hot dog and an incredible deal.

This is the sort of thrift shop that is just my style — sweet antique furniture pieces generously scattered between bizarre art and complete sets of china. This is the sort of place you should go when you are furnishing a home and are looking for a cool accent piece to «tie the room together» as Lebowski would say.
I wouldn’t come here for the clothing selection (which is a little frumpy in my opinion), but for the décor and furniture it is tops! You could have a lot of fun spending an hour poking around the enormous show room.

I am the same age as Next2New… lol — I didn’t know that til I started volunteering there this year!!!
I remember being about 3 feet tall as a kid, with nose prints on glass cases when N2N was located on Lavaca, downtown Austin!
You can literally find almost any thing here!
Next 2 New has great gifts for any occasions, great buys in this 2009 recession — great way to also make money — as it is also a consignment shop.
Volunteers are always welcome, it certainly is a great place to volunteer!

I really like this store. Everything in here is high quality and the prices are fair. Better than fair, their prices start out fair and then go down month to month by about 25% — their tags have a list of dates and prices to help you out with that. The system is wonderful if you’re unsure if you want a piece or want to pay that much for something.
I have a few items in there that I like to check up on once a week. I bought a table, 6 chairs and 2 leaves there last Saturday that I’d been watching for about a month or two and the wait for the price to drop and saving up really made me appreciate the table even more than I loved it for its beauty and functionality. The price I paid was about $ 160.00 for the table, chairs and leaves, which I think is a pretty good bargain.
The nick nacks and jewelry here are great too. They’re only open 10:00 to 4:00 M-​Sat (I think) so watch the time if you want to go by. The staff is really nice and helpful, but they are so friendly that you may have to wait a bit to get someone’s attention if they’re busy. They also seem to have a ton of owl objects and pictures, but that might just be me looking for them.

Next to New Shop is a resale store run by St. David’s Episcopal Church of Austin. They have fast become one of my favorite used/​vintage/​consignment stores in Austin.
The large storehouse of goods has no particular trait that seduces me. They have no merchandise that’s particularly unique. Items are placed on shelves, but no one has spent hours on themed displays. Next to New is what it is and doesn’t pretend to be anything. This is why I love the place. Want an old toaster because yours is on the fritz? Well okay, Next to New probably has one and will probably sell it to you for under $ 10. I get the sense that a portion of the staff are older members of the St. David’s congregation. Which makes them amazing employees. They are kind and patient, they know their stock, and they believe in what they’re doing… if only we all were such model employees!
N2N carries your garden-​variety of used merchandise… anything and everything you could possibly need to fill a home. To name a few: furniture, kitchen appliances, dishes, old radios and TVs, books, movies, jewelry, rugs and office supplies.
I’d recommend a walk-​through at this store to anyone.
