MedSpring Urgent Care

I cannot say enough good things about this place. Great service. Very clean. Very professional.

This place does not provide a very high quality of care at all. I came in with a fractured bone in my foot, and upon entering found the staff to be quite rude and more concerned about getting my payment and co-​pay than giving two shits about the fact I was in a ton of pain.
I then got an x-​ray and waited ~45 minutes to see Dr. Ronald Only (waiting room was completely empty) who confirmed I had broken my foot. He was not friendly, warm, or engaging at all, but seemed more concerned with getting through the appointment than offering any guidance or care. In fact, I was just given a print out from their EMR system of how to care for my foot. He also initially refused to give me crutches at first b/​c he said it should only hurt when I bend it (ortho doc said that was completely wrong).
Finally, I forgot to bring my insurance card so that was an absolute nightmare. They don’t even have a fax for BCBS to fax you over a new copy, and you can’t just give them the group ID, etc over the phone. The best part is they also failed to give me my x-​ray CD upon discharge and wouldn’t forward it on to my ortho group so I had to come back the next day (with a broken foot and crutches) and retrieve it myself.
Bottom line — staff seemed rude and more concerned with payment than providing care. The care itself was mediocre and lazy. Will not be returning and I urge you to go elsewhere.
One plus is they did have free refreshments, so there’s that. Also, rooms have TVs in them which is nice (even if it is always on real housewives of orange county).

Dr. Coughlin was terrible. Took my 3-​year old here for finger X-​rays while travelling to Austin.
Made an appointment, arrived on time and we were taken back within 10 minutes. We were then told we would have to wait another hour to see the Doctor. It was not busy we were the only patients I saw in the facility.
An hour and fifteen minutes later Dr. Coughlin entered the room with the smell of cigarette smoke preceding him. He did nothing to address my daughter. He seemed offended that my daughter did not want him to touch her – I didn’t want him to touch her either. The only time he attempted to actually look at her finger was when he leaned into me, reached over my chest, and looked at here hand as she sat on my hip on the other side of me.
His diagnosis – just a bruise – went against every maternal instinct that I had but I accepted it in the interest of not having to stand in close quarters with this creep’s arms reaching around me anymore. The next day a different doctor called with a follow-​up diagnosis – it was a break after all. Duh!
What a waste of money! What a violating experience for me and my daughter.

Just moved to Austin, don’t have a GP yet, came here to deal with a medical issue. This was literally the worst care I’ve ever received from a doctor in the 32 years I’ve been alive. Dr. Kelly treated me like I didn’t matter, acted like she was afraid of my body, tried to discharge me without ever giving me a diagnosis and ultimately diagnosed me incorrectly because she hadn’t even really looked at me. This is deplorable and inexcusable and I suggest that if you’re looking for a doctor you go anywhere but here.

I’ve been here twice– once for what I thought could be a gallbladder issue, and once for a rash o had on my face. Staff was nice enough, and I was accepted into the back quickly enough, but both times I was left waiting for over 45 minutes during what seemed like a slower day. Dr spoke with me for about 3 minutes total and sent me home with cortisone cream.

Between strep throat and pink eye, this has been our go to place the past four weekends!!! We’ve been out in under 45 mins every time. The service has been great and my kids love they can watch cartoons while waiting for the doctor. Highly recommend.

Urgent care without the stress of a hospital.
I had a bizarre allergic reaction that turned my face into a nightmare of «Fiona the Ogre meets Bozo the Clown» so needed something to deflate my face. I went to MedSpring and without an appointment, and they saw me within 15 minutes — I was super surprised about how quick these guys are. The staff was helpful and the doctor was able to treat me quickly. Much better than spending a couple hours in a danky stanky waiting room for mediocre service.

I had a GREAT experience with this location. Went to another ‘fast’ clinic at a drugstore and they had a 2+ hour wait. I couldn’t wait that long, so visited the S. Lamar location for the first time. I was in, seen and checked out within 30 minutes! I saw a MD and not a PA. Got a good diagnosis and they transmitted my prescription electronically. All medical records are also electronic. Great place. I recommend MedSpring.

Absolutely the worst treatment and service I have ever experienced. Unless you have a basic cold or injury I highly recommend staying far away from this place.

I recently went to this clinic and have gone to different clinics over the years because I get sick on Sunday. I had a good experience both times I went. I have medicare and they accepted it and charged me nothing, I also had a chest x ray. The doctor I had listened to me and helped me the best he could in my situation. I got anxiety after being home and called the clinic and they responded and changed a prescription for me. I went back again to double check my problem and they were very reassuring after checking me again and my progress. I have been to several other clinics in the South Austin area and I found this to be the best for me. Victory charged me with my medicare insurance, and the old clinic on South Lamar near Peoples, well the last time I went there it was a nightmare. I do have a doctor but when this started he could not get me in. My neighbor went to this clinic first and also liked the doctor. You just have to take a chance everything is not always the same, but my experience was that they did listen to me and today I feel much better.

I was sick for about a month with what I thought were normal seasonal allergies. After a bout of dizziness I finally went to this urgent care clinic because it was up the street. Got there place was empty I was taken back right away. Nurse came and took medical history which was good because I have other health conditions. Exam room was clean with a couch and television. It took almost an hour for the doctor to come in but after talking with her I could see why. She made sure to go through each of my symptoms one by one and did not just dismiss them as allergies. She looked in my ears and found I had an ear infection that was causing the dizziness. She gave me some good advice about how to help with allergies including using a nettipot over antihistamines. Filled all my prescriptions really quick they send them electronically. I am not sure on the cost as I had already met my insurance deductible and had no co pay. Overall if I cannot get to the doctor I would certainly go there with minor emergencies.

I went in for strep throat. The wait time was minimal which I appreciated. The doctor came in, didn’t even wash his hands, and tried to shake my hand. Performed a physical exam still without washing his hands. The nurse came in to take a swab. He never washed his hands. He didn’t even put on gloves before taking the swab. He left the room with the tip exposed and even hit the door frame with the tip of what ended up being a strep positive swab. The doctor came back and didn’t wash his hands again. No wonder I was strep positive. I’m starting to wonder with all the cross contamination and no hand washing if I even had strep or the door frame is who really had strep.

I went here when I was in a bind and needed to see a doctor quickly.
The good, they got me in fast.
The bad, the receptionist seemed pretty rude and at one point I thought he was about to get into a fight with another one of the patients regarding signing the disclosure agreement. In general just didn’t seem like a very professionally run organization.

Best patient experience– fast, efficient, convenient and Dr Smith was super friendly, patient and helpful!

This was my first visit to a MedSpring location & my first trip to any kind of urgent care in roughly 10 years or so. I heard that MedSpring was fast, but I didn’t expect to be in and out in less than 15 minutes! Everybody was nice, quick, and efficient. Two thumbs up. :)

Dr. Only was excellent, kind and great bedside manner. Intake was efficient and I rate this Medspring urgent care with 5 stars. I am a health care professional and take great value in colleague professionalism.

After a good old fashioned hot oil to the face cooking snafu, I found myself at this urgent care last Sunday afternoon. The receptionist immediately had me fill out forms and as soon as those were done, she took me straight back to a room — there was zero wait. She was extremely sweet, offering me water, snacks, etc.
The nurse came in within a few minutes and got all the information he needed. The room was spacious and clean. I really appreciated the TV in the room as a nice distraction to the burning feeling I had all over my face/​neck/​chest and worry that I would be permanently scarred. (Turns out I won’t be — hallelujah!)
The doctor (Dr. Patel) came in just a minute or two after the nurse left and looked at the burns and checked my overall health to make sure nothing else was off. He was professional and personable and put me at ease, which I really appreciated.
The receptionist came in and took my copay and once again offered me water, snacks, etc. — very sweet of her. Everything was extremely quick and efficient — I was in and out within 30 minutes.
I also really like that they set you up with an online account, so by the time I arrived home, I had online access to the doctor’s notes /​visit summary.
It’s more expensive than a doctor’s visit so I wouldn’t come here for everyday doctor visits, but any time I’m needing urgent care, I will absolutely come here again.

It’s the peak of flu season, my primary doc can’t see me for days, and my usual walk-​in clinic is totally full. What does a girl do?
SO glad I went to MedSpring! I was in and out in under 30 minutes with a prescription for what ailed me. Everyone was friendly, and I waited in a private exam room instead of a gross waiting room full of sniffly strangers. Plus MedSpring accepted my insurance.
This will be my new go-​to clinic, no doubt.

Treat your hypertension with a primary but in a pinch while travelling, this place works for the rapid pulse part
This place took pity on me and helped me out when I was on vacation in Austin. I found out I was having blood pressure and pulse problems before a trip to Austin and was told in an urgent care center in CA to monitor my BP and pulse and record daily. I did that for several days but by the time we got to Austin we realized my BP was frequently over 100 diastolically with a pulse over 100 consistently along with shortness of breath and nervousness and headache. I felt like crap and had for a long time. My eyes were blood shot. I did not realize that all my problems were blood pressure — duh! I thought I was just old.
The staff from the front to the back was efficient and pleasant. The doctor was like most doctors, barely able to tolerate a patient and somewhat condescending, but he did treat me.
Anyway, I was seen quickly at this facility; the Doc (an DO) listened but suggested that we were overly ruminating on the problem (no, I just felt like crap and rarely go to any healthcare because they are all non-​listening jerks and cause more problems than they fix). Anyway, this DO did give me a break and gave a beta blocker due to pulse rate (they do not usually prescribe anti-​hypertensives due to its being a «chronic» problem, not urgent care). Within hours I felt like a new person! This made a huge positive difference. I had thought I was nuts. His deciding to treat me and not blow me off made life tolerable until I could return home and be seen by a cardiologist, whom I had been referred to before my trip (of course, i could not get an appt before my trip!).
The DO at Med Spring gave me info sheets on everything from shortness of breath to anxiety. Whatever, Doctors are mostly all clueless and without empathy but I followed up upon my return to CA and found out from the cardiologist that the tachycardia (really rapid pulse) and consistently untreated hypertension actually caused what appeared to be «emotional» problems. Rather, it was my physical problems taking a toll on my whole emotional and physical health. So get your hypertension treated, people, and treat it yourself with diet, exercise and decent doctors. The onus is actually ypon the «patient/self“because doctors are often condescending and clueless and do not gather enough data to actually solve any problems. So educate yourself. In a pinch, this place is just fine.
Cost here was HALF of what I paid in the Bay Area.

I’ve been in here twice in the past 7 days for an allergic reaction. The first time, the doctor barely looked at me, walked out and sent over a prescription for an antibiotic. I did not think very highly of them. However familiarity prevails, and when the reaction spread, I went back. I got a different doctor (Bob B-​something, I’m afraid I don’t remember it!) and he was great– helpful, thorough and I felt like someone was actually knwoledgeable and in charge of the situation. He changed my meds, answered all my questions and made me feel at ease. I’m so glad I went back and got a different doctor! It all depends on who you get.
In other news, I haven’t been billed yet, so my happiness may be short lived, I will report back.
