I’ve been going to Ellie for months now, and I am very happy every time I leave. I am a new mom, so my salon visit has become my beauty one-​stop-​shop for hair cut, make up and products. Their salon experience is lovely — they offer you a mimosa or delicious hot tea and a free spa service. Also the music is great. This last detail may sound trivial, but I appreciate that they’ve taken the time to curate some good Pandora stations of current artists (all mellow and relaxing) instead of piping in cheesy spa music. I definitely recommend this salon! :)

I am so bad about getting haircuts. I will wait months, I mean like months and months, before I have finally had enough of chopping on my own bangs and make myself schedule an appointment. Maxium FX at the Domain is across from work and since I had been to the other locations before I thought I would try this one.
My appointment was with Ellie. She is the perfect stylist for me. No nonsense, funny, smart. I knew I would like her as soon as we met. I brought a picture in of a rocking hair style I wanted to try. She was completely honest in telling me my hair was a little to fine to pull off that cut, but we could get something close that would look cool. And boy did she.
I promised I woul follow up with her for all my haircuts and I totally will.

First time here and I’m completely impressed! Great scalp massage, bonus hand massage, and Ellie fixed a disastrous cut I received somewhere else. As a bonus– parking is easy and I was able to get a convenient appointment without waiting three weeks for a Saturday.

I came in for a haircut with Ellie while my husband watched a football game in the Domain. It was a great experience! I loved all the special treatments — scalp massage, herbal tea, hand massage. And Ellie taught me a new technique for styling my hair. I recommend this place to anyone!

I’ve been coming here for a few years now and have never been disappointed. It’s a great atmosphere and everyone is super friendly and fun. I trust these women completely. Ellie cuts my hair and does an amazing job, I always look forward to seeing her cause she’s also just a very cool person! Samantha is super sweet, she colors my hair and does a fantastic job. One day when Samantha was out Sterling colored my hair and I loved it. I’m telling you you can’t go wrong!
They always give you a complimentary relaxation treatment, you get to choose from 4 or 5 different options every time you go in. My favorite is the temple massage. I feel like I’m going to fall asleep with my head in the sink! And then, on top of that, they always give you a complimentary hand massage! I’m telling you it’s such a treat to go there. They educate me on how to best take care of my hair, and they recommend products tailored to me but they are not pushy at all. They won’t steer you wrong. Make an appointment, you won’t be disappointed.

This is my go to salon. I’ve been going to them for a long time but it wasn’t until I found Ellie that I decided they will have me as a customer for as long as she is there.
I love that you can get tea and small spa treatments during your appointment. And Ellie always gives me great hair cuts. She also doesn’t try to push products on me like some salons. She will mention them but doesn’t push them.

I went in today with extremely frizzy and unkempt hair and came out looking great !!! Ellie did an amazing job on my hair and she is great to talk as well!!! i am new to the city and this was my first time at MFX. The complimentary hand massage and warm towel wrap were add on surprises. I am definitely going back in the future!

I started going to this Aveda salon about 8 months ago, because I was looking for a new Aveda salon. Samantha did and does my highlights every 6 – 8 weeks and even did my make-​up at my appointment in August. She is a great hair colorist and make-​up artist. Melissa cut my hair and she really listens and is fun to be around.
Besides, I enjoy getting the extras, for example: the tea, the hand massage and scalp massage (1 of the extras you can pick).

I had my hair done by Sterling Saturday! I received highlights and I absolutely love, love, them. I have some gray coming in and, she did an amazing job! I definitely will be back! Samantha cut my hair and it is the best haircut I have had in two years.

I went in today and had orangish yellow hair and had high hopes of being a blonde babe…
Well! Sterling made my dreams come true! She was super professional and thorough and made me love my hair for the first time in 3 years.
I cannot say enough amazing things about her. I will definitely be back in the future!

I had a very unfortunate hair accident at another salon that I had been frequenting. My hair was FRIED and looked really bad. I sported a lot of pony tails and braids for about a month. I went into MFX yesterday and my hair looks awesome. I had Ellie cut and style my hair… she really did a fabulous job. She cut of the fried bits off my hair but still left as much length as possible. I have long hair, curly hair so I keep my hair long. I am incredibly pleased with how my hair turned out. A huge plus — Ellie is super easy to chat with and lets you know exactly what she is doing with your hair. I will definitely recommend Ellie to my friends.

Went to the salon on recommendation of a friend. So glad that I did. They made me feel like a queen with special surprises like a temple message and a hand message while hair was being cut. I love my new cut. I watched other people getting cuts around me and they were all all wonderful. This salon finally is the one that I will use for a long time

I started coming here a few months ago to have a salon closer to my house. Ellie is my stylist and does an awesome job cutting my hair. Plus, she’s super fun and friendly to chat with. She even sent me thank you card after my first visit — how cool is that? I definitely recommend Ellie if you’re looking for a great haircut!

I have been a client since they were Kisma, then bought out by Maximim FX. The first place was warm, friendly, inviting & always a great experience. I moved when they did thinking it would still be a great experience. It definitely was not. Maximum is cold, the staff was rude, but I still loved my stylist, so I stayed. The last straw was when my stylist left. When I called for her they refused to tell me where she went. (I tracked her down though & finally found her– Lee is now at Theory). I have since found out that they even lied about not knowing where she was. It you want a cold, unfriendly environment where you are greeted by rude people then maybe this place is for you. If you want your service to be provided by people who think it’s ok to be eating pizza while doing their job right next to you then check this place out. As Kisma they were awesome. As Maximum FX they are terrible.

My experience was amazing. Needless to say my haircut is awesome and exactly what I asked for. The extras as so unexpected. I choice the eye treatment and now my eyes feel less puffy. Before we started I got a scalp massage, we all know during the shampoo is a scalp massage (again), during the dry I got a hand massage. So when I was all done I look and feel incredible. I am so going back. I wish they had a domain resident discount but honestly for all the extra services it was still less than my last visit to another salon. If you haven’t tried it I highly recommend you do.

I have used Raquel asy stylist for many years now and won’t go anywhere else ! She’s amazing and the staff here is great!

I loved this place! As soon as I walked in I was warmly greeted by the front desk clerk who offered me a hot tea or coffee. I waited only a couple of minutes before my hairstylist, Molly, assisted me. I came in for a shampoo, cut, and also enjoyed a relaxing face mask and scalp massage. She explained all of the products she was using on my hair efficiently, and I left with great haircut. I love this place and can’t wait to return!

Cassie is awesome! I do not color my hair. I repeat, I do not color my hair! I’ve never wanted the maintenance of it (and cost!). Well, I recently had a baby and was heading back to work after my 3 month maternity leave. I needed a refresher. When I arrived I met Cassie and we decided on full highlights. We went with a caramel color highlight (I have dark brown hair), so its very blended and natural (no skunk streaks here!) I love it, and although I will have to keep up with it I’m looking forward to a couple hour «mommy vacation» to the hair salon every few months! :)

I’ve had a regular stylist at another salon for over 5 years, but the past several cuts haven’t been great. On a whim, I thought I’d check out Maximum FX at the Domain, which is just across the street from where I work. (Before I made an appt, I checked here on Unilocal for reviews and was puzzled not to find any — turns out the salon used to be «Kisma» on Research until this past December; I did, though, find other reviews, on another review site, for MFX at this new Domain location — based on good reviews for Lee, I chose her as my stylist and booked online.)
Let me start with the most important thing: How I felt at the end of my first appointment with Lee at the Domain’s Maximum FX — GREAT! It has been YEARS since I walked out of a salon tossing my hair, feeling sassy, touching my hair all the way home — then, once home, getting up frequently to go check out my new haircut in the mirror. I’d seriously thought: «Well, maybe now that I’m in my 40s, my hair just isn’t going to look that great any more, and I’m just not going to feel happy after a fresh cut any more…» Wrong! After today’s cut, I realized that it was just my former stylist and I who had gone stale — Lee’s cut was the breath of fresh (h)air that I needed!
FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT THE CUT ITSELF AND LEE’S METHODS: I brought her a picture that I’d found online, and she noticed immediately that it was similar to the cut I had but also pointed out what about the photo-model’s hair texture was different from mine and just how close we’d be able to get. She then had me hold up a mirror to view the sides/​back of my hair as she asked about how much of a bob, what angle to the front I wanted, etc., and described how she would be able to correct what was not great about my last cut. She also asked, intelligently, if I wanted a «low-​maintenance» or a «high-​maintenance» cut; she had me describe how I usually styled my hair and we then agreed that a «low-​maintenance» cut would be the best for me (since I don’t use a straight-​iron or curling iron but just blow-​dry mornings).
During the cut and blow-​dry, Lee was careful, precise, attentive. Unlike my former stylist, Lee didn’t spend time chatting/​gossiping across the room with her co-​workers. She was completely focused on MY hair, which was very much appreciated. At the end of the session, she again had me hold up a mirror to view from all angles, explaining what she’d done, what products she’d used, etc. (No hard-​sell, just helpful information.) As I mentioned above: I walked out feeling terrific.
OVERALL ATMOSPHERE OF THE SALON AND PERKS: Upon walking in the door, I was shown a card listing 4 complimentary services and asked which I’d prefer while having my hair done: Choices included a soothing eye treatment, a hand massage, aromatherapy, etc. I chose the aromatherapy, but also later during the cut was offered a hand massage, as well. While being shampooed, I was asked about my neck comfort, the temperature of the water (such concern isn’t always a given!). AND I got a scalp massage. Checkout at the end was professional and pleasant, with questions about my satisfaction, etc. Overall, the salon’s atmosphere was low-​key and, again, pleasant — unobtrusive music in the background, people (stylists and customers) going about their business sans loudness or drama… I liked being there a lot.

I love this place. I have been going here regularly for a year. They used to be called «Kisma» and were located on Research blvd. But they have since changed the name due to new management and relocated to The Domain. Most of the staff is the same.
My favorite stylist is Lee. If you want a trendy, sexy, chic haircut, ask for Lee and you’ll be in good hands. I had long hair for years and I wanted a pixie. She did such an amazing job, I love it!
