Dr. Robert L. Machen has been in private practice for over 12 years. He and his outstanding team of dental professionals moved to a new state of the art facility in early 2010. It is one of the few offices in the central Texas area equipped with the latest in digital CT scan radiography. Dr. Machen is highly skilled in all areas of periodontal surgery including dental implants, gum grafting, esthetic crown lengthening, extractions, sinus augmentation, bone grafting and laser periodontal surgery. Dr. Machen continually stays abreast of developing dental technology and techniques. He shares his knowledge with dental colleagues in the area by hosting a study club which meets monthly.

Education:

Dr. Machen received a B.S. in biology from Texas A&M University. He obtained his D.D.S. degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center Dental School in San Antonio. After dental school, he completed a General Practice Residency at the Audie Murphy VA Hospital in San Antonio. He then attended Baylor College of Dentistry where he completed his residency in Periodontics, and obtained a Masters of Science degree in Oral Biology.

Professional Associations:

Dr. Machen is currently a member of the American Academy of Periodontology, Southwest Society of Periodontology, American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, as well as the Capital Area Dental Society. Dr. Machen is the Director of the Central Texas Study Club (an affiliate of the Seattle Study Club), a professional organization designed to promote dental education.

Dr. Machen’s office is clean, his workers professional and his work superb. I had 2 implants done in his office and am thoroughly grateful for the experience. Having gone about 2 years without any back molars was very difficult. I can now chew food again without having to use my front teeth to carry out an exercise that was designed for my back teeth! Very satisfied with the outcome.

My experience for an implant with Dr. Machen was outstanding!
I have needed this implant for a while but have hesitated to do it until my first visit with Dr. Machen.
His staff is professional and Dr Machen’s demeanor is very calm, confident and comforting. The surgery was exactly as he described. They showed me the implant via an x-​ray, the before and after, as soon as the work was complete. The recovery and healing time had zero surprises. I needed a bone graft and its settled in as well.
I would highly recommend him and his team! The best dental/​medical experience so far in my 20+ years in Austin!

I’ve had two implants done with Dr. Machen in a period of 4 years. Both times I had the best experience you could have when getting an implant. Dr. Machen is precise, thorough and keeps you well informed as to what is going on. My surgeries we’re seamless and my teeth look great. All the staff are friendly and knowledgable and help put your mind at ease. Highly recommend this practice!

I had a great experience at Dr. Machen’s office. My #12 tooth was suffering from root resorption. He explained my options, and I chose to have an implant put in. The procedure went well. Dr. Machen called himself the next day to check on me. Everything healed like it was supposed to. When I did have a concern, they got me in right away to check, but all was good. Six months later, the new crown is in, and it looks beautiful (it is visible when I smile). Dr. Machen answered all my questions and his office staff was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Dr. Machen came highly recommended from my dentist, who said if he needed an implant, he would go to Dr. Machen himself.

I had a terrible experience. The only positive is he’s a very good looking Dr. He did his surgery and it wasn’t successful but they kept my money and now I’m having to pay another $ 3500 do fix it. Remember they don’t warranty their work. Plus the graft they did died in my mouth and I kept calling the office to tell them about the death odor in my mouth and they told me that was normal healing. They would not let me come back in to show the Dr. I finally walked in and demanded to see the Dr. and no apology but yes it did die,. That was it. Now I called to have my records transferred which they said they would do and they didn’t send them. My dentist recommended him and he also saw that it was unsuccessful and tried to act like nothing happened and he acts like oh well I did what I could so I also left his office.
