Ok so all the hype of this place is not what it made out to be. We came on a Saturday for one there was no side no beef ribs which everyone talks about does not have any service sucked brisket had no flavor will never be back here Aaron Franklin BBQ is 100% better even the owner did not come out to see how things where

Though they ran out of many things by the time we arrived for lunch(around 2:30), what we got to try was amazing. I love how the Cole slaw is spicy and the potato salad is tasty. We didn’t get to try any bbq sauce, but the meat was flavorful enough! I honestly liked this brisket better than franklin’s. Not nearly as fatty and didn’t make me feel too sick and full afterwards(though I did have more than my fair portion). We also tried the pork ribs, which were excellent also, and the pulled pork, which was probably my least favorite. I would recommend not coming here at this time on a Monday, as it is the day before they close to restock, which explains the lack of choices. I will say though that what we tried was definitely amazing and maybe even the better of the Texas bbq’s I’ve tried!

Needed to get some good BBQ while in town for a conference without time to wait in a 3 hour line. Had about a ¼ lb of everything on the menu with the people I was with. Highly recommend brisket and the Sriracha slaw. Part of the experience was also John who told us to «sit the hell down and get comfortable» and gave us a bit of a good natured hard time when we arrived a few minutes before they opened. Would go again. Highly recommend.

IMHO the best in town. It’s a matter of whether you like filet mignon vs. New York Strip. I can’t choose. Some days I like a buttery filet, but more often than not, I prefer the mouth watering strong flavor of a NY Strip. That’s Mueller’s to me. See the other posts for tips, you can’t go wrong with just ordering the brisket, but the sausage was also delicious.

We are on a tour of Texas BBQ. This place is amazing. The pulled pork sandwiches are a must. Best pulled pork sandwiches I’ve ever had. John Mueller was there and came over to meet us. He is one of the nicest guys ever. The beef short ribs are a must and the brisket! The brisket fell apart and melts in your mouth. The spicy coleslaw is out of this world delicious. We will most certainly be back!

With limited time in Austin, I was torn about what BBQ I wanted to try and really how long I wanted to wait in line. I decided to go with John Mueller and was not disappointed. –Bring ca$h. They have a card machine but it was down during my visit so take the precaution of having cash on hand. –Free street parking available. –I got here around 10:40am on a Monday and there were a handful of people in line already. –Grab a tray when you get to the window. –Meats are priced by the pound. It really depends on the weight of one rib, one link, or cut of brisket. I think our rib weighed just over 1 lb. –I was not sure how much meat I wanted to order. When I got up to the window, the staff was extremely nice and helped me figure out how much to order. I was given samples of the brisket, shown how large the ribs were, and had my hot link chopped up in coins. –I ordered the beef rib, moist + lean brisket, and the housemade hot link. I loved everything and the bark on that meat — wow. The meat was so tender and pulled apart so easily. I eat a lot of sausages/links and that hot link had amazing flavor and snap. –There are sides to order in 3 sizes. We had the sriracha coleslaw and cheesy squash. Both had good flavor but I was sad to find they were over salted. –They will offer you bread and BBQ sauce, and there are pickles(also too salty) and onion pieces up at the window to add to your tray. — They also sell drinks and there’s a bar behind the truck. –Otherwise, bring some water or a beverage of your choice. –If eating at the picnic tables outside the truck, I suggest bringing your shades, hand wipes, and perhaps a hat. –Bus your table.

John Mueller was a decent surprise for me. It’s hard to believe a small dumpy trailer way east has good barbecue. I went on a weekend during SXSW and every barbecue joint in town had lines out the door. I decided to try something new and landed at John Mueller. I ordered a brisket sandwich and was given a ridiculous amount of brisket. The brisket was amazingly smoked, tender, and juicy. The barbecue sauce there was a bit interesting in that it was a sweet tomato soup base. Not a huge fan but definitely an interesting take on the traditional vinegary sauce. The line here might not look like much but it takes a good amount of time to move through. Typical wait is about 30 minutes on the weekend.

Well after going to Salt Lick and Franklin. I decided to check out the John Mueller Meat Company. It is not fancy or large. It is basically a Food truck with a large piece of property to have tables. I got the Brisket, Beef Rib, Sausage, and Cheese Squash. 1. The brisket was damn good! It had all the flavor of a well done low and slow pepper brisket and would stack up very close to Franklin BBQ briskets other than being a little heavier on pepper. But that Umami buttery fat flavor is all there and amazing. 2. The Beef rib was by far the best I have ever had! Falling off the bone with crazy good flavor! Next time I will get a full LB(which would be 2 ribs.) 3. The Sausage was solid but nothing amazing. 4. The Cheese Squash was a secret highlight because I don’t like squash but the cheese was so good and heavy it was like eating Mac and Cheese with Squash instead of noodles. The other bonus point goes to the sauce they have which is more of a liquid mixture of spices and meat drippings that makes a great jus that is not overpowering. J.Mueller should be a go to if you don’t want to stand in line at Franklin’s. I would put this place in my top 10 of best places I have ever eaten for sure.

All I can say is «WOW!» By far the best BBQ pork ribs in Austin! The meat is pull apart moist and the peppered bark is to on point. They also have the two best sides at any BBQ joint in Austin– Cheesy Squash and Sriracha Coleslaw. I wish I had gotten to try their famous homemade sausage and the brisket, but they were sold out of both.

Coming from a KC bbq gal, this was some super great bbq! It is a food truck with a wood chip seating area with picnic tables with umbrellas and the store around the back sells beer if you’re looking for a drink. I was sad they were down to one side option, but the siracha coleslaw was delicious. I opted for the pork shoulder and the guy gave me a taste of brisket while he got my meal… holy cow!(No pun intended) I’ll probably be having the brisket next time, but the pork shoulder was amazing, too. In fact, I’ll be back many a time.

I can now officially say I’ve eaten the holy trinity in my opinion of Austin BBQ. Mueller, Franklin, and LABBQ are all in their own class. Loved the brisket and pork here and the sirracha slaw is fantastic. You can’t go wrong at any of these places but the brisket here is certainly top notch

Finding good BBQ in the late afternoon can sometimes be a challenge, but at John Mueller Meat Co. we didn’t have that problem. Admittedly, after 7 stops we were tired and starting to fill up at this point, but if John is still open and has food to sell, who are we to deny him the opportunity to sell it to us? We arrived about 4:00 pm, just as their day was ending. This brisket was excellent and still moist and tender late in the day. The bark had a nice crunch and the flavor penetration was perceptible throughout. This ranked right up there with the best brisket of the trip. No doubt about it – when John Mueller is on his game, his product is hard to beat. We look forward to a return visit soon, and will make sure it’s earlier in our trip so we have more time to sample the complete menu.

Without a doubt a top tier bbq joint. I’ve heard a lot of great about J mueller and finally decided to make the trek. The brisket was unbelievable. He gets the fat so well rendered and gets an amazing bark and crunch on the outside. The sausage was amazing. Some of the best I’ve had and my pork rib was done extremely well. The sides were nothing special and the sauce is definitely untraditional, but I enjoyed it. The best thing of this all? There was zero wait. That is something that you just can’t say for nearly all top tier bbq restaurants. Well done John mueller.

Ok… So the line at Franklin’s BBQ was just outside the door, but still an incredible 2 ½ hour wait(Huh?), so I fired up Unilocal!to find the closest BBQ with good ratings nearby… I ended up here! «Here» is a trailer behind a bar(that probably should be the highlight of this review). They seem to have setup overnight on a lot where they’ve thrown down some wood chips, several picnic tables, a couple porta-potties and their smoking equipment. I guess this is Austin-chic? Whatever… Good BBQ is what I was after! I ask how the Brisket looks today and the young guy slicing says«Good… Really good» so I order ½ pound. I get a side of sriracha coleslaw. The trailer they’re operating out of is filthy… So I’m hoping that whatever I can/could catch as a result of eating here gets killed straight-away by the sriracha! He bags up my stuff and I’m off to the bar for a beverage(You’ll have to go there too if you want something to drink). I make my way back to the picnic area and dig in… My ½ pound of brisket has ¼ pound fat… Not what I was hoping for. The meat was good, like fork-tender good. But the stars(there were 2 in addition to the bar) of the experience were the sriracha coleslaw(my mouth was smoking for miles afterward) and their BBQ sauce(a peppery concoction that still has my salivary glands going crazy!) 4 star deduction for the brisket fat(trim that sucker!) and +1 for sale and +2 for the sauce. Lock your doors and roll over here… You might want to try the turkey(it looked awesome!) Here’s the rundown: Satisfied? Yes/No Return? No Advocate? Yes/No

After going to about 4 other bbq trucks in search of Beef Ribs at 1 pm on a holiday weekend, we came here. We had already gotten a bunch of meat from elsewhere, so we only tried the Beef Ribs and Pork Shoulder. Compared to all the other options in Austin, these were probably my least favorite Beef Ribs. They were not that flavorful or tender, in my opinion. I traveled with a group of 7 others, and everyone felt like this was their least favorite as well. The Pork Shoulder was more fat than meat, which I was not a real fan of either, not sure if it was just my piece/cut or if that’s just how it is. Because there are so many other great places for barbecue, I am judging them a little harder — and we only tried the Beef Ribs and Pork Shoulder. But honestly, I liked the quality of meat at Terry Black’s better and there was no line there, and there are indoor tables with AC to sit at … just saying. I would not come back here again or recommend this place to others.

There is no doubt in my mind that this is the best BBQ in the entire world. The brisket is good on a level that I cant even explain. its so peppery and smoky at the same time. The sausages are always amazing and when he has boudain you need to try some because its equally as awesome as everything else. This review is hard for me to write because all I have to say is that everything is amazing… I will make a special mention of the sriracha cole slaw. its such a good side. its so good I could almost just eat it and forget about the bbq, The employees here are sooo nice, I never have an issue ordering if I am confused they help me and set me straight and sometimes when I get to the counter I almost feel like they know what I want before I tell them. Oh I almost forgot about the beef ribs. these beef ribs are cave man good! Get one you wont regret it. its so smoky and tender. I’ve never experienced anything like it!

It was 30 something degrees outside and rainy. On a whim one afternoon between errands Steve H. and I decided to finally check out John Mueller Meat Company. We were hoping that due to the weather there probably wouldn’t be too many people there today and some BBQ left over. Luck was in our favor — we walked up and there was no one there except the workers inside the trailer trying to stay warm. They were super happy to see us! The employees were so nice to us, again probably because we were the only ones there on this cold, rainy day. We ordered brisket, a beef rib and sausage. They threw in the boudain because they loved our congenial personalities. I was intrigued by the siracha cole slaw so we got a side order of that too. Steve H. and I sat in the cold under the tent and enjoyed the hell out of our lunch. It was worth sitting in the cold for. It would have been worth waiting in line for if I had to also. That brisket was absolutely the best in the whole town! The siracha cole slaw was AMAZING! Everything was perfect on our cold, rainy day. John Mueller is my #1BBQ spot! I can not wait to go back!

Not too shabby :) This place has some pretty good barbecue. They even let you try some little samples before you make your order. Pros: + SHORT wait time. Maybe 10 minutes? Compare that to hours and hours. + Meat is juicy. I recommend the pork shoulder and brisket. The ribs were a little dry to me Cons: — Not the tippy top best BBQ in Austin but it’s definitely a runner up contender. — I did not enjoy their sauce at all. — If you don’t finish, there’s no to go containers. Tips: + Cash only + Price is per HALF Lb + Bring your own drinks
