I was visiting Austin for Memorial weekend from LA and this is where I was taken for my very first meal. We had the brisket sandwiches — both versions — with potato salad. [I am a big BBQ enthusiast and make it a point to patronize the Korean AYCE places that sprout up all over here in LA.] The comfortable benches and the overall low-key vibe contributed to that down home ambience that’s sorely lacking in trendy LA hotspots. The brisket was fall-off-the-bone tender and just absolutely heavenly. My only regret is not buying more sausages to go. All I can say is this is one of the best I’ve ever had.

This is a solid 4.5 on the verge of 5 for me. I first experienced Smokey Denmark during last year’s Austoberfest. Out of roughly 15 different sausages, Smokey Denmark’s were far and above mine and my friends’ favorites. Since then I’ve wanted to try their trailer, but it unfortunately took me almost 7 months to do so. Here’s what I can tell you, the BBQ here can compete with some of the best in Austin, but without the insane lines. Their moist brisket is fantastic and even better when dipped in their thin, yet molasses rich bbq sauce. Their smoked chicken is excellent. Their boudin sausage and jalapeño cheese sausages are some of the best sausages I’ve had in town(Bangers could really learn a thing or two from these guys on how sausages should/can be done). Their mustard is pretty darn tasty as well. The only thing I wouldn’t waste your time or stomach space on is their pulled pork. It’s not awful, but the other items are just in another league. Their German potato salad is great as was their coleslaw. To top it all off, Keenan and Alex are super nice and the eating area for this trailer is clean, shaded, and tranquil. I would recommend coming early as they sell out of some items fairly quickly. Their hours aren’t the most convenient, unless you live/work near by, but when craving top notch easy to procure bbq, I’ll definitely come here.

This trailer is pretty close to my new place and it always smells amazing. Today when I walked over for lunch they were already out of what I wanted most(chicken salad sandwich is delicious) so Keenan and Alex recommended the Texas Ruben. Now I will admit that the ruben at Live Oak Market holds the keys to my heart, but Smokey’s is a very close second. Well done, fellas! I’ll absolutely be back for more. Customer service and selection can’t be beat.

I had some extra time to kill and happen to be in the area of this place. Thought I would give a shot. I must say, I was very impressed with the quality of smoked meat they were putting out of this trailer. The brisket was as good as any brisket I’ve had in the area. That includes all of your favorites(Franklin’s, Mueller’s, Black’s, etc.). I tried their Georgia Red Barked chicken. It had a perfectly crispy skin with delicious smoked dark meat chicken underneath. Their pulled pork, with complementary slaw topper was out of this world. It was some of the best pork shoulder I’ve had in a while. Their beans were good, but not my style. Not going to knock them for that. The smoked and pickled jalapenos were quite a treat and a perfect balance to compliment the smoked meats. There were also homemade pickles and pickled carrots. All in all, if your looking for some barbecue off the beaten path, go check these guys out. They’re doing great work.

One of the best Pulled pork sandwiches I’ve ever had. Truly amazing. Got the slaw on top. This place is a must for Central Texas BBQ fans. German potato salad is on-point too. Huge portions.

I stopped by for lunch and had a sliced brisket sandwich, a jalapeño cheese sausage link and the warm german potato salad with bacon. Everything was very good. The bread was fresh and soft, the brisket was exceptionally moist and flavorful and on par with the top tier stuff around town, the homemade looking pickles and pickled jalapenos and onions were terrific. The sauce came in a tiny cup, and I really could have used about 5 more of them to be honest as the sandwich has none already on it. The sauce was a bit on the thin side and kind of simple with a tomato base. The sausage was flavorful and had a really nice snap and you get the option of getting a slice of bread or tortilla to have it with, and they serve it with what seems to be a homemade mustard which had outstanding flavor. I’m not typically a big potato salad fan, and since they aren’t making the jalapeño creamed corn during this season I’m told, I opted for that and it was enjoyable. Overall, you can tell these people know what they’re doing. The make fantastic brisket which make for great sandwiches. Good snappy links with fantastic mustard and quality sides. I most definitely will be back to try more of the menu, and if not for the $ 16+ price tag on my lunch, which is also the only reason I’m not quite giving them 5 stars, I’d be there often. Friendly service and they have a nice little picnic table seating area and even on a Thursday at 12:30 I didn’t spot a single other customer which was surprising given the reviews and quality of the place. Definitely a little bbq hidden gem.

If your looking for more than just regular bbq, Smokey Denmark is the place to go. They always have different sausages, for instance today they’re featuring a Mole Sausage and a Mac & Cheese Sausage. Their chopped rib sandwich is a must! The food trailer is separate from their meat market, so be sure and get there before the trailer closes for the day to get a taste of their delicious food.

This place is hands down of of the coolest food trucks I’ve been too and one of the tastiest as well. Reason being they are actually a meat market and have a food truck on the side so they can never run out of any of their meat which to say the least is scrumptious and always juicy! They always ask you how much bark you want and Smokey Denmark’S also makes different sausage creations such as apple pie pork sausage sausage I had in October and mole sausage they are featuring this month. After eating here I was like Franklin who? Don’t think twice this place is ridiculously good!!! They are extremely creative as well which completely sets them apart from all the other so called BBQ Meccas !

Smokey Denmark trailer is probably going to be in my BBQ rotation, quite possibly at the top and I’ll tell you why: variety. Don’t get me wrong the usual BBQ fare is great but I like a bird every once in a while as well as a mixture of sausage offerings, too. Pork apple cinnamon sausage? Boudin? The usual pork and beef sausage can get a bit boring, so when a new one is introduced I jump at the chance to try it. Forget what the WHO said about process foods; it’s done naturally at Smokey Denmark. I also highly recommend the Alabama White sauce chicken. One word to describe it: WOW! And I didn’t even have to travel to ‘bama to get me some. BTW, everything else is scrumptious and delicious.

wow… I’ve had great brisket but… i’ m having a hard time committing saying«it the best»… let me take one more bite… OK …yeah it’s the best… best sausage in Austin for sure… probably 4th best I’ve ever had… this BBQ does not need sauce and that’s good cause the sauce was that thin BBQ aju(sp?) stuff all the kids are into… i didnt see ribs on the menu but who cares with brisket and sausage like that… going to try the pulled pork next they let me sample the corn beef and I hate corn beef… they were so nice and excited I didn’t have the heart… it was OK. and that’s coming from someone who hates it in general. I can see this as being a proud institution that knows what they are doing and I loved it! That being said your sauce does not compliment your style. if you like try this old school German meat market recipie… 8oz. can tomato sauce 5 tbl brown sugar ¼ cup mustard 3 tbsp Louisiana hot sauce 1 tbsp white vinegar 1 tsp black pepper Mix well, do not cook, stir up and serve Also your beef sausage is amazing but you could add some salt and lighten up on the pepper just a tad but it is delicious regardless. best or second best BBQ overall in Austin… its hard to decide. I will be back many many times for the sausage & brisket. if your waiting in line for brisket n beef sausage at 7 am I feel bad for you son I got 99 problems but since I found this place waiting forever ain’t one O:-)

Best kept BBQ secret in Austin. Sliced brisket sandwich is out of this world, and the jalapeño creamed corn is unreal. Grab a seat at the picnic tables under the pecan trees and listen to some live music on Fridays. Hours are a little restrictive, so catch them for lunch Tues-Fri. I have friends that make trips for lunch from Temple and Belton just for their sandwiches.

Had a fantastic lunch from this trailer today. Excellent side of jalapeño corn, and love the cheese jalapeño sausage. Bill, the fellow running the show was super helpful and brought a colorful experience to the lunch. Great to have this new barbecue option on the Eastside. Will be back!

Just caught these guys out at Twisted X brewery. Really great food at reasonable prices. Had the quail and then the boudin sausage. Hard to beat. Keep up the good work!

Overall, I’ve really enjoyed this place. I’ve had the loose and cut brisket sandwiches as well as the jalapeño & cheese sausage. The brisket has a nice flavor to; very savory. The sausage was fantastic! Staff is super friendly. Pricing is on par with other BBQ joints. NOTE: I did not take away points for this. My only complaint are the business hours. This is a foot truck that mainly serves as an additional to the stand-alone distributor, and so the truck has varying hours or is not there at all some days. This is understandable.

Though I had eaten a late lunch, I had to try this. I was visiting Solid Rock Brewing and saw the truck. Everything from the mustard, the carmeized onions, beer soaked sausage were fresh made and delicious. I wish I could tell you more but it was a side encounter and a good one, but I don’t have a lot of notes, except to make a meal of it next time we cross paths… soon. Staff were friendly as well.

This food is to die for!!! My fiancé found this place looking on the map(the store) and when he looked it up discovered they had a food truck. Since he loves BBQ and we were looking for someone to cater our wedding, we decided to give it a try. The food was delicious. The first time I went, we had the double oinker which Bill recommended. It had andouille sausage topped with pulled pork. It was amazing!!! The meat was tender, moist and flavorful. He served it with some slaw which just complemented the sandwich so well! We decided to hire them to cater our wedding and it was a hit! We also asked them if they could make the oinker part of the menu that night and they were very accommodating. Everyone had seconds and raved about the quality, flavor and portions they received. The service is just the cherry on top of the awesome sundae that was having them there. The entire staff is professional, caring and passionate about BBQ and it really shows in the product and their service. They did everything they could to help make my wedding amazing! As I’m writing this review I’m getting hungry and thinking tomorrow might be a good day to go visit them again! ;)

I was near by at another business when I saw the sign for Denmark’s. I hadn’t eaten lunch so I tried it and I’ll tell you straight, it was a treat! I’ve had Franklin’s and LABBQ as well as other well know spots and they have nothing on Denmark’s. I had a simple chopped beef brisket sandwich and it was the best I’ve ever had. I also had cheesy squash which appeared to be a special item for the day. The service was fast and professional. Eating area was clean and well organized. Will I go back? Yeah, I think I’m going back tomorrow, before word gets out and they sprout a 4 hour line.

Smokey Denmark’s Smoked Meats Co. is a sausage making and wild game processing facility on the east side of Austin. They have been around for over 50 years and also sells their sausage to the public on-site. I only found out that they existed a few months ago. Shameful. Now they have a BBQ truck to serve smoked meats from. Pitmaster Bill Dumas is on a mission to stake out a piece of the Austin barbecue pie. I stopped by once on a Friday, but they were out of pork ribs. I was not going be foiled again! This day I ordered my usual Texas trinity of moist brisket, pork rib, and sausage. I also added a link of boudin sausage. The brisket was respectable. Other than the flat being a little chewy, it was cooked well and had decent smoke and bark. I would have like to see a little more rub especially on the bottom of the brisket. The brisket was better than the first time I tried it. They also cut the brisket«correctly» this time by cutting it against the grain instead of with the grain. The rib was meaty with a good flavor. It was a little chewy and hard to bite the meat from bone. For now, the pork ribs are only available on Fridays. The smoked sausage was good and flavorful. It had a good snap, but the texture was what you would expect from a mass produce sausage. I have been on a boudin kick of late. I am trying every single one I run across. At Smokey Denmark’s, they use pork shoulder instead of pork liver in the filling. The casing could barely keep the pork and rice mixture contained. It was dynamite. It had a ton of flavor, and being smoked instead of boiled, added a nice finish to it. I am going to go ahead and add Smokey Denmark’s to my rotation. I had a good meal and did not have any issues. I have tried the pulled pork before and thought it was alright, and the jalapeño creamed corn was not bad either. I did not get a chance to try the jalapeño and cheese sausage this time. I am interested in their Tuesday special which is a taco with a choice of pulled pork or brisket. Go check them out.

I’ve been a fan of Smokey Denmark’s meats for years(and am a friend and fan of the Pace family as well), but was really happy to see that their long dreamed-of food truck is finally open. The weather was perfect today as I sat and had a delicious pulled pork sandwich and creamed corn side. And after you eat you can visit the Meat Market and bring home some packaged products as well. A great addition to the E 5th Street neighborhood.
