Workers were friendly and very helpful. The store was really clean and well lit, they also had great choice of materials

I really enjoy this location, prior to this location opening there was not a Jo Ann near by and they only craft store options were Hobby Lobby and Michaels. I feel this location is much larger so it can hold more items, and they have good sales too. I’ve taken a knitting class here and I really enjoyed that as well. I also come here to buy a lot of fabric and they have a great selection of fabric pieces to choose from. The line to get the fabric cut does back up a lot, but they give you a number so you can still browse the store without losing your place in line. There is plenty of parking out front as well.

I know this place is called Jo-​Ann Fabric and Crafts, but they should have named it Yarn City or Yarn Barn because this place definitely has all the yarn.
I recently, as in the day before yesterday, decided that I was finally going to teach myself how to crochet. I’ve always wanted to make a Harry Potter scarf and now I will finally have the skills to pull it off. Oh, and I really want to be able to make all those adorable little crochet animals. Basically, I want to make all the cute things.
Now, I don’t know a whole lot about crochet or knitting, but I feel like this place has everything you could ever want regarding those two hobbies. They basically had all the things, or what I imagine to be all the things. Maybe some other store has even more things?
They also had a whole bunch of other things, like baking stuff, frames, and holiday decorations. Funny story — it’s only a few days after Christmas and they had decorations out for St. Patrick’s Day. Do you think they have those out year round or do you think they were getting ahead of the game? We’ll find out the next time I go, which will probably be soon because you can never have too much yarn when crocheting.
They seem to offer a lot of coupons, which is awesome because I see myself using them frequently. Gotta collect all that yarn, y’all. Crochet all the things! Ariel, the girl who checked us out, was super friendly and told me that the learn to crochet set I picked up seemed to be pretty good and offered a wide range of crochet needles. Score! Oh, and if you fill out the survey at the end of your receipt, you get a 50% off coupon good for your next visit! Yay!

Came her with wifey yesterday to pick up some foam foundations for to make some cemetery flower arrangements. Found just what we needed at a decent enough price. My wife is a very creative person so we make a few trips annually to this chain and for the most part … it’s all there waiting for us.
They seem to offer a complete line of sewing, crafting & cake decorating materials and we always seem to have a good coupon of some kind. You can choose from what seems thousands of mouldings and mats in many styles and colors. So if it is sewing, knitting, quilting, cake-​decorating, papercrafting or jewelry-​making … probably worth your trip.

If you are a novice, stay away from this place. I just wanted fabric for a valance, but have never done it before. When I asked for help, they said they don’t keep people on the floor to help but if I got a number and stood in line where they cut cloth, perhaps someone could help me. So I got a number and waited in line for 30 minutes before I finally gave up. So if you come make sure you have LOTS of time and that you need no help at all. Also, the people working there seemed unhappy and tired. Just a yucky feel overall.

Great sales but the day I visit, there only seemed to be one woman trying to hold down the fort and she wasn’t having a great time.
I’ve found other locations to be better.

Ack! Avoid this store unless you have lots of time on your hands. We went in to get fabric and there was a long wait to have fabric cut AND a long checkout line. If there hadn’t been two of us we would have likely waited over an hour. As it was with one person waiting for fabric and one waiting simultaneously to check out, it was about 45 minutes. I love Jo-​Ann in general, but not this location!

Oh my, oh my… I entered craft kingdom! This place is great! Endless rows of fabric. Tons of upholstery and all at reasonable prices. I think waiting for it to be cut to your desired size though can be a little daunting and time consuming, but that’s only because there were tons of people in the store.
My favorite section was the baking area. Everything you’d ever want to make a cake, candy, cookies, etc. I entered this area feeling like I’d become a master pastry chef if I bought all the stuff they had.
Beware though that the vastness of crafting ideas can be overwhelming and can suck you in. I came in only for thread & left with décor for Valentine’s, St. Patrick’s and items to make enough fancy cupcakes to feed my whole neighborhood!
The biggest challenge at Joann was the line to check out. At one point I realized there were 21 people in line and only 2 people checking out. I asked a women behind me if this place was always this busy & she said, «yes.» If this place is constantly busy then they need more people working the register because after waiting 15 minutes to check out, my arms full of crafty treasures were feeling like I had lifted a 100 lb weight. So to that I say definitely get a cart!

Huge crafter’s selection. So many crafts are covered in their inventory! Paper crafts, jewelry making, painting, feltwork, scrapbooking, sewing, florals, the list goes on! They have a cool selection of kid’s crafting kits that would make awesome gifts. The prices are kind of high on some stuff, but they always have coupon offers and 50% sales.
The selection of fabrics is ridiculously vast. (Almost makes me wish I knew how to sew.) I went there for some dingle ball trim. They had a big selection of trim, but not blue dingle balls. I still had a good time perusing the cute stuff.
I almost came out of there with the stuff to take up two or three new hobbies. Thankfully, I regained focus in time. I need to finish the 6 or 7 projects I’m already working on. Damn ADD.

Terrible, terrible time trying to sign up for a class (3 visits to store) only to show up on the day to find no class. No one there knew anything about it. Turns out it was cancelled and they called a wrong number to let me know. Didn’t bother to try me by email. Had me sign up for a different class in place of cancelled class then cancelled that class too and called a wrong number again. Really unbelievable experience. There really are no words.
UPDATE: I still cannot reach anyone to get a refund for the twice cancelled class. When I call the store as instructed they tell me they can’t take a message and to call tomorrow. The education person doesn’t answer responses to her initial email about the cancellation. I am so done with this place.

I go here mainly for the Viking shop inside. I have a computerized Viking sewing machine, a serger, and an embroidery machine. I love my machines, but the little buggers require a particular bobbin and needles.
I hate going here. This obviously isn’t the first Viking dealer I’ve shopped, but it’s the most annoying. They’re as annoying about selling you stuff as a used car salesman. I made the mistake of signing up for their mailing list for coupons (which I’ve done at other Viking dealers, no problem), and they wouldn’t stop calling trying to sell me a new machine. Multiple calls a month, sometimes multiple in a week. It finally died down to a call every couple of months, but that was still aggravating. I’m not going to buy a fourth $ 2000+ machine just because you call non-​stop.

Neva is the best! When your want your prints, embroidery work, and artwork to look fantastic… Bring it to Neva. She does great work and has a discerning eye on how things are best presented.
The store otherwise is your typical JoAnns, better than the round rock store!

Today was my first time. And last time. I needed help finding a needle. (I had one with me). But I don’t sew. Or know anything about sewing. Had 2 not friendly/​helpful employees. A customer (guy showed me what I needed. He explained my options. Asked what it was for. Something the staff should have done!!!

This place is huge!!!
I usually shop at the Joann’s on Southpark Meadows & this one can put that store in its back pocket lol. Its at least 2 or 3x the size of the other store.
You’ll find all sorts of DIY material & house decorating stuff (mirrors, pictures, etc)
the staff was really nice. I went on a Saturday though & it was crazy packed. The line to get fabric cut was over an hour long!

Joann’s is the place to go if you need fabric or sewing supplies. Their fabric selection is decent, but I have occasionally had trouble finding what I needed. It’s neat that their staff can likely answer your sewing questions, too.
Otherwise, Joann’s offerings are mediocre. Its craft supply and silk flower selections are passable but not as large as Hobby Lobby’s or Michael’s, and lower quality. And then Joann’s sells all this other home décor stuff that is generally low quality shipped from China type that is very overpriced and then gets marked down. Not my favorite approach. Staff seem to be absent when you need them, except in the sewing section.
When you go, make sure you google «Joann’s coupon», as there is usually a «40% off one item» coupon online that you can redeem on your phone or printout. And they accept competitors’ coupons too.

The selection and pricing is decent at this place. Lots of fabrics to choose from and always many on sale.
My major gripe with this place is the sales staff. I went in over the weekend to purchase a small piece of fabric, less than a yard. While I was waiting for the fabric to be cut, the sales associate told me about a pair of scissors that was on sale. She said they would be great for cutting the heavy duty fabric. How helpful, I thought. Then we move to the check out. She asks if I have a loyalty card. I say no, and no thank you I don’t want one. She went on about how you only need a phone number and its a great deal for coupons… basically implying only an idiot wouldn’t sign up. Then she asked again if I wanted to buy the scissors. Then without asking she shoved more coupons at me at check-​out.
I’m sure the sales associate is just following orders, but I am disgusted by high-​pressure type sale strategies. I also don’t enjoy having coupons shoved down my throat if I don’t want them. While this place is okay there are plenty of other places to get fabric in town and I will take my business elsewhere from now on.

I had to bump them up to 3 stars after a recent interaction. I called the store and spoke to Beth, one of the managers, about my fundraising efforts to make blankets for shelter dogs. I asked if they’d be willing to give me a discount, and Beth offered me an additional 20% off my total purchase! Considering I spent over $ 300, the savings were significant and allowed me to buy an additional 10 yards of fleece, which means 10 more warm puppies. Thanks, Beth, for your generosity.

If you’re going to shop at a «big box» store for sewing items in Austin, this is the best box.
They have a lot of inventory here. Tons of fabric, patterns, and a gazillion specialty items like buttons, zippers, interfacing etc.
ALWAYS USE A COUPON! Seriously, sign up for coupons on your phone (download the Joann’s app) because you can typically save up to 50%.

For noobs like me who’ve never been in a fabric shop, this is how it works: pick some fabric up that you want to cut, take it to the back counter where you take a number. They will call it, you tell them how much you want and they cut and give you a piece of paper of what you got. Then you shop around some more or go check out. Make sure to bring coupons or google one on your smart phone before check out. I steal How Do You Roll’s free wifi and grab some coupons and check out and walk away feeling like I scored an awesome deal!
I think I have the shopping habits of a 50 year old woman.

Joann has really come a long way in the past few years. They have a much larger arts & crafts selection than they used to and I can usually find everything I need. In fact, I’ve found specialty items here that I’ve found at no other store and have even searched for online for years with no luck. I had given up completely ever finding that item and poof there it was right in front of my face on a peg when I wasn’t even looking for it. That made my day! Kudos to Joann for your diverse selection and great coupon offers. They will even take competitors coupons (Hancock, Hobby Lobby and Michaels) with no hassles.

This Halloween I was, how do you say… over-​zealous in my costuming attempts. I was going to make the boy and I into Disney characters, from scratch, because it would a. be fun and b. a lot less expensive than buying costumes (and c. none of the above).
Instead, I spent hours at Joann’s over several trips, purchasing a pattern, fabric, elastics, pins, thread, scissors, and countless other items that looked cute when placed in a circular fashion about my sewing machine, which I learned to thread and which has easy-​to-​follow instructions for when you break the needle, which I did almost instantly upon first use. Luckily for me, Joann’s notions (sewing essential basics) were 40% off, so it was my time to stock up on sewing-​machine-​surrounding what’s-its.
Given all of this unforeseen excitement, you can probably guess I’d be a little peeved about the crazy line I encountered each time I stopped by. This place is ginormous. And I know that they know that Halloween is a crazy little holiday, during which time they sell out of black tulle and white tulle and everything. They should double-​staff this place when they know it’s going to get hectic.
What can we learn from this? If you tally up the time spent on line, and the time and money spent on costumes, you’d understand why I actually tried rubbing the little gold lamp we got for our costumes to see if a genie would appear. I’d have asked him for the effing Jasmine and Aladdin costumes, already-​made, someone to clean up the sewing disaster, threads and fabric in the kitchen, and to never again have the idiot idea to make our costumes a day before we need them because «it’ll be fun.»
