Jack’s New Concept Auto

Really poor service and really terrible prices. If you need a place to rip you off, come to this place. They quoted me a price of $ 107 to diagnose a problem. An hour later they told be it would cost another $ 450 to get to the bottom of the issue. So much for that original quote. Then when I came to pick up my truck the guy at the counter said it would take 1.5 hours to put an oil pan back on. I stepped outside and ran into the mechanic asking him how long it would take. 10 minutes. These guys are bad.

Came in for an oil change and inspection around 215 and was told it was an hour wait so I left and planned to come back. They called me 45 later and told me my car was ready but they recommended a tire rotation. I know they weren’t overselling because I was due for a new one. Took longer than they anticipated (the 30 minute quote turned into an hour) and my car was finished by 4.
Good job but 4 stars because usually my car comes back vacuumed from oil change and the time frame was longer than quoted.
I would come back.

The reason I am a returning customer to this business is because of the great care and service. Jack is one of the nicest and best mechanics I have known. From when you come in he is willing to help you right away and explain everything that he is doing and what he recommends. He goes the extra step to get a great deal on whatever he can and will actually physically show you what he is doing to the car and break down the price. Jack has a great personality and is local, fast, and very good. Highly recommended.

Jack is Jack. Quick car inspection and good customer service. They are not shy about telling you what is wrong with your car and how to get it fixed if you do not want them to do it. They have been around so you know they are not about to rip you off.

Very rude receptionist who is seriously lacking in communication skills. I was quoted a time it would take to do my emissions test, and ended up waiting an extra 45 minutes because the workers were in the middle of a frivolous conversation.
They also charge for you to use debit/​credit, which is ridiculous.

I have been taking my cars here for over ten years and have never had anything fixed twice. Every repair has been solid and reasonably priced. My latest inevitable major repair was my suspension, and Jack’s price was $ 200 less than an area competitor. Rides like a dream.

I’ve never had a «good» mechanic before — no matter what, I always felt that vague sense of unease that I was being taken to the cleaners. Not with Jack’s. Their work is solid, everyone is upfront with you, and I never have to worry I’m being fleeced. I had to get a catalytic converter replaced to pass inspection — Jack fixed it and some other problems for ½ what other places had quoted me.
The only down side is they are so busy, smaller jobs like brakes or oil changes can take a long time. But for major repairs they are 100% the place to go!

I have been using this shop for years and have had nothing but positive experiences. This is a well run shop, always clean and not at all intimidating and the service is great. It’s nice to know that a local run shop can still offer great prices and a helpful staff. Keep up the good work.

Proximity to the Driver’s License place is a plus, but customer service is lacking.
No instruction, no communication, I paid (and was charged extra for using a debit card… who does that anymore?), when I told them I’d need to get my dog out of the car, the retort was rude, and then there goes my car… have no idea how long it takes, where they’re going.
And sure do hope whoever took my car works there! A little bit of effort in the customer’s direction goes a long way.
Came back, I had some plastic chipped off my rear view lights, and he passed me but told me I needed to get it repaired, or next year won’t pass me… how he would remember, don’t know, but IF he threw caution to the wind to pass me, it’s appreciated.

Bet ‘ya didn’t know that if your car did not pass the emissions test, and you make under a certain level of income (which applies to a lot of Austin artist types), you can apply for an assistance program to get your car in shape?

My boyfriend took his car to Jack’s, and they got his car to pass through the assistance program — he didn’t have to pay a single dime.
Unfortunately for me, they do not offer assistance programs for malfunctioning windows or people like me who make «just enough» to be over that line… When the window in my car that stopped working, a few drives in 30-​degree weather with the window all the way down prompted me to take my car to Jack’s.
Diagnosis: broken regulator. Replacement part and labor: $ 350. I found that I could order one online for $ 100-​$ 150, but being that I could not even figure out how to pry open the inside door panel — I guess I’ll just have to shell out $ 250 in labor.
I’d like to say they gave me the deal of the century — I haven’t decided if their prices are fair or if I’ve been ripped off. Wish the cold weather hadn’t «driven» me to desperation…
