Hay Elotes

Really unknown liquidity, clumpy cheese, and not spicy. I’ve had corn in a cup several times and I have to say this is one of the worst. It may be because I went when it was really crowded but the corn didn’t even taste cooked.

I am so happy that I found Hay Elotes. Austin FINALLY has a LEGIT Mexican drink place. I’ve been here twice and both times I came out happy. The mango hill is definitely something to try! Their Elotes are made with white roasted corn, the way it should be made. Prices are a little high, but there is literally no other competition.

Oh my this place is soooo good. Ate there last night for the 3^rd time and still everything i hv eaten there has been the best. I am so in love with this place

I went at lunch time and was in and out pretty quick. I bought a few things on the menu and they were all ok. The snacks are not fresh if you ask me. The corn was not crisp I’m pretty sure it was a reheat from the day before. I was a little disappointed

Went by here about a month ago. And I’m barley getting around to write a review, I got the Mango Hill and my husband got elote and a banana split. Boy did he over do it lol
But my mango hill was amazing! And I love how the corn is white corn, so it still has some bite to it. Best elote in Austin!

Definitely not something you could eat every day.
My first time trying Elotes. Really delicious. So buttery and creamy. So rich.
I would recommend for anyone to try but might want to share a cup with a friend. Its a lot of richness to eat at one time

This is a hit or miss place. It all depends on who prepares your order. The second location opened is a total fail. They do not know how to prepare corn. For the 3^rd time in a month I ordered a corn in a cup. It was very bland and you could tell they barely put any ingredients on it. I asked and she said we made it as usual. So when I got home I took a pic to prove my point… Barely zero of anything!!!

Legit. Cup of corn is so good here, not like that knock off on barton springs. Creamy and lime-​y and spicy and great. Also, the mangonada is fantastic, especially with the kick of sour from the tamarind. Folks are nice and you get your corn quite quickly. They also have a version where they pour the corn in a bag of corn chips (think frito pie) and then on top of everything add that nacho cheese. It looks awful, tastes holy but will make you regret the decision later on. Feelin like a thousand bucks… inside a thousand pounds.

La reputación de Hay Elotes se debe a que vende auténtica botana callejera mexicana: elote blanco en vaso con sus respectivos aderezos, conchitas y duritos preparados, rusas, nieves, etc.
Como mexicano constante y sonante que viene a Austin a pasear un par de días, no tengo motivos para formarme en este venerable lugar, ya que vengo de la meca de la conchita, la salsa botanera y el chile en polvo de mercado. Muy probablemente incluso traigo todo eso en la maleta. Pese a ello, me formé en Hay Elotes para acompañar a amigos mexicanos residentes en Austin a los que la nostalgia por el carb mexicano les afecta mucho. Ya estando en la fila, descubrí que, además del street snack mexicano tienen curiosidades que no hay en mis tierras. Pedí una nieve de coco con trozos de piña, crema, chispas de colores y un jarabe azul que de tan rica se veía ilegal.

One of my favorite quick bites in Austin. Always get the Elotes. I mean who doesn’t love corn in a cup? And Hay Elotes makes it with white corn, like the mexican staple should be made. Leave your yellow corn at home people! I always have to ask for extra chili, but really I have to do that just about everywhere.
It’s a little ran down and rough looking, but really no one is here for the 5 star atmosphere, we’re here to shove mexican street foods into our mouths! The only draw back is the line, which isn’t super long, but I have yet to go there and there not be a line. But that’s even more proof that Hay Elotes know what they’re doing.
Nothing is quite as perfect on a hot day as a Mangonada and Mangonadas don’t come quite as perfect as the ones here. Show up, enjoy the food, enjoy the company. The perfect stop for a snack or quick meal in the summer

Decided to check this place out while stopping by Austin. It’s a very small shack with little AC. It gets packed, so be prepared to wait! I ordered the 16oz elotes. Getting 16oz really isn’t necessary unless you really really really love corn. 12oz would be suffice to share, and 8oz for yourself. They use white corn rather than yellow corn — making the corn a little bit harder /​more chewy. They also add A LOT of cheese! I’m more used to softer corn in a cup, so this was a bit of a surprise to me. Not sure if I’d come back here for the corn, but the other snacks here definitely look promising!

Me and my husband just came back from a trip and wanted to get a light snack. Hay elotes was on our way back home. The place is little hard to find, so keep looking while you drive slowly :)
We ordered elotes, hot and sour Cheetos and mangolada
Elotes were perfect– we skipped the mayonnaise, but corn with cheese, butter and seasoning tasted great.
Hot and sour Cheetos: I have always loved popcorn and pickle, so wanted to give this a try. It tastes great for a couple of bites, but It is a huge portion. I love sour things, but this was too much after while. Make sure you share it with a friend if you are trying it for the first time.
Mangolada: very refreshing drink. Mango with chamoy sauce and a tamarind straw. Sweet tamarind mixed with chilli powder and salt went really well with mango. Who would have expected :)
service was great. Everyone was friendly and seemed passionate about what they were doing.
Ps: please don’t wear white when you visit. Everything is huge and chances of spilling are very high ;) also, there is no seating inside.

I am so sad that this is in another city. Everything is really flavorful and so fresh. The elotes is really good, but the real star of the show for me was the strawberries and cream with granola. It’s mindblowingly good, especially for how simple it is.

Go here now! We stumbled across this place and was pleasantly surprised. I had the coconada, which was coconut ice cream with fresh strawberries, pineapple, whipped cream, pecans, and topped with condensed milk. The coconut ice cream was one of the best things I’ve ever had.
I tried some of the watermelon aguas frescas and was amazed. A tad sweet but wow – that thing was great!
I also tried some of the mango shaved ice and liked that as well.
Do yourself a favor and try this place. The menu is a little daunting, and the line moves a little slow since everything is made to order. Worth it though!

The staff is great and always willing to explain what’s on the menu and happy to recommend something that you will enjoy they have wonderful choices and you can always be sure that they will be consistent in making your favorite treat. you made me forget all about calories and I just simply enjoyed my experience.

I’ve gotten the elotes several times since this review. Taste just like Mexico street corn.

I never had elotes until last week. This week I’ve had it twice and the weeks not even over. Serious addiction. Haven’t had any sweets yet, but soon. The customer service is great. All smiles
I would wait an hour in line for some elotes. Just saying.

Stopped by to get some yogurt/​ice cream/​fruit stuff. They pack the stuff on here real good. In my opinion, it’s a little too sweet, but my fiancé definitely enjoyed it.

My hubby and I were out and about on a crisp Saturday afternoon and we decided to find a place for a light snack. I remembered seeing Instagram pics of fruit treats that family members posted so I thought that I would give Hay Elotes a try.
Their small shop is on East 7^th tucked between various storefronts but it was easy to find. Parking was almost non-​existent and I wasn’t too happy to find a dusty parking lot especially when I just had my car washed and detailed.
My disappointment was reversed when I stepped inside and saw so many choices. We ordered to small elotes cups so that we could have them tweaked to our own taste. I also ordered nachos which cane with a couple of spoonfuls of real corn. This was a happy surprise and tasted great.
I decided to order a large fruit cup so that we could snack on it at home. Lastly I ordered an ice cold bottle of Topo Chico that they promptly dressed and served over ice with the juice of two fresh squeezed limes.
Delish.
We took our order out to the picnic table in the side of the shop and enjoyed the creations. One of the workers came out with a fruit cup and we chatted with him while he took his break. He told us that this was a slow day which surprised us as there were at least 29 people in line ahead of us when we arrived.
We will definitely be back. Just wish there was a shop in South Austin.

Me encantó este lugar!!! Casi auténtico chucherias mexicanas; sólo le faltó un poco más de tierrita para darle sabor. Pero con eso que aquí sí tienen que pasar esas pruebas de limpieza por eso no sabe igual! Pero lo que más me gusto de este lugar es su amabilidad. Me atendieron muy rápido y me dieron lo que pedía. Me toco ver que la cajera cogía dinero y tocaba las manzanas con Chile y manos sucias… esas han de estar más buenas pues tienen mugrita. Jiji

We were craving for some sweets, and we came here cause the reviews are pretty good. We waited in line for an hour until we get our food on a Sunday afternoon. I normally wouldn’t take off a star for the wait time, but I did this time. The line was not extremely long (at least not for an hour), but when I ordered i realized it’s the service that’s taking FOREVER!
We ordered corns (elotes) and mango hills, the corns were different than the creamy corn you’d expect from a BBQ restaurant, but THEY WERE GOOD regardless. The mango hill ($ 5) was delicious! The not too sweet mango shaved ice with some chili sauce.
The downside of this place is that it’s not very clean! The restroom was nasty and the kitchen was dirty. That’s mainly the reason I took off another star.

Delish!!! A cute little place. There aren’t enough fruit cup places in austin, but I’m glad I found this one.
The Mangonada was amazing! I couldn’t finish all the tamarindo on my straw though.
I also had the sour hot cheetoes which was my dream dish. Hot cheetoes, pickles, chamoy, and lime! I couldn’t even finish it because it was so sour.
We also ordered the chicharron dish. Cabbage, pig skins in vinegar, avocado, some sort of cream sauce, and valentino hot sauce all on top of a sheet of chicharron (?). I wasn’t a fan of the pig skins so I didn’t eat much of this dish. They’re chewy.
Sorry if I butchered any ingredients.
Maybe next time I won’t overload on the sour stuff and I’ll be alright. Haha

100% original. Elote blanco, queso fresco, chilito del mercado.
Las rusas traen la fruta picadita y no medio vaso lleno de pedazos de naranja. Muy buenas y refrescantes.
Las conchitas con elote, queso, salsa y no se que mas cosas estan deliciosamente porcinas.
Es el lugar perfecto para curar el antojo.
