Harper’s Towing Service

Being stranded on the side of the road sucks balls. And it’s also something impossible to plan ahead for. I was less than impressed looking at Unilocal in Austin for a wrecker. The lady on the phone was polite, and the wrecker arrived within 30 minutes after I told her where I was stranded. John our driver was professional and VERY helpful with local knowledge as to where to take my ride for service. When you pay with a card you get prompted with an option for a tip. «The Man» gets a cut of the tip that way, so if you like your service like I did then a tip in cash is appreciated.

Steve Harper is a LIFESAVER. I can’t express enough how grateful I was when I saw him and his tow truck pull into the gas station that I was stranded at with a flat tire. I asked him if he could help me (if he denied, I probably would have just asked for some towing services). I offered him money, he wouldn’t take it.

Reasonable price, quick service, don’t damage your car.
That pretty much checks off all the things people look for in a towing service.

Fast, friendly and the cost to tow my car was within the expected price. No hassle, no fuss.

My car broke (Congress and St Elmo 3÷23÷15) the Towing conductor as soon as he hear my Latin accent turn despot, bossy, plain bad attitude, arriving at the destination I pay a price that I thought was fair no problem there. the worst of all this was the driver had my car diagonally and without care or foot on the breaks he moved the transmission lever I could hear a loud bang (I know for sure that is not the way to get a car of the crane…) now I got a ruined transmission and NO CAR I do not recommend this company very lousy service.

Solicite este servicio debido a que mi carro se descompuso en La Congress Y St Elmo 3÷23÷15 El conductor De la grúa tan pronto escucho mi acento latino me trato mal con una déspota y mala Actitud subió mi Auto le pedí llevarme al taller con el obviamente y el respondió SUBE YA PERO PRONTO al llegar al destino pague Un precio que me pareció justo Ningún problema ahí. lo peor de esto fue el conductor tenía mi auto en forma diagonal y sin poner el freno movió la palanca de trasmisión Yo pude escuchar un fuerte golpe y ahora mi trasmisión esta arruinada antes a esto sé que esa no es la manera de bajar un auto de la grúa No recomiendo a esta compañía por tener pésimo servicio.

The driver, David, arrived right at the estimated time with a friendly demeanor. They got my car over to the car fixer quickly and without incident. David was great, and the only reason I’m not giving this 5 stars is because it was $ 85 to take the car less than a mile. But maybe that’s standard for towing, I wouldn’t really know.

This has to be the best towing company in Austin. My coworker had to get her car towed from work to the dealer and we called Harper’s. The dispatcher was extremely nice and the truck got here when we were told it would. The driver could not have been nicer and more professional. I’ve been involved in other towing experiences in Austin and no one even comes close to Harper’s in terms of professionalism and courtesy.

David came all the way from Austin to 12miles W of Ozona to get me & my jalopy. I’d been stranded about 10hrs when my friends called Harpers & obviously David rushed out the door to help. He made sure to take me right away to get something to eat, drink & use facilities. He let me sleep and charged my phone for me. It was WAY less than I expected it to cost to have my car towed that far and I recommend anyone call Harpers!

I’m not sure you can ask for anything more when you’re broken down in the middle of the road. Harper’s did it right. The truck operator took extra care not to damage my car and didn’t take any shortcuts to get it on the truck — greatly appreciated. Thanks Harpers!
I never thought I’d see the day when I had a «good» towing experience. In the past my towing encounters typically involved an irate and illegally parked SO. Too bad they couldn’t have towed her away too and saved me years of misery. «Where would you like her towed sir?» — «back to Baltimore.»

Left work fifteen minutes early to hit the gym only to find out my car won’t start. Called 3 other places only to be told they can’t get to me in under an hour and a half! Fourth attempt… Harper’s to the rescue! Even made it to the car dealership just in time to have my battery changed out. They were courteous and very professional, I highly recommend their services.

Love these guys! Unfortunately, I have had to use them on several occasions. They could not be any nicer OR professional. They have great equipment, the guys are super polite and they are also timely, so they don’t leave you stranded for hours. Thanks Guys!

I know everyone has different experiences at different times, but these guys totally helped me out of a jam when my 4 wheel drive went haywire on my Titan. They were the pinnacle of professionalism and performed to expectations — pay dollars to have car towed to safety!

I used Harper’s Towing on the recommendation of Leonard’s Garage and they were great! I spoke with Betty numerous times on the phone and she was helpful each time. A technician came out quickly (David) and helped to push my car out of a 10 story parking garage — all 10 stories! He was very friendly. Prices are reasonable and they made an unpleasant experience pleasant.

I lost my keys and was stranded in a secluded dog park parking lot after midnight. I was starting to freak out because multiple towing companies had either turned me away or failed to answer their phones. Harper’s was quick, reasonable, and professional. The driver made me feel safe and secure, which is saying a lot for a single young woman. I would recommend this company in any situation!

This service was flawless and as professional as it gets. I called at 2 in the morning and they were able to show up within 30 minutes. When the driver showed up, he even tried to make my car able to start before he hooked it up to the truck. He was a very good communicator and listened very well. All around great job, I’ll be keeping their card in hand.

My car died on Friday evening at rush hour… I made 17 phone calls to get a wrecker to rescue me and other towing services were too busy to help. Harper’s Towing– Steve expedited getting my car delivered to the repair shop and made sure that I got a safe ride home. He was very nice and professional and deserves 5 stars for his service.

My car died (resurrected by Subaru, another Unilocal story) and I had a friend call a tow service for me. Glad she picked Harper’s. The driver, Sam, was professional, knowledgeable and courteous when he arrived within the time frame the operator gave. The operator made sure to inform me that if the police showed up, tell them a service was on the way (good to know as I was sitting in a business when the police showed up… I was able to stop a 2^nd service from being called out). My car was safely towed to the shop… both the APD officer and Subaru shop said they’d had good experience when using Harper’s.

I got into a low speed fender bender one rainy night, and almost got swindled out of my car by these guys.
I would like to add, I was unemployed at the time of the accident, with only liability insurance. Dennis the tow truck driver from Harper never asked me directly where I would like the car to be taken, just hooked it up while I was dealing with the paperwork and police (they didn’t cite me) So, once the shock wore off and I was safe and dry and in the company of friends, and talking through the events of the evening, they told me to call Harper right away, once they realized I had no idea I could have chosen where the car could be towed to. (Idiotic, in hindsight, but as I said, I was in shock and unaware of my rights.) Well, Dennis answered the phone, was rude, talked over me and repeatedly interrupted while I explained that it was a mistake, that my car needed to go to my house, and no one had ever asked me where I wanted it to go. He stated that the police told him to just take it (!!!) and if I wanted it brought to my house immediately it would be more expensive to tow it at night than in the morning, (but when I spoke to the woman in their office the next morning, she had no clue what I was talking about.) When I told him (in tears now) I had no job, not very much money, and that liability insurance wouldn’t cover the fees or repairs, that is when he tried to swindle me, saying «Well if you have the title in hand, you can bring it here and sign it over to us, and we will waive ½ of the fee» ½ the fee? So he was trying to say my car was only worth $ 100?! Um… no thanks Dennis. My basically brand new tires are worth more than $ 100, the various parts (engine, transmission) that are still in perfect working order are worth more than $ 100. What. The. Eff?
Needless to say, I declined his generous offer.
On the bright side, the lady in the office was super sweet, but when I explained the situation to her all she said was «Yeah if you don’t tell them where to bring it, they just bring it here.»
Maybe I’m silly for thinking this but. shouldn’t someone have made sure that I fully understood my rights here? If they had told me up front what the ramifications of them taking my car would have been, I would have opted for them to just tow it to my driveway. Also, isn’t it shady that he tried to get me to sign over my car? I didn’t even choose their company, the police did.
P. S. The police were super nice too… but if they did tell him to just take my car, they should have asked me. I remember mentioning how broke I was and how I only had liability insurance. I was babbling it over and over in a panic, at one point, actually.
Luckily no one was injured, and my dear friends all pitched in to help me get the car out. xoxoxo!
I filed a complaint at the Texas dept of licensing and regulation.
