H&R Block

I made an appointment online a week before coming in the store. Once I got there, I started to notice that atmosphere was a bit chaotic and unorganized. After a 40 minute wait, I still had not been called back or updated about how much longer it might be before I could see my tax ‘pro’. I’m going to try one more H&R Block location before moving on from them altogether.

I was there for 2 and a half hours, and will only receive $ 80 on my return. Teresa helped me, and constantly had to ask questions to her manager, or any of the other specialists. She stopped typing in my information constantly to make conversation with me. She kept being confused by different forms. I understand she was attempting to be friendly, but she would talk for ten minutes straight, and then seem confused about going back in. I could feel the frustration that all the other employees had with her. I wanted to give my money to one of the other specialists, Ethan, because he was the only one who actually attempting to help me. I would say that if you are planning on using this location to request an appointment with him, specifically. The other people are inexperienced, and unprofessional. He felt my frustration, and tried to help me, including trying to help me a discount. Unfortunately, Teresa even messed that up. I wanted to make a formal complaint about her, but I had been there for long enough already.

I feel exactly the same as Janice. If only I’d looked them up on Unilocal and made my appointment elsewhere. First I called the local office, made an appointment and then got a confirmation the day of my appointment, only it was booked at an office in California. They were totally confused, blamed technical difficulties, which could be true so I let it slide but then they transferred me back to the local office. I told the receptionist at Riverside I was a freelancer and needed someone who could help me with deductions. She said she knew just who to put me with, a guy who specialized in that. Well, just when I was feeling as if they’d made up for the mishap that was perhaps out of their control to begin with, I show up a few minutes early to my appointment — they’re not open. The woman gets there late to open, understandable, everyone has rough mornings, but no interaction with me or the other clients waiting whatsoever.
I sit inside and wait and wait and wait until 30 minutes pass. I inquire about what the issue is, they give the guy a call. «He’s running late.» Thank you captain obvious! Well, I wait some more as tax specialist after tax specialist takes client after client and finally they call the guy again, «He’s not going to make it.» Oh okay, well, is there someone else who can help me? I ask. They pass me off to Laura Stevens who had been sitting there without a client for nearly the entire time that I was waiting. And long story short, after all this, I too, was ripped off. They tried to charge me more than I was getting in return and my return was less than half of what I’ve always gotten in the past. I had to figure out which deductions weren’t worth filing to get any kind of money back but all in all they charged me 2 – 3 times what I’ve ever paid before!
I hate complaining. I’ve worked in the service industry (food, retail, office, you name it!) but something has to be done about this one. This is people’s livelihood they’re playing with. I not only look forward to my tax return every year, I rely on it and I know others do too. I’ve got a claim number now. It’s supposed to go through corporate. We shall see… Maybe I’ll put in an update down the road.
In the meantime, after years of going to H&R Block depending on how they handle this complaint they may have lost a very loyal customer. Either way, this location was by far the most unprofessional office I’ve ever been to and I will 100% not be returning there. STAY AWAY!

What a disappointment. I felt like the Tax specialist (or H and R Block) ripped me off! After taking about half my return in in fees for themselves, my return came back incomplete. I’m not usually the type to complain about this sort of service, but this takes the cake. I’ll go back to Turbo Tax next year and do it myself: Fast, Easy, and FREE.
