We missed a Unilocal event invite, but figured why not try it — first week was offered at half price. Now I don’t know what I’d do without them!
We SO look forward to our weekly delivery. Each Tuesday, a box with three soft side coolers (and ice packs) appears at our door sometime between 2 and 7 p.m. Inside each, is a complete meal organized by step number for mixing/​cooking the ingredients. Today I made the Chicken Biscuit Casserole and it was omg good. At only $ 70 each week, hubby and I are preparing 3 gourmet meals for 2 in less than 30 minutes.
It’s so easy that when I worked late last week, he prepared lamb goat sliders and home baked fries for our dinner. I’ve never walked in to find a home cooked meal before. Can I just say I LOVE these gals!
There have been a couple of meals we didn’t love, but that’s more about us figuring out what we prefer. Every offering has been high quality. And, if you don’t like their weekly selection, just sub out a different dish from the menu. Highly recommend!

As someone who never knows where to begin when she walks into a grocery store, this place is incredible. Ready to go meal kits with proportioned ingredients and directions! And it tastes so fresh! I tried the caramelized leek, zucchini, and radish flatbread with Parmesan and fresh herbs. I was so impressed! As well as incredibly proud of myself for making such a delicious meal in such a short amount of time.
Gourmet by Numbers sells ready to cook meal kits which is ideal for people like me who are cooking newbies or are just too lazy to go collect ingredients from the grocery store. The ingredients are labeled with steps and directions to make cooking as easy as possible. Also, the meals can be bought in 1 – 4 servings depending on your family situation. They also offer subscriptions for 3 meals per week. Each meal is priced at $ 12.50 and is made fresh and organic. They also deliver meals by hand to your door instead of a shipping company to ensure delivery. Also shipping is FREE!
So happy this place is in my neighborhood! I can’t wait to try new meals in the future!

I went to a Unilocal event here. It was great! What a great concept! I know this because I just hosted an exchange student from Spain and I KNOW how long it takes to come up with a meal plan, getting the recipe, shopping, preparing, cooking, servling cleaning up. To have a delicious dinner ready in 30 minutes that is healthy and perfectly proportioned and approved by a nutritionist… worth it! Time savings from not… surfing the net for recipes or draggin out the cook book, followed by actually making a decision, making a list, going shopping, schlepping the stuff home, cleaning, chopping, cooking, serving, cleaning up the countless utensils used to prepare said dish, then eating it in 5 minutes or less (with hungry teenagers), cleaning up again, just to start over planning the next meal… Ugh…I am tired just typing all that out. So this business model is GENIUS!!! Yes, healthy meals, to be cooked by you fresh so they taste fresh rather than some lump of frozen ingrediates nuked in your microwave that no longer have the texture that was given to them by nature. And you get to eat a delicious meal with out having to dull you knives, wash your veggies, meat, fish. fruit cooking boards. Get it? Perfectly proportioned meals. Locally sourced. OK you may have to dirty that egg skilet you used in the morning but that is it! No going to grocery store. It can be picked up at the shop or delivered to your door periodically… your choice! And with visiting chefs no need to get bored with the same old recipes. Try it! You will like it!

Okay, I am a total newbie when it comes to cooking something with more than 6 ingredients. With Gourmet by Cooking setting up a physical shop up north and seeing their free meal on them to check them out, I figured I had nothing to lose. Entering the beautiful space, they’ve decorated and laid out beautiful kitchen trinkets and herb products for you to learn to eat better!
Immediate when you walk in and to the left, is the fridge of amazing yummy cooler bag of meals for you to pick up, 1 serving, 2 serving or 4 servings (for families). Heather, the owner and creator of this place, is simply amazing. I was a little starstruck and just totally excited that I had to contain my excitement and play it cool that i was totally onboard with this. Plus, a delivery food service that services North area of where I live?! Score! I want to eat better, with locally sourced ingredients with simple 20 – 30 min cooking time meals. This place delivers and I plate beautifully with impossible to mess up cooking directions supplied on the meal bag. Everything is labelled Step 1, 2, 3, 4 ingredients so it is seriously fool-​proof. It would be such a fun cooking event to do at home as a newlywed couple exploring kitchen cooking territory, as well as children activity to cook with kids as it’s pretty fun to teach basic cooking concepts!
Heather explained we can either keep the bags the ingredients come in, or take them back for them to clean and reuse which I love. Thank you Heather for letting us try no pressure, I’m sold and foresee myself using gourmet by kitchen as a fun date night activity for the evenings we want to stay home and Netflix and still be fancy!
Ps. Seriously, look at my salmon florentine meal. I am so classy now!

I’m a big fan! I went to the store yesterday to check it out and was very excited that they were giving away one free meal to try! I think this promotion is over this weekend. Anyways, I chose the pea and Parmesan risotto with a salad and honey roasted carrots. The only things that I needed to make it at home were pots, pans, aluminum foil, and salt and pepper. The recipe was very easy to follow and the food was YUMMY! I’m not sure if it was supposed to yield 1 or 2 servings but I got 2 out of it so I’m excited to eat the rest tomorrow. This is an awesome concept to cook good, healthy meals at home with no stress of shopping, chopping, or measuring! Highly recommend!

I love the idea of cooking, but I’m honestly overwhelmed by it. The recipe planning, shopping lists, shopping trips, prep and cleaning — it’s just too much work. Especially given that I’m a single professional who lives alone. In the past, when I’ve managed to cook for myself, I get frustrated with having to eat the same thing for days at a time, or finding ways to use leftover ingredients before they go bad. It creates a lot of waste and often feels like it just isn’t worth the effort to make my own meals. I then turn to going out to dinner, or ordering in with Postmates, both of which can get really expensive and usually aren’t the healthiest choices.
It’s like someone invented Gourmet by Numbers just for me. I get to choose my meals, and the single servings are perfect for me. There is almost no clean up other than rinsing and recycling the containers and washing the pans I used. The food is flavorful and the portions are hearty — I sometimes end up with leftovers for lunch, which I’m happy to eat the next day. I feel like I’ve accomplished something when I plate my home-​cooked meal and of course post pictures online.
I tried Blue Apron, and while this sounds funny, the idea of having to pull out all of the ingredients, wash and cut them, then clean up the mess, was enough to make me not even make some of the recipes. I didn’t like that I couldn’t pick what I got to eat that week — the box I got featured a ton of eggplant, which is one of the few foods I really hate.
I highly recommend trying them out. With the 50% off the first week offer, there’s really no reason not to. I’m fairly confident you will love it as much as I do and look forward to your deliveries every week :)

We have never eaten so well. With a one year old running around, it’s not easy planning meals that are delicious, clean, simple, and budget friendly. Unless you are going to be eating a zillion leftovers, buying several ingredients for each meal really adds up. We have been preparing Greenling’s meal kits for the last several years, but they don’t even compare to Gourmet by Numbers. The portions are excellent, the tastes and textures are incredible. There is a great selection to choose from and it’s fun. I actually look forward to cooking now. Greenling made me feel like I was cheating. But with Gourmet by Numbers I can still cook and get that experience, just much more convenient. And so delicious. So far our favorites are the crispy salmon and the caramelized leek flatbread. My one year old eats like a queen. She has approved of every single meal. Love love everything about this business. It’s so easy to order, great website, awesome meals. Feeling so lucky it’s at my doorstep. Oh and they deliver to the Toybrary too! Another business we love and visit often. Im looking toward to growing as a customer with this business.

Overall, an excellent service and cannot believe I am the first review. We have tried Blue Apron, Green Chef, Hellofresh and Plated, so I feel like I am fairly qualified for a review.
Pros:
–No prep. Everything comes pre-​portioned, labeled and washed. The other services require washing/​prep that can add 20 – 25 mins. This is a huge advantage that also creates less mess.
–Price is competitive. For a subscription, I get 3 meals per week for the same per meal price that I was paying for Blue Apron and slightly less than Plated and Green Chef. It’s more expensive per week but I also get one more meal per week.
–Fresh and local. Ingredients are packed in North Austin and driven down. There is no Fedex or UPS transporting the items from elsewhere that can lead to qualify degradation and needless long range transport.
–Portions are great. We signed up for the 4 person family plan and there is plenty of food, even for leftovers. We have 3 eaters and it makes a nice lunch the next day
–Packaging is fully recyclable and reusable. If you put it out the following week they will wash and reuse it.
–Large selection. Not just pick 2 recipes out of 4 choices per week, there were like 20 choices
–Healthy
–Recipes are clear and well written out
Cons:
–Ingredient amounts are not listed. I cannot recreate the recipe if I like it later on.
–Ingredients are labeled but not color coded for each recipe. I segmented the ingredients in my refrigerator for each recipe but it could be confusing if some of the recipes share the same ingredient
Neutral:
–Not everything is organic but apparently some is. They say they try to source high quality ingredients that are local and could be organic. I’d like to know if it’s organic or not but the ingredients do seem fresh and high quality. I understand the dynamics behind organic labeling and the higher cost is not always feasible for small farmers.
That’s about it. We are on week one and I wasn’t endorsed by the company at all. My family loves to cook and eat healthy but with 2 small kids, it can be a challenge. This helps us try new things and eat well without resorting to takeout… Again.
