Goltz Home Properties

Jason and Marcie Goltz, owners of Goltz Home Properties, were the worst landlords I ever had, which is saying something What’s worse is that they don’t even realize how bad they were because they think they are nice normal people. They are an old married couple who owns a bunch of properties in Austin and act as their own company, meaning they made their own lease and want to make money off of you.
In the beginning they were all smiles and made a lot of promises, like finishing an attic room so that we could use the space as another room instead of storage. But over time as we contacted them for repairs their true colors came out. After the year and half of living there the attic never got finished. I even overheard them telling prospective new tenants the same lies.
They were slow with repairs. My front door lock was broken for over a week before they sent someone to repair it. Thankfully the apartment is in a good neighborhood and my roommate and I worked opposite schedules. One summer the air conditioning unit broke and it took them days to repair it. It was over a hundred degrees in the apartment. They also never repaired or replaced the water heater because they said that we were being too sensitive because they had never had any complaints before. (They have a 4 gallon water heater in a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment with a washer/​dryer and a dishwasher.) They also advised us not to do dishes any time before we took showers. I don’t know about you but I like showers a little long than 4 and half minutes before the water turns cold.
Jason talked down to me on many occasions both in person and in email. Overall both of them were quite rude. They increased the rent after 6 months because they said that the apartment is worth more.
When it came time to show the apartment they gave very little notice and would show up even if you asked them not to. I had the flu and Marcie still brought people in to look at the place and then gave me a hard time because it wasn’t clean. I tried to arrange with Marcie so I could be home for the apartment showings since I have a lot of expensive film equipment lying around and even though I expressed this to her in many emails she purposely did not respect my wishes.
I loved the apartment because it was two stories and had a cute balcony. It was perfect for my boyfriend and me. I’m just not sure it was worth dealing with Marcie and Jason as landlords.
Do yourself a favor and don’t rent from these people. They are inconsiderate. They will try and rip you off.
