After using the big box stores for my glasses I found Gene Rogers through Unilocal.They had a much better selection of frames than any place I had used before. But what really sets them apart is the customer service. When I picked up my new glasses, something in the prescription was very off. I took them to my eye Dr. and he had actually written the RX wrong. Mrs. Rogers was so kind. They replaced the lenses with the new and correct RX and didn’t charge me anything even though it was in no way their fault. And whatever type of lenses they put in are amazing. They just don’t get dirty like my old lenses and so far seem very resistant to scratching. I’ve been very please with the entire experience and will definitely use them again.

Gene Rogers Optical sold me the best frames I have ever had in several decades of wearing glasses! The metal that holds the nose pads doesn’t corrode, for one thing. They have a wide variety of frames to choose from, and the personal attention is not only kindly but is experienced and professional. Well worth it.

This place has the COOLEST selection of frames I’ve ever seen. Unfortunately for me, my vision is 20⁄20. I found this place several years ago with my mom, and every year when she comes to visit from Michigan she buys a new pair of glasses here. They mail them to her once they’re ready, and she’s always been happier with their work than anywhere in Michigan (they use some sort of new fangled computer alignment on the lenses). She recently got the cutest retro red frames made into sunglasses here. In fact, on this visit, my mom AND sister got glasses. My sister chose a vintage frame… literal vintage. The store’s owner has a big stock of frames from the 1970s?80s?90s?, and they’re fun as heck! The staff is kind and very helpful, and the young guy who works there is super hip, so he’ll give you the real scoop on how you look in those glasses!

Went there for just a simple repair on my favorite old pair of sunglasses. Lost screw for right side of frame. Went in, they found one, installed it…5 minutes later I am out the door. Even better… no charge!!! Fast, friendly, free. Doesn’t get much better than that!!!

Great shop for Ray Ban owner. Stopped in and was totally taken care of for fixing my old Wayfarers. Very helpful. Told me about background on them too. I’m only going here for my next pair of sunglasses or glasses.

I’ve been shopping for frames and lenses at Gene Rogers Optical for well over a decade now, so this review is long overdue. It’s also going to be short: they have always come through for me.
I need my glasses every waking minute of the day, but I’m also sometimes clumsy or careless with them. When I’ve bent or broken my frames over the years, the nice people at Gene Rogers Optical have always fixed or replaced them, either for free or for cheap. Aside from these instances where they’ve saved me from myself, it’s an exciting place to go shopping for frames. Their selection is a delight. Everything is affordable (as glasses go) and they have a wide selection of older and contemporary styles; I found my my all-​time favorite pair of glasses here (though I’ve since broken them beyond what even GRO can fix).

Great selection of frames. But what really impresses me is their service. I brought in a pair of frames that had broken and I was treated very fairly. Their staff worked with me so I could have an exact replacement.
The very first time I came in, the staff advised me on what kind of frames were best for a progressive bifocal lens, and the glasses I received were so much better for reading than any of my previous pairs. And the frames they helped me choose looked great on me.

I broke the hinge of my glasses and lost the screw to put them back together. So I went to the store, and one of the employees fixed my glasses within 10 minutes for free! Such great customer service! Will definitely go back when I need a new pair of glasses!

This place and their service are awesome. My husband was looking for a particular Ray Ban frame that was no longer available online or anywhere else. We went to Gene Rogers Optical and they found them in less than a week! I found oodles of frames in there I would love for myself. You’ve got to check them out!

Unique frames, vintage inspired, quality family owned and operated shop. Donna and Gene and the handy staff were a pure delight and so helpful and knowledgable. In the past I’ve bought frames online but I’m sold on this couple selling me eyewear now. I’ll add to the chorus of looove that Gene Rogers gets. They have a surprisingly wide selection of glasses despite the small size of the shop. They warmly welcome you and then work their magic by sizing you up and quickly selecting frames that suit your face. Imagine my shock when the very first pair that Rene chose ended up being my pick: stylish, affordable (mention Unilocal for a discount on your frames), and oh-​so-​flattering. I’ve had good experiences at other shops, but Gene Rogers stood out because of their uncanny ability to find the perfect pair for you right off the bat, their family-​like atmosphere, and their range of glasses from the most hipster corduroy (yes, you read that right) frames to the more typical fare. Plus, they have amazeballs customer service and do in-​house eyeglass repairs. They are now my go-​to for all things optical.

This place is incredible. I think they have been in town since 52. I was helped by 3 generations of Rogers which jusy seems to be almost non existent in Austin anymore. They educated me on every detail. My doctor was worthless so I really needed their help.

Gene Rogers Optical is one of the last strongholds of customer service. I had broken off one of the earpieces of my expensive bifocals and didn’t want to squeeze a new pair into my budget. I thought they were a total loss. Most eyeglass shops just want to sell you new glasses and they can’t be bothered with repairs that are time consuming and not profitable. I stopped by yesterday at this shop and met the Gene Rogers, the owner.
Gene stopped what he was doing and had his technician repair the glasses while I waited.
I’ll go back to Gene Rogers for my next pair of glasses. This family business was started in 1954 and has been at their current location for over forty years. This kind of reliability is hard to find these days.

I’ve been negligent in reviewing these fine people. Got my glasses here over a year ago and Gene was a perfect gentleman both in the sale — and in calming a family member who wasn’t sure they liked my glasses.
For the record, this is the first pair of glasses that I’ve NEVER needed to have adjusted. Over the weekend, I realized that the earpiece on my frames was getting worn/​damaged. Walked in this afternoon, showed the frame to Gene’s son and less than 5 minutes later, I had the earpiece replaced.
Gene Rogers has another customer for life.
