We specialize in Natural Smoothies, Wraps, Salads, Shakes & Freshly Squeezed Juices. We make our smoothies with NO added sugar, and flash frozen fruit to ensure freshness. All of our juices are made to order, in front of our customer’s eyes. All of our wraps and salads are made with premium meats and cheeses, in combination with the freshest/​crispest lettuce possible. We strive in our store to connect with our customers and to ensure they receive nothing but the best service possible. If there is a problem we will correct it, and make the situation right, no questions asked. We also specialize in Catering, whether it’s for a small breakfast meeting, all the way up to 1000 person sporting or church event we can provide all of our wraps and smoothies to ensure that the host puts on a healthy meal option. We are about to open our second locally owned restaurant at Tech Ridge (IH 35 & Parmer) on about June 20th, hope to see you there!

History

Established in 2007.

Wes & Eric wanted to create their own business here in Austin after working in corporate America for awhile and do something that is rewarding. FROOTS is a logical fit for Austin with it’s healthy options and numerous smoothies to keep you cool in the warm summer months. They started searching for locations and settled at 415 W. 2nd Street next to City Hall Downtown, and were open for business on May 30th 2008.(we’re about to celebrate our 1year.) Our second location is opening in late June at Tech Ridge (IH 35 & Parmer). Along the way Nate & Matt have became valuable assets to FROOTS on 2nd and we are excited about what is happening in the year to come, hopefully stores 3 & 4.

Wes, is a co-​owner in FROOTS on 2nd as well as the cheif manager of FROOTS. He comes from a background in restaurant and hotel management with jobs in Illinois & Wisconsin. He enjoys all that Austin has to offer and likes hanging out with his friends, Austin Ballet, & Lake Travis.

I came in one afternoon to use a Living Social «Now Deal» — i’ve found it to be a great way to try a new place that im unsure about. I checked out the menu online and decided to give it a shot (and avoid the 15 minute wait and surrounding chaos which usually occurs at the whole foods juice bar)
So here goes: the décor needs some work– it feels a bit «cold» in there. Tiny little place, but it is cute. What made this experience for me was that the guy who helped me was awesome.
— i ordered carrot juice, (3.99)… and i dont think their juicer is on par with the juice i get from whole foods/​daily juice/​juicebox and soup peddler.
SO, after trying to decide how to use the rest of my 9 dollars and seeing nothing that caught my eye, i ordered orange banana juice. as he was making it, i spotted a huge jar of matcha green tea power on the wall.
shocked, i asked if they made matcha drinks– he said they did. ((Note that the matcha is NOT on the menu)).
He could tell i was disappointed that i had not ordered that instead. He offered to make me one (matcha green tea powder, soymilk, and vanilla frozen yogurt blended together). I was like «are you sure!?» He gave me the matcha green tea drink for free, and even said i could keep the carrot juice (that i wasnt crazy about). What an awesome guy. He made sure I left a happy customer. While I dont recommend ordering any fresh juice from here, I recommend them for the service, and the matcha green tea was very nice– light, refreshing, yet substantial and guilt free.

The food gods must be feeling sorry for us, because we have been scoring majorly with finding great options for us downtowners. Saw per Unilocal they Froots did downtown delivery and decided to take a chance. They have an online ordering system which is very easy to use, the only con is the fact that you can’t make any changes to your order. This is where that sickening, sweat pouring, heart racing feeling came into play… I was going to have to call in my order… NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
With clammy hands I started to dial their number… ring… ring…what is this I hear, a pleasant voice. I quickly let him know the deal of me paying with multiple credit cards, I prepare to hear the creepy girl from the «Exorcist» with some head spinning, but yet still a pleasant voice.
Order was taken with precision; food came super fast, chili hot, and smoothie cold.

Visiting Austin this weekend I had big plans to walk around downtown, but had to cut them short due to the extreme heat! I was hot and thirsty and the one thing on my mind was an ice cold fruity smoothie. This place saved the day and we made it 30 minutes before it closed.
The guy at the register was really accommodating to my indecisiveness and let me throw in some papaya juice in my pina coolada. It hit the spot! Creamy and coconutty, they use pure coconut cream in this one, can’t go wrong with that!
I also added in some free antioxidant boost. They have a list of free boosters you can add in, a long list of smoothies, fruity, or chocolatey indulgent ones, or muscle bulking ones, as well as a whole menu of salads, sandwiches, and wraps. I didn’t try the food and I think it would be too hard to pass up the smoothies if I’m there but it’s great that they have options.
All they’re missing is more outdoor tables!

I have only had caesar salad from here, so this review is based on that. It was mediocre. The chicken was extremely funky, definitely not fresh grilled chicken. It was some processed chicken chunks that could have come out of a can. That is what it seemed like. The lettuce, cheese and dressing were all fine. No complaints.
My friend’s turkey sandwich looked much better. It was on a nice multi-​grain roll.
This is a limited review, but nothing about the place made me want to try more items.

I recently bought a Groupon for Froots since I’m always looking for new places to eat lunch downtown. Honestly, I was a little unsure of what to expect but was pleasantly surprised when I walked in! It is a small smoothy bar and sandwich shop — and super inexpensive! They offer healthy lunch options for $ 6, which is pretty unexpected for a smoothy shop.
I had the albacore tuna wrap. I’m pretty picky about tuna. I don’t want a lot of mayo and extra «stuff», and I don’t want to taste more dried out bread and onions than tuna. Everything about my wrap was perfect. The wheat wrap was moist and the tuna was not overdone. I also tried the banana nut bread for dessert. My goodness, it was AMAZING!
I am looking forward to going back and trying out a few other options on their menu. It’s hard to come by healthy food at a reasonable price, so I’m sure I will frequent Froots.

Today was the second time I’ve been to this particular location, last time I had only tried the smoothies. I ordered a chicken wasabi wrap and dear lord! My eyes are still watering! (But in a good way. Guess I’m a glutton for punishment). The quality of the food is really high, there were big, juicy chunks of chicken packed in there, and it definitely filled me up comfortably. The interior of the store is pretty vibrant and the location is great (aside from the scaffolding across the street right now). They do catering and delivery, so that’s something I would consider in the future. The employees/​manager have always been really cool and friendly both times I’ve been (which, no offense Austin, can sometimes be hard to come by) I would recommend it to anyone!

Love this place i got a greek salad and a giant green tea smoothie and my Fiancée got some strawberry bull or something and some chicken sooo yummy! i could live off of these smoothies
we actually found them from Groupon so we only spent $ 10 for near $ 20 of food!!!

Helloooooo new favorite lunch spot.
Lucky for me, I work within delivery distance to Froots. Lucky for them I’m lazy and hate leaving my office, especially when it’s cold or raining. Hot soup? Panini? Wrap? Awesome smoothie?! They bring it to me and it’s all delicious and healthy and I love it. And I can order online!

I really like this place! Especially for lunch, they have a great special with a small smoothie, wrap and chips for $ 6! And if your just going in for a smoothie the price is really reasonable, and they are natural, yummy and healthy!
For dieter’s it’s a tastey escape from typical health food. they have a great selection of smoothies under 220 calories, and are really detailed with the nutrition info on the salads, wraps and sandwiches.
The staff is always super friendly, and really helpful-​and the manager is great! Parking kind of stinks, because it’s downtown (duh) but its a nice little walk away from my job so I will keep coming back!

Wow, I thought this place was pretty great! This location is about five minutes walk from my apartment and I’d been meaning to try it. I am so glad that I did!
First of all, what a great deal! The combo: a decent sized wrap, a smoothie and/​or juice, and a bag of chips for less than $ 7!
I had the veggie/​tofu wrap and the carrot-​ginger juice– both were very tasty and fresh. My bf had the Southwest wrap and Lovin Life smoothie and he enjoyed both too. I’m definitely interested in coming back to try more of the wraps– the menu options are aplenty and a lot of the wraps had interesting ingredients!
The guys working there were super friendly and courteous.
We sat outside on a gorgeous day and to be honest, it was one of the nicest experiences I’ve had eating out in Austin for $ 7 and some change per person!

UPDATE FROM FRIDAY, 12/​04/​2009:
I ordered a Chicken Caesar Salad from Froots today, along with a 16-​oz Tropical Toucan smoothie.
The manager arrived with food at around 11:30, even though I had placed the order for 1pm. And he actually brought a Chicken Caesar wrap instead of a salad. He let me keep the wrap and said he’d bring back a salad and my credit card slip at 1 o’clock. Okay, no problem. He also brought me a free Club wrap with FULLY COOKED, CRUNCHY bacon! Woo-​hoo! He apologized for my experience yesterday (as you saw in his response to my original review) and said they’ve changed the way they deal with bacon in response to my review from yesterday.
And, holy cow, the manager just came back with my salad. He also brought ANOTHER SMOOTHIE. I’m full. Seriously.
The Tropical Toucan smoothie was better than I thought it would be. I ordered it because it had fewer carbs than most of the other smoothies, unfortunately including my fave Orange Dream. I was afraid I might not like this smoothie, but I was wrong. It’s smooth and has a good balance of flavors (mango, peaches, strawberry-​kiwi juice, and orange sherbet). I truly love orange sherbet, so that was the best part, in my opinion. I don’t care if it’s 32-​degrees outside today, I’ll enjoy my frozen treat.
It is going to be incredibly hard for me to NOT order from Froots every weekday now. I can’t afford to do it every day, but it is nice to have a restaurant nearby that has good food and that’s actually affordable. I can’t tell you how tired I am of spending more than $ 10 at lunch for an amount of food that doesn’t even fill me up, all because I work in a high-​priced neighborhood at 6th and Lavaca. So I’m glad to add Froots to my cheap-​eats rotation.

My friend and I came here thinking for some reason (God knows what) that it was a frozen yogurt place. Lol. Wrong. We walked in and realized it wasn’t but decided to try the food anyway.
We decided since we had driven all the way out there already we may as well try something. When having asked the guy who helped us what he recommend for new comers, he told us that he actually hadn’t tried anything but that he’s seen how they make the Beef Jack and it looked good. So we decided to try it. After waiting about 5 – 10 minutes, we were served our sandwich. It was.small. We paid about $ 6.00. Not worth it. The texture was good with warm roast beef au jus and a whole grain wheat ciabatta bread, served with a tangy sauce. But overall the serving size was not worh the price. Albeit all the other stuff on the menu looked good and i definitely want to try the smoothies and yogees (yogurt smoothies?).
Facility was clean and staff was friendly.

I’m going to break this one down…
1. Salads — The salads are very tasty and made of fresh ingredients. Also you can’t beat the $ 5 price range!
2. Wraps– These guys are perfect for we healthy folks, when you need something fast. They are available in two sizes and the menu has enough variety to even satisfy my mother.
3. this one is important… SMOOTHIES. I hate smoothies, but decided to try one out. now I’m addicted! I’ll put money on the CHOC-​O-​NUTS with soy milk! yum!

This weekend I ventured down to the dog park off of Riverside. On the way back home, I decided to stop in and grab some lunch. I stopped in at Froots on 2nd street for a bite and was very pleased.
It was the same day as the Pecan Street festival and there were 30 million people downtown, which made parking a bit challenging. However, I found out that you can park for free in the city hall parking garage for up to 30 minutes!
From there, it was just a quick jaunt over to the Froots locale. The interior of the restaurant was brightly colored and impeccably clean, which is good because I’m a bit of a freak when it comes to cleanliness.
Anyways, the guys at the counter were really friendly and looked like they used their showers daily (slightly different experience if you visit a Thundercloud or Amys). They gave me some recommendations on a good smoothie (Tangy Mango FTW) and I got the Mediterranean wrap, which was also delicious. The veggies were very fresh. The whole thing was served on a nice modern looking plate.
Anyways, long story short, Froots is quite tasty, healthy, and very affordable. 5⁄5.

The smoothie wasn’t smooth, the sandwiches, as a previous Unilocaler said, were generic, the turkey didn’t taste like anything, and for $ 10 I should have just saved it for the grocery store.
The good things though — they had a lot of staff who were really friendly, but I did notice a lack of customers (I was kinda in a hurry so needed somewhere fast and there was a huge line at Jos and Austin Java)

Okay, so I enjoyed Froots, a smallish fresh food eatery that’s just opened up in the shadow of second street downtown: I had the Thai wrap (was still making hip-​hop jokes in my head), and looks like the have an extensive menu of smoothies here as well. So in terms of the fresh and healthy juju that’s good for each of us, it’s terrific that Austin has another option for eating just right.
That said, it’s hard for me to gush as thoroughly as some other folks did: don’t get me wrong, this was a perfectly pleasant experience and I liked what I got (lunch for two for less than twenty bucks in a hurry), but it wasn’t the transcendent mind-​bending journey some others seem to be experiencing here. In which case maybe I should have added a smoothie. Worth popping in, if only to make your way around the menu options and feel like you’re doing something good for your insides. And let’s face it, it’s all too seldom for lots of us when we treat that part of us with care. Or bananas.

Froots gets a full five stars for their Greek Salad which includes Artichokes Hearts and Hummus in addition to the usual Greek Feta Salad ingredients. The Tuna Wrap with sprouts, avocado, tomatoes, onions and spring mix is also top notch.
I am knocking off a star for their smoothies. The ones I have tried that sounded good on paper with milk or yogurt just did not taste good in person. Maybe I just chose the wrong smoothie. But, I think Mambo Berry is much better for a healthy frozen treat…

Oddly generic.
Friendly folks, and the smoothies are OK, but this place feels like a poorly designed Subway sandwich shop. The oddest thing is that the menu is displayed on the back wall, so that when you are looking at the menu, your back is to the person taking your order. That’s just weird.
And I thought the whole «Second Street District» was supposed to be an upscale shopping area. This place doesn’t seem to fit that mold. Still, it’s nice to have cheaper options, so I’m not going to complain too loudly.
