Great spot. They have great bands and good service. Not great, but certainly worth stopping by!

The music(4⁄5 stars) is great and makes the bar worthy of visiting(especially if you like blues music). The major issue I have with this bar is that my credit card was overcharged, which I noticed after checking my transactions the next morning. I was overcharged ~4 $, and I remember specifically not putting any tip on my credit card since I tipped cash(21%). I attempted to contact the bar about this issue, but I could not speak to anyone and was not allowed to leave a message. I had two different bartenders assist me throughout the night(girl and guy), so I can’t say who is responsible. I understand it is not a large amount, but it is still unacceptable to overcharge someone. If I was able to speak with the manager of the bar without physically having to go to the bar, I would be able to at least get an explanation of why/how I was overcharged. I will go to other venues first before returning to this one, and IF I do return, I will be paying in cash.

Of all the bars on sixth Street in Austin, we consistently find the best musicians here. None of that techy loud disco crap. Just good bands.

I went on a Saturday night and it was pretty dead but Staff was friendly though, and the sex on the 6th drink was super good!

Came here during the ROT rally and stopped in to hear some live music and had such a good time. Candles, live music. and everyone having a good time. I was drinking diet coke as a diet and also the DD. Every place I went to on 6th street was pretty accommodating to that and it’s something I very much respect. I don’t know if all bars do that but either way I love that they do. LIVEMUSIC: blues and very cool. and I don’t even like blues but I had a GREAT time AND I was sober! Wonder how awesome would it be if I had imbibed!

I don’t know much about Friends Bar.* But what I know is threefold: 1. The blues band was good. Better than we expected. 2. Patron is the only halfway decent tequila they have. 3. There is a fish tank, and damned if those fish weren’t digging the blues. _____________ *I suppose I do know bars, but I have no friends :(

My favorite music bar in austin. Great entertainment every time I’ve been there. Very nice servers until closing time. Then they become bouncers. Har har.

Great bar. They have a nice line up of live music. The bartender was actually from Brooklyn and he gave us all the tips and pointers we needed to have a great Austin visit. The blues music they play was down home loving style and I could hear it from the street. They also have a random fish tank behind the bar. Cool.

We had a great time here watching a great band. Like other reviewers have mentioned, the bathrooms are kinda gross and don’t have locks on the doors. The service was friendly but they did not circulate to the tables. Prices were moderate. Drinks were standard. I would return if the music was good but wouldn’t hang out here for drinks otherwise.

This is place has a good vibe and always has live music playing! Took my friend here from out of town on a wind. They move slower then a pregnant snail with their sloth like service. Nothing was more surprising from a bar called FRIENDS then an unfriendly bartender. Tommy walked by us with his eyes to the floor when we had empty drinks. Working in the industry this is hard to write but the neglect I received was appalling. When we finally found out his name he responded with«What» ! This guy needs a slap in the face with a Molly pill or go the Kurt contain route

Really fun blues bar, great music. I’m on a short vacation here in Austin and the music drew me in. I would give five stars, but the bathroom stall didn’t have a lock(and you know how drunk people can be). I would go back!

Gigantic Sixth Street bar that has cheap drinks, friendly bartenders, lots of room to spread out, and really good live music. In fact, with the front windows open, this place is one of the loudest on the whole street, so it’s hard not to get sucked in here. Worth a quick stop as part of a Sixth Street/downtown bar crawl.

Wow really had a good time at this place and close to my hotel. Its right on 6th where all the action takes place. Loved the music and the vibe. For sure will come back when I’m back in Austin.

I visited Austin a few weeks ago for work, and a group of us went a few days early to experience the weekend. We went back to 6th street twice and both times we visited Friends Bar. The bartenders were great, the place is a lot of fun, and they played some of the best live music we heard in Austin! 6th street is VERY commercial and many of these places are a little overdone, but we loved Friends Bar. Even on a weeknight when everywhere else was a little less lively, the bands brought in the crowd and fun. The drinks are cheap and good, I would definitely revisit for a fun night out!

I stopped by here cause I heard some solid rock music and it was one of the first bars I saw on the strip that had a band playing. Nothing special about this spot but if you like what you’re hearing outside, you should definitely check it out and give the band some love. Don’t forget to grab a beer, it’s free admission, it’s only right.

My 2nd bar in Austin. The 1st one was just too awful to mention. It wasn’t really the bar’s fault for attracting the sleazy college wannabe types(LOL). Regardless. I had my 1st cover band experience at Friends, and it was awesome. The bartender was friendly, and the place was packed for a Monday night. Stayed for the next band, bought a round of drinks to some handsome looking women of Texas to my left, and moved on to the next music venue across the street. U gotta love Austin.

For the drinks, two stars. For the music, three stars. Drinks — yeah, they’re fine. But why so much freakin’ ice?! I swear they optimize the ice cube packing techniques for each glass. I got probably about 25% of the glass’s volume in liquid if I was lucky. And someone came by and cleared my unfinished drink while I was dancing on the floor. That kind of pissed me off, actually. The music is great though. Erin Jaimes(booking manager and blueswoman extraordinaire) knows what she’s doing even if she cranks the main speakers past comfortable hearing levels. I wear earplugs when I go – and I’m so thankful that I do. Gotta love them sweet natural blues… you’ll hear a selection of Austin’s finest and up-and-coming blues artists. But geez, if you’re gonna sell me ice and charge me a premium, don’t clear my drink before I’m done.

I checked this place out with my good friend while I was on a recent business trip to Austin. This was my first time to Austin and what I loved about the city is there is so much variety in food and live music. This was our last stop of the night after we had already seen country/folk music and also hit up a jazz bar. The blues at Friends that night was awesome. A lot of SRV and Texas blues.
