Great burger zero complaints. The service was friendly and the burger was delicious. Pocket friendly as well. Highly recommend.

A great Austin chain that never seems to disappoint. This particular location is a true gem when it comes to burger joints, it is a great eatery both in its timeless menu and just the great general vibe of the place. At a glance it looks just like what it is … an old«hole in the wall» burger place, but when it comes to the food … the burgers are top notch and the supporting menu is really hard to beat as well! The employees are nice and friendly when taking your order. The place is very open to families and the pricing for the burgers is just right. I recommend this burger place to anyone looking for a great tasting burger, but don’t just go for the burgers, do your tastebuds a favor and try it sometime for breakfast as well. Good stuff all day long!

Dangit, why am I not there right now? 1 day of spending $ 60+ at the Shake Shack for burgers, fries and drinks with my kids, we stopped in Dan’s for more burgers, fries and drinks. While Dan’s didn’t give us the opportunity to spend more than $ 20(thank you!), they did provide us with fantastic burgers and unlimited Big Red(they had my teen son won over for life at that). The large bacon cheeseburgers were amazing and I will take the somewhat divey diner over the corporate chic atmosphere any day. My only regret came when I saw one of our neighbors feasting on the best looking onions rings I have seen in a long time. Writing this review and thinking about those delicious on an empty stomach was not a good idea, as I now immediately need to

I’m so happy to have found this place! Dans Hamburgers is an oasis in a sea of over priced restaurants that claim to serve breakfast but all they have is breakfast tacos. This place has breakfast tacos at a good price and so much more. I ordered the 2 eggs plate with sausage, hash browns, delicious refried beans, and coffee. The service was friendly and attentive and the place was full of happy people, many of whom seemed to be regulars. My partner are now TFTF for under $ 17(before tip). :-)

I had a medium burger, fries, and a vanilla shake. The best way to describe Dan’s: it tastes like a greasier, diner version of Whataburger. The burger was very tasty. If you’re into greasy burgers, I recommend it. The fries were not that great and the shake was good, nothing unique but it was creamy and tasty. I’d come again!

1st visit. Great customer service, clean and friendly environment! Average prices… Ordered small double bacon cheeseburger small fry and small shake. Very filling. As good as the burger was I still couldn’t finish it. I couldn’t imagine a large! Fries and shake where decent also. But the name explains it all! Dans BURGERS! I’m sure I’ll be back!

Love this place for breakfast. I’ve had the delicious breakfast tacos before and they were great. Today I got the huevos rancheros. Oh boy yum. The ranchero sauce is great. Lots of flavor with a little heat From the japalenos. Gotta luv that. The breakfast potatoes are awesome. Little squares of pillowy goodness with a crisp outside. Got the eggs over easy. Cooked perfect. The refried beans are spot on with flavor. Comes with bacon or sausage. I got bacon and it was perfectly cooked. It comes with 2 flour tortillas that taste homemade. You can ask for some homemade salsa. They have some of the best I’ve ever had. Highly recommend this place for breakfast.

Dan’s Hamburgers is my go to place for when I craving a cheeseburger, and they are open later than most burger places without being fast food. This is a real sit down burger place with a long history in Austin. The burgers are huge without being expensive, and are quality meat grilled perfectly without the cost of hake Shack or Hopdoddy. They don’t need fancy toppings like the places that throw some unconventional stuff in there to justify charging $ 5 more. Just a classic cheeseburger like Dan’s has been making it for a long time. The owner actually divorced his wife Fran and so there are some places in Austin called Fran’s burgers too.(They’re also good, and similar, but it’s like eating a Big Mac in a foreign country, it seems the same and yet everything is different.) My favorite is to order their crispy fries and then splash a generous amount of Tabasco on them. Amazing. They are always popular and busy yet manage to fit a large number of people into this space on N Lamar. Having diner chairs instead of immobile booths helps a lot so even if you come during the lunch rush, there’s a spot you can sit in. The staff is consistently friendly and cheerful and the service is relatively quick given that everything is made to order.

Great food but hit or miss on the staff. There is one lady who runs the register and is SO nice and friendly, then there’s another woman who is surly and communicates with grunts and glares — hey Dan’s how about leaving the Grouch working the grill?

TLDR: Dan’s is excellent. Go Eat There! Dan’s Hamburgers reminds me that there are really two ‘tiers’ when it comes to burgers. One is the ‘gourmet burger’ tier, one that is defined by exotic meats(elk, boar, cougar, California condor) and exotic add-ons(brioche buns, arugula, snake venom, unicorn tears). The other is the ‘damn good backyard burger’, which is a simpler thing that seeks to impress with little more than a properly done patty, a plain bun, and more ‘common joe’ toppings. A place like Hopdoddy’s is an example of the former. Dan’s should be the avatar of the latter. What I term as juicy, other less-enlightened people would call ‘greasy as hell’. Ah, but it’s so good. The service is friendly, the dining area pleasantly divey, and the fries are delish. One tip: you get to choose from three sizes of burger here — small, medium, and large. The cashier I spoke with explained that’s a 3oz, 4oz, and 6oz patty, respectively. As a point of reference, a McDee’s Quarter Pounder, would thus be a ‘medium’. Order accordingly! This place pegs the ‘CTJ Scale’ at 5 stars, as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. Would be OK passing on after finishing a plate here. 4 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Mary good. Would be OK being seen eating here by Mother Mary. 3 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Joseph good. Would be OK having a beer here with Jesus’ Dad. 2 out of 5 stars: Come-to-the-Apostles good. Meh. Wouldn’t have my last supper here. 1 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Nobody good. I wouldn’t have my penultimate supper here, either.

Yes, the burgers here are greasy, but it is so good. Bacon cheeseburger and curly fries. The buns are always warm or hot even when I order takeout. Burgers come in different sizes SML, so if you’re craving a burger but don’t want to feel guilty, get a small. Med sizes are kinda big. If I crave a burger, it would be a Dan’s burger, not a hopdoddy’s burger. So much cheaper and more satisfying. Although it would be hard to choose between the Dan’s curly fries and hopdoddy’s chile queso fries. My other favorite is here the biscuit and gravy. Half order. Because the full order can feed two people. Breakfast tacos are not bad. You can custom order tacos. The restaurant doesn’t look all that clean, it is an old fashioned hamburger joint. And they finally came around to accepting credit cards! Parking is hectic during peak hours.

Dan’s is one of my favorite breakfast places. I absolutely love their breakfast tacos, they load them up so much food that they barely close. I really enjoy their house made salsa on the tacos. It doesn’t have any heat to it, but the fteshness of the ingredients really adds a pleasant taste to the tacos. Fantastic tacos aside, this morning I was hungry for a traditional breakfast(for me anyway). I got the two eggs over medium with bacon, Texas toast and refried beans. It also came with some salsa which I ate with the beans, mmm. It was perfect. I even like their coffee mugs. They are the old fashioned large white mugs I remember from way back when. I’ve tried to find some to buy for home, but no luck so far. That’s just another excuse to go to Dans. P. S.Their biscuits are a sight to behold. If you like biscuits and gravy(who doesnt), they do it well.

I haven’t been to this location since 2007 or earlier, ANDTHEFOODISSTILLREALLYGOOD!!! I had their HB Steak dinner, mash potatoes, salad. Mom had the jalepeno HB/FFs, strawberry malt. We killed it!!! The cashiers & wait staff were very friendly. AS soon as a customer left, they were cleaning the tables, love it. I guess I need to come more often… lol 7.25.15

I would give it 4.5 stars because the cashier whispered the whole time and constantly rolled her eyes or closed them in a strange and off putting way, but it’s a burger joint with good prices so can’t expect much from a cashier… I got the large jalapeño cheeseburger and my husband got a double cheeseburger. We split a large curly fry and 2 drinks. $ 20 buck is not too bad for piping hot Delish burgers and side and drinks. I definitely recommend them if you are craving a non fancy but tasty burger.

Once upon a time, forty years ago, two star-crossed lovers started a burger joint. Until Mr. & Mrs. Junk got divorced in 1990, and two Austin icons were born. The true love/hate story of Dan’s vs. Fran’s Hamburgers is just as dramatically good! I’ve tried both hotspots, but my vote goes to Dan. Why? There’s something about his Onion Rings! Where else can you get a freshly made with love hamburger for as low as $ 2.44 nowadays? Experience the cheap, fast, friendly diner with awesome«junk food» by the Junk Family that Keeps Austin Weird.

Dan’s never disappoints. If you’re a vegetarian or a vegan, stop reading now. This is not a place you’ll find any rabbit food. There are no salads but you do have the option for getting a bunless burger and I’ve heard they make a mean grilled cheese. I frequent this location every time I’m home in Austin and always when I’m looking at planning lunch with my Grandpa. Prices are cheap and burgers are juicy. Think old school diner. Cooked when you order and cooked how you want it. Patties can be thin so if you’re extra hungry, a small or a single patty might not do it for you. Prices are good regardless of size of the burger Small hickory cheeseburger is my go to item $ 2.79($ 3.02 after tax and paying for extra sauce) Onion rings(small order) $ 1.79 crunchy and flavorful. My grandfather and I usually share a small order because a large is just too much for us. Curly fries are spot on, too! Don’t let the interior fool you. The booths are fresh from the early 90’s but the burgers will blow you away. Pro tip: when getting a burger with sauce(mustard, mayo, BBQ, ketchup) order extra sauce if you want more than just a tiny dollop in the middle of the burger.

The man who was working behind the counter was very polite and friendly. I don’t think it was just him, though. Because while I was dining in there, there were a couple other staff who worked the counter and they were also as polite and friendly when they were helping other customers as the man who was helping me. The burgers come in three sizes: small(2 oz), medium(4 oz), and large(6 oz). Seriously though, who eats a burger with a 2 oz patty? Maybe the small ones are meant for kids? I had the large bacon cheeseburger with an order of large onion rings. I had to wait a bit for my order because they were cooked to order. However, it didn’t take too long for my order to be ready. The onion rings were breaded just right. Not too greasy and definitely tasty. The bacon cheeseburger was legit. Fresh, juicy, and the bacon strips came out perfect. Next time I’m in Austin and in the area, I’m definitely going to be back. But I’ll probably be ordering a double medium to get my ½ lb burger. P. S. They have free wi-fi you can log in for free for an hour. No password! Sweet.

Seriously? What more could you ask for from a burger joint? Affordable burgers, cooked to your specifications, and delivered from friendly employees. Do you want fresh or pickled jalapenos? Fresh or grilled onions? Mustard or Mayo(don’t choose mayo… please go with mustard, bc… it’s just the right thing to do.) Yes…getting out of that parking lot can be hell at peak traffic times. And will you be transported back to your high school days when flocks of you and your peers congregated together after school??? — yes, there are DROVES of high schoolers who come here to grab a cheap meal after school. But really, surprisingly solid fare here. I would honestly put these burgers up against any other burger in town. And they come in a small, medium or large size and are cooked medium well.

Well, my love for Dan’s is slowly fading. It all has to do with this very angry oger that works the register. I don’t know if its a personal thing, or she’s just like that all the time. I usually takeout breakfast tacos from here(the tacos are the only thing I’ve ever had and they are bomb!!! egg bacon potato and cheese), call it in and pick it up. Well when I go to pick up the same lady is always super rude, the last time I asked where the restroom was she asked if I was a customer, I said yes I have a takeout order but really need to use restroom first(was about to pee myself). She said«take care of your order first and pay before you go», Well then I paid left my food there and went to use the restroom. When I returned I asked for extra salsa, she said its in the bag, I looked in and only saw one salsa per taco, I asked her again nicely for extra salsa she said«Its in the bag!» and turned around and walked away. I would have paid extra if I needed to but I didnt even get the chance to offer that. May have to switch to Torchys… Salsa natzi is killing it for me.
