History
Established in 2011.
Curious Confections LLC is a bakery located in South Austin, in the heart of central Texas. It is the product of two people from distant sides of the planet who met and formed a team that is unique, and possessing a slightly skewed outlook on the world of baked goods and confections.
Between the English Baker and the American «Mad Scientist», we deliver a passion for quality ingredients, a creative past including cinematic special effects, sculpting and graphic arts, and we are both perfectionists striving to get every detail just right. We believe there is very little we can’t make once we set our minds to it.
Meet the Business Owner
Gemma M.
Business Owner
Gemma’s interest in cooking started young, perched on a stool in the corner of her Grandmother’s kitchen asking questions and «helping» as well as any young child does. As she got older she actually helped and her interest developed.
After a brief foray into the Sciences when she was a teenager she returned to cooking and gave up a degree in Animal Science to go to Culinary School.
With two years of culinary studies under her belt and a couple of years working in a restaurant in Wales she met Michael and moved to Austin, TX.
Spending a further year in education once she moved across the Atlantic she specialised in Patisserie and Baking and Curious Confections was conceived.
Gemma and Michael welcomed the passing of the cottage food bill in 2011 which allowed her to sell from her home kitchen and was ecstatic when it was furthered in 2013 allowing her to sell at markets. Hope Farmers Market in Austin welcomed them with open arms and Gemma can’t wait to see where we’ll head to now!
