Castle Floors did a fantastic job with the backsplash in our kitchen. Stephanie was very helpful in the store, but also gave us plenty of room to look around and come up with what we wanted with absolutely zero pressure.
Julian spent a lot of time, at the end of what I’m sure had been a long day for him, measuring our kitchen and discussing with us options for how to tile everything. He was super thorough and thought of everything we didn’t think of! For example, he proposed that we tile around the inside of our window rather than putting on a windowsill. It looks amazing!
When we discovered that one of the tiles we picked had been discontinued, Julian called around the country trying to find stock. When they were nowhere to be found, he talked through options with us and I think really helped us pick the best one. When the tile was delayed on arriving, he was in constant contact with us letting us know when it would arrive, even on his day off.
Once the tile arrived and it was time to get to work, Jose, the tile installer, was so professional. He is truly an artist at what he does and worked a very long day to make sure our kitchen would still be done quickly despite the delay on the tile delivery. He made such tiny cuts to fill in around our ceiling and window, and constantly went above and beyond to make sure our tile was perfect.
When Jose was done, Julian came back, throughly inspected everything with me, and made sure I was happy. He also made it clear if we discovered anything in the future, that they would come out and fix it.
I cannot recommend Castle Flooring enough!

I want in with a client to look for new flooring today and I believe she was the owner of the shop who I was dealing with.
First off I had to ask her to help me which I think she should be asking if I have any questions or need help. Which she did not. Second, I’m looking for new flooring for a rental property and wanted to find a rental grade flooring that being carpet or hardwood. She showed me what was on the floor and I asked «do you have anything possibly a lower grade just for a rental or do I need to go somewhere else»
Her response «well you don’t need to be so abrasive»
I told her that I was sorry I’m just direct and that I’m trying to figure this out today. She then proceeded to tell me that my personality is rude and abrasive
Let me just say being a business owner that I would never tell any customer this. Ever! You have a product to sell lady and you aren’t good at it!
I will never take a client into this store again!

Had a great experience working with Julian and his staff. They did an amazing job on our kitchen back splash. Brad, the tile gentleman, was a true craftsman. He was the hardest working person we have had on this project and he did an excellent job. Can’t say enough positive things here and I am not one to leave reviews on Unilocal. I aplaud you Castle Flooring.

Julian has a small shop but it’s full of all kinds of different product. I’ve bought both wood and tile from him and found his selection to be very good and prices competitive. I much prefer dealing with Castle than one of the bigger companies.

Beware of Castle Flooring. They destroyed my husband’s health with a wood floor repair. They do not understand the sensitivity to moisture that wood has. They have no experience and they pretend they do. My husband has been wearing a charcoal mask since December when they used a harmful chemical and did no air out as specified. My husband then sat in the home for 2 hours breathing in this chemical while it was curing. He has not been able to return home for 7 months! We are having to sell our home because of them. My life is hell since our encounter with them. I am not a person who exaggerates and when I say hell I mean hell.

I used Castle Flooring to order tile and not for contract work. I wish I had come here sooner. They had so many tile options to choose from and Stephanie was great in helping me find the tile I was looking for and finding the right color to match my kitchen counter tops. It was like having a personal interior decorator. I was able to «rent» a few tiles to take home in order to make a final decision. The ordering process was easy and the tile arrived in store 4 days later. They were also quick to give me updates on the eta. Great customer service.

Called Julian and explained that I needed tile removed and the mortar underneath for a smooth finish that could be resurfaced to a stained concrete finish in my kitchen. Julian was quick to respond with a reasonable quote. He walked me through the process and went over two people would be coming with a tile removal demolition hammer, a morter removal bit and a diamond tipped floor refinishing buffer with a vacuum attachment to keep dust down.
Imagine my surprise when the workman showed up with a tool rented from home depot and a mortar removal bit that didn’t fit the tool. He apologized but said he would make it work by just using the demolition bit but that it may damage the slab. Really, not even willing to go get the right bit? Also, he said the diamond tip buffer with vacuum was not something their company had. Why then was this the process explained to me?
When calling Julian to explain that I would like to have what was originally communicated, he got very defensive and told me that no one in Austin could do what I was asking. A horrible experience.

I’d give this no stars if I could, but then I wouldn’t be able to leave my review. BEWARE: THE OWNER JULIAN DOESN’T HAVE A DAMN CLUE WHAT HE’S TALKING ABOUT!!! I was told over the phone by Julian that the thinset removal process they use was a dust free procedure and that’s what they were going to use. 9:30am on Saturday rolls around and the one person who was going to remove the tile and thinset shows up with A TOOL RENTAL FROM HOME DEPOT!!! You’d thinking being a flooring company that they would have the proper materials to get the job done. NOPE!!!
I immediately stop the guy from removing any further tiles to ask him what the procedure was to remove the thinset, he said they he was just going to chip away at the thinset with a demo hammer attachment! Keep in mind, I was installing concrete floors, so I needed the floor to be pretty smooth.
I tell the guy at my house that Julian told me that they were going to use a floor grinder with a vacuum attachment to remove the dust from the house and blow it outside. None of this was true when his assistant showed up to do the work!
Make sure you clarify with Julian before you sign anything what the procedure is before the job is even started!

Julian was really helpful in helping me find the right flooring – even though it took me several months to finally pull the trigger.
The prices seem comparable to what you’d find in one of those discount stores and you’d be supporting a locally owned business.

When I read the other reviews for Castle Flooring, I realize that Unilocal is «crazy town». Notice that Julian Sanchez either gets 5 stars or 1 star. Makes me wonder if those one star reviews are from nasty competitors! That said, I give this family business 5 stars for their professional, helpful assistance, their great product lines, and their honesty in all dealings.
We did a gut rehab on our entire first floor and ordered much hardwood, tile and backsplash tile. They were very helpful with storage of product until we were ready to install. The project is almost complete and it would never be this beautiful without the expert opinions/​help from Stephanie and Julian. This is my 6^th house renovation and I can say that Castle Flooring is a top notch outfit run by a very pleasant and accommodating couple. Most highly recommended!

BIG MISTAKE. Castle installed laminate flooring and tile in our house a few years back. The installer failed to properly screw down the loose second floor decking and instead just pounded it down with a hammer. It later popped back up. This resulted in loud squeaking in various rooms. The padding they laid down was so thin and cheap, if you dropped anything on the floor it made a loud, sharp, echoing noise. Julian failed to write down details as we specified including the orientation of the marble tile in one of the bathrooms –so it was installed at the wrong angle. When I pointed it out to the installer he told me it was too late to change it and that «it would be easier to lift the house up and rotate it». Julian himself painted the quarter-​round wood trim but was always running behind, keeping the installer waiting. I saw him painting it with a crusty brush straight out of the gallon can of paint that I supplied (rather than using a smaller container to prevent the paint from drying). Needless to say the finish was also crusty and full of streaks. They also didn’t seal the qtr. round trim to the baseboard so it trapped dirt in the subsequent years and was a REAL PAIN to FIX as it all had to be REDONE later. I tried to be helpful and explain to Julian how he could do better but he snapped at me and accused me of «trying to tell him how to do his job». The PRICE was NOT CHEAP so there really no excuse for the lack of quality and proper attention.

Went to buy some tile, Julian’s wife asked if she could help, gave her the tile name and maker, said they didn’t have it, then said she had to leave. Julian’s by the door on the phone the whole time, never once offered to assist. Rude, arrogant. I will never go back to them & do not recommend.

It isn’t often you find people as knowledgable, caring, and professional as Julian and Stephanie, the owners of Castle Flooring. They are patient — wanting you to have the very best information so you can make an informed decision about something as important as your flooring. You won’t go wrong trusting your floors to them.

Castle Flooring is a family-​owned business, run by great people. We recently had them do two bathroom tile floors and a kitchen backsplash for us in an effort to spruce up our place prior to listing it for sale. Julian was exceptionally informative, had great ideas about how to lay the tile for the best visual impact, and the price charged was well under what we initially expected. He even steered us to a less expensive flooring option than the one we picked initially because he thought it was a better fit for our needs. He was right — it’s excellent.
The installer he sent over took longer than we had initially expected, but that was because he took extra time to install everything properly and make sure it was perfect. This was a point of consternation at the time, but turned out to be for the better. The job looks great, and the beautiful floors and backsplash helped us to sell our house in 4 days, well above asking price.
We will absolutely use them for flooring work in our new home, and will recommend them to any friends who need work done.

People — look at the ‘filtered’ reviews. Basically 24 five star reviews. Many of them more ‘qualified’ than the 2 negative ones here that were allowed (hmmmm)…
Make sure you take those into consideration as well.
Anyways, Julian is great. I completely remodeled my bathroom and got all the tile from Julian. He was very helpful, very nice, very timely, professional, and affordable.
I’ve been in his store no less than 8 times now and will be going back for some wall tile. Each time the same — great. I shopped around a lot to tons of tile places. His service is at the top.
I admit, it helps that his location is so near my house, but that should apply to anyone looking for tile down south who doesn’t want to travel to the tile corridor way up north. Thats an obvious bonus. However the fact that he was also as good as anyone up north just sealed the deal (if not better than all them).

After spending a lot of time getting different quotes from different places, I finally picked Castle Flooring, and I am so thankful that I did! I would definitely recommend them! Julian was great! He helped me pick out a wonderful wood floor that looks great in my new place! He also fit me into his install schedule right away and kept me in the loop during the project. He was also proactive in reaching out to the property manager making sure everything was approved and done correctly. I didn’t have to do anything!
Julian is a perfectionist, and during the final walkthrough he found a smudge mark from the glue. He had his installers come the very next day to fix it. I would have never even noticed the imperfections. I get compliments on the floor all the time from people that don’t even know I just had them done. I would 100% use Castle Flooring again. Next time, for the backsplash in my kitchen.

I am just about to complete my third project with Castle Flooring and I keep coming back for a reason! Castle Flooring is wonderful to work with.
They have a wonderful selection of flooring, and if they don’t have it in stock, they can order it for you. I have done two of the projects on my own (wood floor and tile floor) and Julian has been so wonderful to give advice and tips. He is super knowledgeable and really great to work with (I have even called him up over the phone to seek his advice!).
The third project involved having one of his guys repair some damaged wood floor. It turned out fantastic! His repair guy was on time, courteous, and even stayed late to get it just right.
Castle Flooring is a laid back, no pressure kind of place where you can get honest answers and opinions and VERY fair prices. I love that it is a local business and they treat you like your business really matters. Go see them!

Since we had just purchased the home, we were very price sensitive and Julian worked with us to keep the costs under control, even offering me advice and some light training on things I could do myself to prep the space and save some money. It’s VERY rare to find such a considerate and understanding contractor who’s willing to lose a few bucks provided the homeowner has some basic handyman skills to prep the job.
Travis, the installer, was prompt each of the three days he did the work. He spent a full 8 hours just repairing the existing wall — 20 years old, site of former heavy brick fireplace AND subsequently site of a built out curtain wall. He wrestled with our firebox, ground down cement, grout and adhesive to get a plumb surface before we laid a single tile.
Once the prep was done, the tiles got in fast and perfect. Even with levels and steady hand I can’t detect a wave (and these are tiny flexible sheets of tile that are very unforgiving. There was an usual grouting issue at the end as we opted for a hearth even with the floor which left a difficult transition between the new tile and our existing tile floor. Travis had some ideas, I had some ideas, and Julian was on the phone with us in minutes receiving photos from our phones and evaluating the options. We ended up with a creative fix that beautifully transitioned and was well «outside the box» of a standard installation technique. Travis worked late that day to pull off our last-​minute design change.
The next day, after Travis was gone, Julian called and emailed us to make sure everything was up to our standards (and my wife and I can fairly be described as «difficult» clients) and offered to send Travis back if we wanted something changed. And all the work is backed by a lifetime guarantee, so if there’s something not currently apparent, I’m confident I can get Julian back here to fix it pronto.

I bought a condo last year and needed some extra tiles to match what is currently throughout the condo. I’ve searched high and low for something that matches and haven’t found the tile or something that came close to matching. I drive down S. Lamar everyday and thought it’s probably right there at the place I drive by. So I FINALLY stopped by. Wish I had done it sooner!
It used to be an old service station and they even have a picture from the 50’s to prove it, which was kinda cool. The selection is AMAZING! Gorgeous selection, lots of unique stuff and felt like they had the latest of the latest. There’s usually only one or two people working so you might have to wait a little while but take the time to really look through everything.
Needless to say, they had a tile that was the closest we’ve found so far. They let me borrow a sample to take home and I accidentally kept it for a week not realizing there was a 48 hour rule but they were cool about it. Not sure about all prices but of course my tile was a little high. If you’re looking for some good advice and good selection, try a local guy and go here.
Only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars was because they do have wood flooring as well but I didn’t look at any of that…

My boyfriend and I were on the hunt for some tile ideas for a renovation we are doing. We have spent the last month looking at tiles, concrete stains, cabinets and many other things. As far as tile: we were considering tile backsplash in the kitchen, full shower tile and tile flooring. We pass by Castle Flooring alot and finally decided to go in and check it out.
We didn’t know what to expect. We didn’t know anyone that even knew about the place. The tile samples they have out in front aren’t exactly our style, the place is pretty small and the sign out front about the Antique Shop can throw off even the most determined customer.
We walk in, greeted by a 3 year old, Julian and his wife. Julian walked up to us and asked us the typical retail question «Is there anything I can help you with today?» And frankly we weren’t real sure if he could since we were having a hard time verbalizing what we wanted exactly. So I spoke up and basically told him just that. «We are not sure what we want, we aren’t even sure tile is the way we want to go. But wanted to check out our tile options. We have an idea of a style that we like. Is that enough for you to go on?»
Julian was very patient. He had us sit down and began asking the questions: What point are you in the project? What basic style are you going for in the condo? Are you looking for floor, shower or backsplash tile? With regard to kitchen, are you looking for dark or light colored cabinets? What type of countertops (they sell ceasarstone)? Will you have undercounter lighting? We found we were able to give answers to most of the questions. He gave us some really great ideas for mixing and matching tile color and size. He really brought together alot of our ideas and gave us the big picture for the condo. He started putting together a palate of tiles that we were really happy with. He let us take the samples home. This gave us the opportunity to match paint, think about furniture, look at the colors in the natural light of the condo and some of the other things we needed to do.
We kept the samples for about 2 weeks, it was time for the next step. Get Julian to the condo so we could start the process of figuring out costs, quantity and what would truly work in the condo. We scheduled Julian to come out to the condo. We scheduled the meeting for 8am during a weekday. Julian calls my boyfriend at 8am that day saying «Hi _​_​_​_​_​, this is a courtesy call to remind you about our meeting this morning.[HUH?] I’m on my way to your condo. I should be there in a few minutes.» 30 minutes later [How did he get that wrong?] we see him walk up to the front of the building. He was neither apologetic nor seemed to think it was a big deal that he was 30 minutes late to our scheduled meeting. Have you ever been 30 min late to a business meeting? I bet you didn’t get that deal!
We get to the condo and we start introducing the space to him. He immediately asks about the floor tile and we say to him that we’ve decided to do stained concrete floors so we just need shower tile and kitchen backslash tile. Suddenly he is void of ideas for the space, he measured only one corner of one wall in the entire place and sent us in a completely different direction from the original tile selection we had for the bathrooms.
My boyfriend and I were less than impressed by this meeting with him. He told us he would call us with a quote for the materials and labor by the next morning. We have yet to hear from him, it’s been about 2 months. Needless to say once a few days passed and we hadn’t heard from him we took his original ideas, picked out the tile from «The Tile Guy», who BTW has the BEST prices in town that we found, and found someone else to do the work for us.
We think he got pissed that we decided not to do the floor in tile, and then just didn’t want the job because of that reason. The floor would have been his money maker, ’cause it’s easier than shower tile. We still would have liked a ‘courtesy call’ from him to let us know that he didn’t want the job because it wasn’t what he was expecting.
I have to say that our experience with construction contractors/​sub-​contractos in general has left a very, very, very bad taste in our mouths. They care nothing for the work that you’ve put into a space or for your time. We have had to redo work that’s already been done by either us or other contractors, because these people only care about getting to the next job. They have been consistently late in starting a job or meeting with us to straighten out details of a job. Why is this kind of shoddy service acceptable in this industry? This means you too Castle Flooring!
