Dr. Walters and his staff are fantastic. I received great consultation and exceptional and very clean surgical work on my foot. He listens to you, answers your questions genuinely and gives you his suggestions. Linda is great at the front desk, always smiling and cordial. She was good about keeping up to date with my insurance coverage. She also always remembered to ask about our baby that was born last year just after my first surgery. Natalie and Vernique in the back are top notch. They are friendly and easy to get along with as well as professional and attentive. They answered all my questions with patience (because it seemed like I had a lot) and always took their time. They too remembered about the baby which made every appointment a comforting experience. I always feel like everyone actually cares about me when I am there and not just another patient.

Dr. Mereau and her staff were awesome. I went in for bunion surgery, and while the recovery was tough, after 10 weeks I’m back in normal shoes and able to exercise. 5 weeks after the surgery I was in sneakers, Uggs, or Birkenstocks, and a few weeks after that could wear almost any flat. Highly recommend this practice!

The medical assistant at the front went above and beyond, answering my questions.
The MA in the back office, however, was the most unprofessional I’ve ever experience in a medical office. She called me to the back and looked me up and down the entire journey to the back, without saying a word. Then, as she was taking my foot xray she said, «oh here we go» and rolled her eyes… Then alone in the room she asked what my symptoms are, and I said «pain on the top of my foot caused by running» She asked me to describe the pain, I said «deep bone pain in the top of my foot and swelling on the second metatarsal». She then starts inappropriately laughing AT ME. I was shocked so I just quit responding. I then heard her outside consulting with the doctor about me saying, «patient is experiencing indescribable pain». LIE: THAT’S NOT WHAT I SAID AT ALL. I WAS SPECIFIC IN THE AREA OF THE FOOT AND TYPE OF PAIN.
Dr. Walters gave an anti-​inflammatory prescription and other good suggestions… but midway through the consult the rude assistant STORMED INTO THE ROOM and stood in the corner eyeing me down/​making faces and began laughing again (code of privacy: she is supposed to ask patient if they feel comfortable with her in the room before entering). Outside an OBGYN appointment I’ve never had an MA sit in on a doctor consult… she’s not a residency student, it’s highly inappropriate and goes against my right to consult privately.
WTF! I don’t think writing a complaint will create any change. I’ll just not return.

Dr. Steven Walters and his entire staff are exceptional! After surgery with a previous doctor and years of foot pain, Dr. Walters worked with me to thoroughly explore all of my non-​surgical options first. After we exhausted those, he performed a complex surgery on my foot this past May. I am now pain-​free for the first time in four years! (To say that’s amazing is an understatement.) Beyond his expertise and leadership in his field, Dr. Walters really cares about his patients and listens to them closely. I’ve referred several family members and friends to him with great results, too. All of the people in the office are friendly and professional, and they keep appointments running on time (which I love). When to see Dr. Steven A. Walters to look at pain that I have had in my ankles for years. I had been to other podiatrists in the past and they couldn’t diagnose me. He had an idea of what it could be and ordered a CT scan. When the results came back he diagnosed me with having a tarsal coalition in both my feet. We made specific shoe inserts for my condition and the pain in my ankles has been dramatically less since then!

I came to Dr. Walter’s with painful bunions AND in-​grown toenails (maybe as a result of the bunions, who knows– gross!). I ended up having surgery on both feet (separately, about three months apart), and couldn’t be happier with the results. He removed the in-​grown toenails and put some medicine in that would prevent their return– my toes feel better than they have in years! The foot surgeries also went smoothly– and I had been so nervous! I spent years reading online forums about «what to expect» before finally pulling the trigger and seeing a surgeon, and I wish I’d not waited so long!
Surgery itself was a breeze (because I was, you know, asleep…)! The day of, I showed-​up at around 6:30am for a 7:30am procedure– they put me in a heated gown (Bear-​Paw something?) and connected an IV. I met the anesthesiologist, who was kind of hilarious, and saw Dr. Walter’s before they put me under. When I woke up after the first surgery, I was pretty nauseous, so after the second they gave me an anti-​nausea patch that made a big difference. I felt great, which seemed weird, and my foot was in a huge bandage. You’ll wheel around in a chair until someone can come pick you up (usually an hour or so post-​surgery), where you’ll transfer to the person (and whatever sort of walking device you brought with you– crutches, in my case). I slept for the rest of the day, and much of the following few days as well. I took Ibuprofen, but wasn’t really in pain (due to the «blocking» shot I think they give at the surgery center). After 3 – 4 days, I no longer needed Ibuprofen, and just found being without a working foot obnoxious, and nothing more.
From my understanding, typical healing goes like this: Week 1: Surgery Wrap; Week 2: Cast #1; Weeks 2 and 3: Cast #2; Weeks 4 and 5: Boot (but still not weight-​bearing); Week 6 and 7: Walking in the Boot; Week 8 and 9: Walking in sneakers; Week 10: You graduate! Normal shoes! I think this process can change a bit depending on your healing.
Great staff, incredible doctors– don’t look anywhere else for foot and ankle pain!

Couldn’t be more pleased with my procedure. The staff is BEYOND friendly. Dr. Mereau was professional and the procedure was virtually pain free! Compared to my last experience with a foot doctor, I will ONLY return here. Thank you guys for making me feel 10x better!

Needed a podiatrist that is closer to me and my work. This place worked out great. The staff were all nice and Dr. Walters was very helpful and had a great attitude also. Place was a little harder to find but I blame the GPS for that. Thanks again!

My husband injured his big toe on a Sunday. After researching doctors, I settled on Capital Foot and Ankle. I particularly liked the sound of Dr. Steven Walters. So I found their website and emailed from their page to call me, that we needed to get in ASAP. The next morning (Monday) at 8 AM, I got a call from their office. It was Linda, very kind, very professional. Dr. Walters was booked but they would fit us in at 11; however, be prepared for a wait. Well, by noon, we had been seen, toe xrayed and a diagnosis given – a dislocated AND small fracture of the big toe. Dr. Walters numbed the toe, put it back in place, buddy wrapped it, and put a boot on that foot. He was gentle, kind, professional, knowledgable, quick… Well, I can’t say enough good things. If you have a foot/​ankle problem, this is the doctor to see. He’s awesome! And if you’re reading this, thank you so much, Dr. Walters! You rock!

The doctors might be the best at what they do, but their support staff is leaning toward being the worst. I just called to make an appointment, identifying myself as a new patient who needed to be seen ASAP. I injured my foot last night, and whatever I did to it is making it difficult for me to walk, so time really is a factor for me. The lady on the other end dryly asked for my insurance information, which is an annoying yet standard intake procedure. I expected to provide that information, but I also expected to get the information I needed first. Why would I give her that if I couldn’t get an appointment? She wasn’t exactly rude, but she wasn’t friendly and polite, either. That probably doesn’t matter for some people, but I told her the name as I located for my insurance card so I could give her the details, and again asked her about the availability. She refused to answer the question, instead asking for my insurance information for a second time. She actually seemed annoyed that I’d asked about the doctors’ availability a second time. I just hung up and began searching for another podiatry practice. If you’re interested in a medical practice that is more concerned about getting paid than providing quality care and customer service, this place is for you.

Dr. Walters and his crew are awesome. They’re all professional, informative and helpful.
I visited this office for a second opinion and Dr. Walters helped provide other options to help with my foot (bursitis).
Once I exhausted those options, I opted for surgery (neuroma excision). Dr. Walters has done a phenomenal job with my foot as a surgeon. My foot is looking and feeling great. I know it’s because of his talent and skill.
Before, during and after surgery they have all been as accommodating as possible.

How can I explain that my foot surgery experience was amazingly pleasurable? Dr. Walters and his staff came highly recommended to me so I was happy to go to the office. Everything went up from there. (I had extreme pain for years in my foot due to two adjacent hammertoes, a huge callous and the odd walking they caused resulted in debilitating knee pain. A previous podiatrist I saw felt my problem would go away just by changing my shoes. That just prolonged the problem and made the pain increase over time.) Dr. Walters took a look at my foot and knew immediately what I needed. He explained everything to me carefully so I could understand and he gave me time to consider my options. I looked forward to the surgery because the pain was going to go away. Vernique and Linda were very kind to me and they made me feel secure with their positive attitude and their and Dr. Walters great sense of humor. The surgery went very well and I went home feeling fine. I only needed a few pain killers for about 3 days. It has been 6 weeks now and even the scars are going away. I also had 3 rather large ganglion cysts on my ankle which Dr. Walters successfully removed at the same time of my toe surgery. I will always appreciate the help and relief I received from Dr. Walters and his staff. My knee is actually improving now, too. Thank you to Capital Foot and Ankle.

I injured my foot just a couple of weeks before a long-​awaited vacation that was going to involve a lot of walking. After I read reviews here, I made an appointment to see Dr. Walters. Not only did he get my foot back in shape (and save my vacation!) with conservative treatment, but he and his staff (especially his wonderful nurse, Vernique) were some of the most pleasant, courteous and helpful medical folks I’ve had to deal with in years. They really know their stuff, plus they were actually enjoyable to be around! Now if only I could convince him to become my PPO …

We simply cannot say enough good things about Dr. Mereau at Capital Foot and Ankle! To make a long story short, we came from an awful experience with another podiatrist office wherein our son was treated for warts on his foot for over four months. He left that office in worse shape than he went in and he was lucky enough to start treatment with Dr. Mereau. She turned a truly awful experience for our 10-​year-​old son (now 11) into a positive one.
Our first visit Dr. Mereau had to deal with a foot that was in very bad shape. Our son had warts on his toes and bottom of his foot. He had received awful bleomycin shots (a cancer drug very painful for adults, let alone kids) at the other office, which causes terrible blistering (in his case even in areas that weren’t infected with warts), as well as extensive, intense numbing shots that swelled his foot. As a result of all these wounds, the foot developed a staph infection. Dr. Mereau initially couldn’t treat him because his foot was so messed up. She prescribed an antibiotic and took a culture. She sent us home with very specific and clear instructions on how to care for his foot. When the culture results came back she tested it against the antibiotic she had prescribed to make sure it was an effective treatment.
On subsequent visits, Dr. Mereau treated our son’s foot effectively, thoroughly and in such a kind, caring way. She explained to him every step of the way what she was doing to his foot and why. Dr. Mereau opted for a more traditional approach to killing the warts — cantharidin — a natural chemical derived from beetles. I told her that Dr. John had us using an acid every night at home (and duct tape per his instruction) in tandem with lasering for 4 months and it didn’t work. She told us this acid was a lot stronger and that she would apply it once and we’d check back in 3 weeks, i.e., we no longer had to doctor our kid’s foot each and every night (to no avail!)! We agreed to try it. And, Dr. Mereau went even further. She measured our son’s warts and took pictures so that on our follow-​up visits she would be able to measure results. In other words, she didn’t want to keep administering treatment if it wasn’t working. Her goal was clearly the same as ours — get him healthy and no longer needing treatment. In addition, because cantheridin can be painful for a day or so as it blisters the skin, Dr. Mereau prescribed pain medication in case our son needed it. He didn’t but we appreciated her concern. In a very reasonable amount of time, our son’s foot is 100% back to health. In addition, both kids went to her about inserts as well (they’ve worn them for years for pronation problems). She took x-​rays of their feet, explained everything. First time a podiatrist has done that with our kids’ feet re: inserts. It was really informative! Our daughter didn’t need a new pair so Dr. Mereau didn’t try to sell a pair unnecessarily. Our son needed a pair and they fit perfectly when they came back. And — unlike our previous podiatrist — we don’t need to keep coming back every few months for adjustments (and additional charges)…it was one and done. Easy peasy.
If you’re looking for a podiatrist that wants you well and is detailed and efficient, then Dr. Mereau is definitely the doctor for you. She’s amazingly caring, kind and really gets the job done! We were so happy to have found her!

When my husbands tailgating supplies fell out of his SUV and on to my toe I sustained a pretty nasty injury to my toenail.
I was referred to Dr Walters and he and his nurse Veronic made something as terrifying as having your big toe toenail removed a completely hilarious and awesome experience!
It’s pretty scary to get your nail taken off which is why I warned them both I was going to need about the same amount of numbing mediation on my toe as they might give a large elephant.
They reassured me they’d do that and I would not feel a thing and they were right! When I told Veronic that I would still need to hold her hand through the whole procedure she obliged and only complained once that my palms were a little clammy to which I replied, «It comes with the territory you are taking off my toenail for heaven’s sake!»
If you have the unfortunate experience of having to have your toenail removed you can’t do it at a better place. Everyone that works here is fun loving, friendly and hilarious.

Dr. Walters is a true pleasure to deal with. He considered my situation with insurance, was completely helpful, and prescribed me the right stuff for my issues. Great place to work with.
The staff is also brilliant and friendly.

Dr. Trinity Mereau is awesome!!! I have had terrible feet, former runner, several surgeries many years ago, and I am a nurse. I would and do recommend her to everyone. My surgery and recovery have been better than I could have hoped for. Her staff is most helpful. You need a Podiatrist– don’t look any farther.

I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Walters and his staff. Here are a few of them great things about them:
1. Linda at the front desk: Superior customer service. She emailed me all the necessary paperwork and copies of bills (who does that nowadays!?) and was very gracious and friendly. Great asset to this office.
2. Veronic: She was my nurse. Great personality. So friendly. She didn’t hurt me a bit. Very very helpful in giving me the info on my condition, my surgery, what to expect, how best to heal, and not pushing my limitations. I just love her. She has an awesome sense of humor and is always in a great mood. Also a great asset to this office.
3. I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Walters. I told him from the first appointment that fitness and getting back to running and hard core exercise was my goal (I was in constant pain before I went and got my diagnosis) and he kept that in mind. He is a runner himself and when you choose a medical professional, it’s important to observe whether or not they live a healthy lifestyle. He obviously does. I ended up having a chilectomy and osteotomy– basically breaking my foot and shaving the bone off shorter and cleaning up bone spurs that were causing pain and swelling. He fully explained the process and did exactly what he said he was going to do. My surgery was a little over two weeks ago and that pain is totally gone. Of course I am dealing with the healing and a big boot on my leg to make sure I heal properly, but my problem is solved. I feel 100% confident that as long as I keep doing the exercises he has recommended and take care of myself as he advises, I will make a full recovery and have a better than new foot. I am so grateful I found his office and sought his expertise. You won’t be sorry if you choose him. I couldn’t be happier about the care I have received here!

Dr. Walters is awesome! I’m a distance runner and always have problems with my feet so it’s great to have someone I can trust. You can tell he really cares about his patients and is committed to their recovery progress. He also does a great job of explaining his diagnosis in a simple manor without all the complex medical terms so I actually know whats going on!
Capital Foot and Ankle has a simple foot x-​ray machine right in office that give instant images for your exam! They also do NOT overbook their clients so you never show up for your appointment and then have to wait another 2 hours to see the doctor which has been my experience with other places. They also have appointments available pretty regularly so you don’t have to wait 2 or 3 months just to get in for an exam.
If you’re looking for a podiatrist in the Austin area, I highly recommend trying this place out!
