I’m not Vegan, but I went on a date here with a girl who is. I’ve had vegetarian/​vegan food before, but it’s always hard to know what to expect; however, the food here was fantastic!
I had the BBQ Seitan Sandwhich, and my date had the Mac and Cheese. We also got one sweet and one savory kolache, which they hand make.
While I could definitely tell it wasn’t a «regular» meal, this is definitely among the best vegan food I’ve had. The chef, waiter, and cashier are all the same person, and he was wonderfully friendly. We asked a few questions about the cheese used in the Mac and Cheese, and he answered honestly and was very helpful.
Definitely recommended, even if you’re not a vegan!

I must come back here the next time I come back to Austin. I was looking for something relatively light for lunch, and was beyond satisfied when I left.
Food — The Three sisters ragout with polenta is a seasonal item and may I say that it was prepared with a lot of care. The polenta was fried with perfection. I don’t normally like beans but I couldn’t help but eat literally everything on the plate. The orange hibiscus agua fresca was fresh!!!
Seating — There was plenty of seating and there were fans which helped a great deal with any bugs or humidity in the air.

Absolutely fantastic vegan food truck. Their pizza beats the normal ones hands down. Cheesy and flavored. One of the best I have had.

I was expecting to enjoy Bistro Vonish, but was surprised to be totally blown away. We’re talking «oh my god, why did I wait so long to try this place, now I need to have it every other day to make up for lost time”-blown away.
My husband and I got a sampling of dishes to try: the sweet potato arepas, the BBQ sandwich, and the fried oyster mushrooms with fancy slaw. Nothing was only okay, everything was truly to die for, even the tiny salad that came on the side of the BBQ sandwich that had some sort of magical poppyseed dressing.
My husband isn’t vegan, but I think he possibly enjoyed the food even more than I did. It’s not good «for vegan food,» it’s just damn good food.

The best vegetarian food we’ve had in austin. Unique flavor pairings, beautiful presentation, and it’s all vegan.
Get the sweet potato arepas! You will not be disappointed.
And, it’s next to the north Bananarchy location! My two favorite things together in one space. Though the desserts at bistro vonish look pretty epic too. Will try next time.

This place is a gem! Everything on the menu is delicious and decadent. We especially love the mac and cheese and the barbecue sandwich! Friendly service, cute outdoor dining space, and a menu that would satisfy all dining preferences!

This place is similar to a fancy restaurant but in food truck/​trailer form. We purchased a dish as well as a soup to divide and loved free hot apple cider while we waited out in the cold. The butternut squash «suppli» dish was fantastic. It was a crispy patty of rice and creamy butternut squash served over greens, sweet potatoes and cranberries. Adored it and inhaled it although I was not really hungry.

I’ve been here half a dozen times, and everything I’ve eaten has been outrageously good.

There’s a knack to ordering vegan food that a lot of people lack. Some food isn’t meant to be vegan, while some are exponentially better that way. But there are some that defy these laws, luckily for me.
I came with a couple of friends for Sunday brunch (which I didn’t know about) and was honestly put out by the menu. It said «French toast «and alarms went off in my head. I never eat French toast coz I don’t like the way eggs taste, and honestly, vegan French toast was bound to be a disaster, right? They also informed me that they were out of the strawberry kolaches. Sigh. Luckily, there is an option of replacing that abomination of a culinary invention named tofu with other stuff like seitan (which I personally feel has a better texture and is much healthier than soy), and tempeh. Yay me, huh?
I ended up getting the French toast combo ($ 9) with a side of seitan, and the donache kolache (square donuts made with kolache dough with cinnamon sugar, 2 for $ 3) and my friends got the same stuff (with tofu scramble) and the savory kolache. (5 for $ 8)
You obviously need to wait a bit for the food– there’s one chef, and one cashier/​waitress, and it IS a truck after all. There is a shared trailer close by which apparently isn’t open on Sunday. Seating is aplenty for a truck, with a make shift covered canopy, and two fire pits. (My hair smells funny now.) if it’s a sunny day like it was today, you’re in luck.
Food arrives on paper plates (living up to several hipster expectations), I take a bite of the French toast– IT WAS DELICIOUS. I kid you not. The picky vegetarian in me loved the texture and the honey, the savory kolache was absolutely delicious– the stuffing wasn’t too spicy, but was packed with flavor, and the sweet donuts were just perfect.
So, here is what I learned. Vegan food done the right way is spectacularly tasty. Some foods may not be the best bets (vegan pizza is a huge no no), but as long as you pick the right thing to eat, chef Craig’s creations will never cease to amaze.

Excellent and inspired food! My husband had the BBQ vegan sandwich and said its the best he has ever tasted. I had a special dish because of my dislike for cauliflower and brussel sprouts (other dishes on the menu contained these) the chef made me mac and cheese with kale. It was really tasty! He also gave me a side of seitan as well. Food is locally sourced and fresh. He said he even makes his own seitan and it is definitely the best I have ever had.
This is a food truck so you either need to pick it up or dine at the tables in the empty lot. The chef and owner says he is working on opening up a restaurant and he is working on funding with investors. I think once this happens his food could really take off! Please support him and his business — we need more fine dining for Vegans!

Just wow! It is an easy place to miss as it’s kind of tucked away but once you find it, it’s amazing! I got a spicy tempeh kolache and the combination platter with French Toast and tofu scramble. It was amazing! There was a wait but it was well worth it. Cost of being a popular place.
It being a trailer, there was outdoor seating. Great if you want to bring a dog. The cinnamon roll was legit too. A vegan cinnamon roll is hard to come by, or at least a good one.

Went here for the first time with my husband on Valentine’s weekend. We ordered the butternut squash pizza and the mac & cheese. Both were really good and we had to get to-​go containers because we got so full. Ended up eating it the next day for lunch and it tasted even better. I may have even dreamt about the food since eating it.
The owner was very nice and I love the ambience even though it is a food trailer. I really hope this goes brick and mortar because I’d love a place that I could go to in all sorts of weather.

This food truck was a little hard to find, but that’s because I had no idea I was looking for a food truck. This little Vegan delight is a great find, even if it is a bit of a drive from home. I had the Tofu Scramble with Home fries. Yum! I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of flavor in the scramble. I will definitely keep this place on my list. :)

Having eaten at many a vegan restaurant coast to coast, I have to say this one leaves a special impression.
The thoughtfulness, creativity, and execution of the menu are much more than the weathered picnic tables and humble-​side-​lot-​location lead on. These guys clearly have a passion for what they do and are creating a culinary experience that will no doubt command a larger venue /​stage in the near future (I can’t wait to see what happens when they can pair the menu with wine).
It’s great seeing the vegan food scene in Austin continue to evolve via places like this. Well done!

I first got to experience Craig’s cooking when he used to host monthly vegan supper clubs around Austin. I went to two of them, and dragged my meat-​eating boyfriend to one for my birthday, who said it was the best vegan food he’s ever had, bar none. I was so excited to hear that Craig opened up a trailer.
The ambience is great; nice soft lighting, nice music, heat lamps– a really nice set-​up for a trailer.
I’ve been here a handful of times now and I have yet to taste something that I don’t adore. Everything is impeccably plated and looks almost too beautiful to eat. You really are getting a 5-​star dining experience, despite the fact that it’s a trailer.
The food is, to put it mildly, LEGIT. The mac n cheese is so good, especially with tempeh on top. The pizzas are droolworthy. The croquettes are the perfect consistency, and the kolaches are DELICIOUS. The seitan sandwich is bomb, too.
Even if you’re not vegan, you will love this place.

The chef here is doing some really exciting things with his vegan dishes. The mixing of ingredients and flavors is very interesting and some items I’ve had here are just out of this world just delicious.
It’s a food truck so if you come here on a date be prepared for that, but the food is 100% fine dining. I’m personally waiting for them to open a brick and mortar location.
Bistro Vonish would be Austin’s first and only vegan fine dining restaurant. (Other vegan restaurants in town are great but they’re just not fine dining).
And we need a vegan place where we can eat great food and also dress up and look fabulous. :)

I had heard a lot about this place from my friends and from Facebook! So I decided to give it a try. Sidenote: you should park on Martin Avenue, because the trailer park itself has no parking.
I ordered the mac and cheese and the bbq seitan sandwich with the arugula salad to-​go ($ 16). The portions of Mac are very large, probably could have gone without the sandwich. Nonetheless, both were excellent. I’m guessing the macaroni was made in a pan because it was very crunchy– my favorite.
Only took 10 – 15 minutes to come out, and there was a nice fire going by the seating area so I kept warm. Craig, the owner, brought my food out to where I was sitting. He was very friendly.
Definitely will be coming back soon! He said the menu changes periodically.

I came here last night for the first time through a recommendation of a friend and was pleasantly surprised! I’m not vegan nor do I eat vegan food often, but from past experiences it’s always lacked flavor. This food truck was the complete opposite.
The outside atmosphere is a cute setting with picnic tables and flowers under string lights and a canopy, along with a fire pit to keep you warm. Craig was super knowledgeable when it came to specific items on his menu in helping decide what’s best to eat and he even educated me with some history with one of the items in the kolaches (I can’t remember what it’s called).
They were hosting a pumpkin carving party (with cider and snacks) which I thought was really neat. It was cute to see the kids and adults into the Fall and Halloween spirit.
My most favorite item were the squash sliders. They were incredible. The watermelon aqua fresca was so fresh and satisfying too. This place is a hidden gem.
I’d definitely go back here again and recommend it to anyone that is a foodie, vegan or not! The atmosphere is right and so is the price! There is also one port-​o-​potty in case nature calls!
PS. After dining check out the little shop next to the trailer called, Native. All of their items are local to Austin. It’s really cool and a great way to support our community. They also have fun artwork hanging too! Don’t forget to say hi to the sweet dog!

Bistro Vonish is something special. The food is upscale and fancy while the the price and location are very casual.
Sitting outside in the open air under a canopy tent, the hubs and I enjoyed an awesome brunch — french toast topped with a mango sauce and blackberries along with a side of hash potatoes. Best vegan french toast I’ve ever had. It was perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Not soggy at all. The hash potatoes were a mix of white and sweet potatoes, onion and garlic, all sauteed up and extra crispy.
You can tell that the chef/​owner really puts a lot of love into the experience he’s providing for his customers, from the way he displays food on a plate to the cooler of cucumber water available for self-​serve.

The bottom line here is superb vegan, but the trailer detracts from the experience. When Chef Vanis completes his brick & mortar sometime this year, Bistro Vonish is going to be great. Think laV and Odd Duck when they started as trailers. One small step for innovative chefs, one giant leap for vegans.
I know places doing animal-​free, but not many doing vegan Béchamel for pasta Mornay or a chocolate Mousseline from dairy-​free Chantilly. Impressive stuff here. And more surprisingly, it tastes great.
Apparently the menu will continually evolve, there are special brunch items for Sunday, and everything I saw was labeled gluten-​free as well. Not even going to debate the merit of non-​flesh lifestyles — if you know it, you owe it, just to see where this guy’s taking it. I’m looking forward to it.
