Established in 2010.

Angie Pennington is a Licensed Aesthetician and Certified Laser Professional with additional training in the specific use of our equipment. Angie received her aesthetician license February of 2006 and has performed thousands of laser procedures. She has completed Advanced Paramedical Training and maintains current knowledge related to all areas of her aesthetic practice.

Daniel Carrasco, M. D.

Business Owner

Daniel A. Carrasco, M.D. is an experienced New York City trained, board certified dermatologist. Dr. Carrasco was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas where he attended St. Mary’s University, graduating with honors in biology. A graduate of the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, Dr. Carrasco completed an internship in Internal Medicine in Houston, TX .

Following his internship, Dr. Carrasco accepted a position as a dermatopharmacology clinical fellow at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. He was then recruited to complete a fellowship in New York City at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine where he supervised the clinical trials unit at Mount Sinai’s Department of Dermatology.

Dr. Carrasco went on to complete his residency training in dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital. During his fellowships and residency, he was a co-​investigator in over 50 clinical trials. Dr. Carrasco specializes in general medical dermatology, cosmetic and surgical dermatology.

Dr. Carrasco is the best in town-​dermatologist that is! Do not hesitate to go to him with any skin ailment, he has great bedside manner and knows his stuff. His staff is okay, I would say that is the only downside-​nurses not super friendly or helpful, front desk okay. They pushed me to get a prescription with a pharmacy out of NJ (mail order), they called me a day later and told me the prescription would be $$$$, no way I told them as CVS is right down the road and does not charge me that. Then I had to contact the nurse and let them know to change pharmacies. I leave a voicemail, and hear back days later etc. I think if his staff had a better office manager or something, this could be remedied, not sure what the answer is but for now I will still use Carrasco and hope his place of business reads these reviews and works through the kinks.

I didn’t read these reviews until after I had scheduled my appointment and I must say I was a little nervous. The wait time was not long at all and I had very friendly front desk service. I saw Dr. Sally and was pleased by her friendliness. She prescribed me five medications and I’m not so sure I needed all of them. However, when I went to pick them up at the pharmacy, one was not covered by my insurance and one had not even been called in! I called the office the next day and left a voicemail about the issue. I didn’t hear back so I called again 2 days later and had to leave another voicemail. I was contacted about the issue later but would have rated higher if I wasn’t given this problem! The medicine will get the job done but the experience I had was so-​so. Not sure I’ll be coming back.

Upon arriving at the office for the first time, it became clear to me that this office was designed for cosmetics rather than medical problems.
I needed to have my scalp checked for inflammation and chronic itchiness. My PA came in and talked to me for about two minutes without really examining my scalp. I really would have liked clarification on what my skin problem was rather than being told «it doesn’t look that bad.»
They then sent my prescription gels/​foams to a pharmacy in Dallas rather than my Walgreens within walking distance of the office. I called to have it shipped to me and dealt with the most incompetent pharmacy staff who ended up needing to transfer it to my local pharmacy anyway. Another week passes and Walgreens informs me that my insurance doesn’t cover my prescription so ADA decides to send it to another pharmacy in Maryland who, surprise, has terrible customer service and can’t seem to get my prescription shipped out to me.
In short, if you’re looking for a place to address a skin condition, try elsewhere.

Went in for skin cancer spot check — very disappointed with my experience.
Long wait: I showed up early for my appointment, but still had to wait an hour after my appointment was actually scheduled.
When I finally saw the doctor, I told her I had a spot on my skin I wanted her to look at it. She spent the next 30 minutes trying to sell me on products (that she presumably gets paid for) that I didn’t even need, and never actually checked the spot I had come in for. She tried to prescribe me two different acne medications because I had a breakout on my forehead, even though I told her I almost never get breakouts and it would be gone in a day.
When I left the office, I still did not know if my spot was cancerous and I had hand fulls of samples for sunscreen and acne medications that I did not need or want…
I’m sure if you want cosmetic treatment they may be adequate, but if you want a medical opinion about something other than acne or weightless, this place is a waste of time.

They were great at getting me scheduled quickly, and the doctor’s visit went well, then all downhill from there.
On Monday I see the doctor, and they tell me that they’ll let me know a few days later (Thursday) what my lab results are, and to call back if they don’t call me. They don’t call me, so I called back. They said they didn’t know the results yet and would let me know if anything came in. They didn’t call me on Friday or the next Monday. I call back on Tuesday They tell me that yes, in fact bacteria did grow, and that I should be using a different medication. I am perplexed as to why they didn’t call back when they found out I should be taking a different medication.
I go to the pharmacy to pick up the new medication, and turns out they wrote the wrong prescription, for a child’s medication that no pharmacy in the city has. So I call the doctor back the next morning, saying I need the correct medication. They tell me they’ll call it in. I go to get it and the pharmacy can’t find it. I go back and forth with the dermatologist office and the pharmacy on the phone, until I give up. Only when I threaten to write a bad review someone FINALLY from the office actually calls the pharmacy to see what’s going on.
On the voicemail they blame me and/​or the pharmacy for making two accounts, as if to say that it’s not their fault that I couldn’t get my prescription. HERE’S THE JOKE: THEIR OFFICE made me two accounts BECAUSE THEY SPELLED MY NAME WRONG THE SECOND TIME (I repeat– not the first time– THE SECOND TIME). Now I can’t get rid of my second account– because the pharmacy can’t delete it– potentially leading to future confusion when prescriptions are called there for me.
The doctor’s good– his staff is terrible. I give up. Don’t go here.

Dr. Gewirtzman is a great dermatologist. He takes the time to explain in an easy to understand manner the underlying condition and the most cost effective treatment options.

Let me preface this with the fact that I have been getting Botox and injectables off and on for 5 years in Los Angeles.
I went here under the suggestion of a friend, whom actually accompanied me with her sister, for a sale on Dysport. I’d never had Dysport before, but after a short chat with Dr. C, telling him I was VERY CONCERNED about a heavy lid and being overly injected because I’m sensitive — he assured me I had a similar aesthetic to his wife and that he knew «exactly what to do». Mind you, he never asked how many units of Botox I generally get, even though Dysport is 3:1 to Botox roughly.
He injected me, I got to the front desk and was slammed with a $ 450 bill for how many units?
ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY.
Doing the math, I usually get 30 units of Botox. If you times that by 3, you get 90 — 90 units of Dysport would have been comparable. He dosed me with almost twice that. Needless to say, my eyebrow drooped like Grumpy Cat for 3 weeks. He had to try to counter balance it with more Dysport, but it didn’t work.
His reaction was «Yeah, remember I told you I figured that side would be sensitive.» In my experience, less is always more.
In case anyone reading this is tempted to lecture me on the fact that injectables aren’t predictable, and the Dysport has a higher spread rate — exactly. The 2 ladies I was with? He gave one a brow so heavy she is just now starting to be able to show that she’s surprised a month later, and her sister has a perma-​frown on one side because he put too much in her chin.
On checkout, my friend had purchased 2 syringes of filler, for a later date. After she saw all of our faces, she tried to get a refund because she is afraid to trust his hand again. and they refused with a «Sorry you had to experience that, but no.»
I know Unilocal reviews can be unfair, but this all happened. I’d tread lightly if you visit, and be sure to ask LOTS of questions … because they don’t.

Sally Santos (PA) is THE best. I have never been happy with any dermatologist I visited but she is perfect (and totally gorgeous). She is so smart and explains things in a way that is easy to understand. I have had two procedures with her (mole removal) and she did such a great job. She also helped me manage my acne with retin-​A and sunscreen. My skin has never looked better! She is amazing — go see her!

The last dermatologist I went to had an office full of robots with lots of obvious «work» done. This place was real, friendly, and Dr. Carrasco is amazing. He took care of my issue on my first visit, and, unlike the last dermatologist I saw, didn’t ask me about various ways to help me look younger. I’ll be returning for sure, and recommending others.

Nightmare desk staff. I’m editing this as much as I can to avoid having the review flagged as a «rant».
I’ll just break it down:
Dr. Carrassco is a really nice guy and serious professional who takes time to talk about your concerns. He always treated me with great respect. My only complaint is that med recommendations frequently tended to be toward the just released, over-​priced brands.
I have had four or five appointments confirmed, (in multiple formats), only to be told, after taking a day off of work, I was unable to actually keep. Each time, I was told «I should have been called by someone» with a shrug as to the mystery of why that hadn’t happened.
Referrals I obtained didn’t go through, and I was treated rudely when informed at the desk. I later learned the fax machine had been out of service throughout this period, or that I was just mistaken about having gotten the referrals at all. This was never the case. When I made sure to bring all of the referral info myself, the receptionist seemed really put out to have to then enter it into the system.
I maintained a polite demeanor throughout out all of this. I really liked the doctor and didn’t want to sacrifice my access to him. The desk staff made this impossible. The last appointment was again cancelled upon my arrival. I was told they’d never been in my network. No one had called me about this. (Someone was supposed to, shrug). I was told I didn’t owe the balance since I wasn’t aware of the mix up, only to be called a month later to be told I did have to pay. To the office’s credit, they cancelled this charge after being reminded of the earlier conversation.
Perhaps this is still a rant.

I give Dr. Carrasco, Rosa, and Angie 5 stars because I’ve always had a positive experience when I see them. Dr. Carrasco always has an answer and a plan to help me with my skin concerns. But I have to give it 4 stars overall because man, what is up with their front desk staff? I was quoted and charged 3 different amounts for the same service and when I asked why that was at the end of my 4th appointment the front desk girl became really annoyed and gave me some serious attitude explaining that they had given me a credit before (which no one ever informed me of). Which my response was, I didn’t deserve that rude response and if your from desk girls are confused about the costs how do you expect me not to be?

Carrasco knows his medicine. Its the typical doctor’s office experience. You get there and wait and it can be hard to get an appointment, so I can’t be 5 star level ecstatic about this but I’m going to give him 5 stars because bottom line, they cured all of my skin problems.

I waited two days for my appointment, only to be informed by the receptionist that my insurance required a referral from my primary Dr. «I have never been to the Doctor, so I don’t have one» I explained. But she seemed put out as if I were a distraction from whatever she was working on in her computer. Without looking up from her desk, and in a hurried voice, she informed me that I could just pay cash. I just left. As it turned out, I just needed to call the Doctor whose name was on the card, which I did, and he asked me if I wanted the referral to this place, but I chose Dr Trizna instead because he is my Son’s dermatologist.

Really impressed with this dermatology office.
I was disappointed with a billing issue, to the point where I was prepared to search for a new derm office. But Kim took the time to explain the communication error (even though it took a week of phone tag for her to get a hold of me). She was really nice about the whole thing.
I came in a week later to see Angie, and after she saw the notes in the system about the mixup, offered to help make things right.
Dr. C’s staff took a negative experience and used it as an opportunity to shine with their customer service. This great service, combined with Dr. C’s experience, made me realize I found my lifelong derm.

6 months later and I’m done with Accutane! Dr. Thrash was really great through the whole process and her nurses rock! Front desk staff still needs work, although they got better with time. If you are looking for an experienced, personable doctor who will work with you through whatever, go see Dr. Thrash.

Went in for my checkup and they’ve been GREAT at their customer service since I started going!
My skin is absolutely clear and they have been very attentive since that first visit… Going in again this week for a 2nd checkup, and confident that it will go swimmingly! I recommend going early in the morning– they seemed less rushed this past time I went in early… :)

You know how sometimes you can just tell immediately when someone knows their stuff and you’re in good hands? That’s how I felt during my first visit to Dr. Carrasco.
I’ve had some little spots on my face that have bugged me for years. A few years ago, I visited another dermatologist in Austin who said they were just part of getting older and I would just have to live with them. Huh.
I decided it was time to try again with a new dermatologist and chose Dr. Carrasco because of the Unilocal reviews and he was between my work and home so I could go for an appointment during lunch.
I went in with my same list of spots. He looked at them and said, «There’s no cream I can give you to make them go away, but we can take care of them right now, if you have time.» They definitely don’t mess around here. In less than 30 minutes, he zapped two spots, froze one, and sliced off another for a biopsy. (Benign, yay!) He even spotted a pre-​cancerous something-​something on my face and immediately took care of it. Instead of going back to work like I expected, I went home with bandages on my face, but thrilled and wishing I had gone to him years ago!
I went back for a follow up and had a second good experience. Like other reviewers, I got a great coupon to help with my prescription cost.

One of the prescriptions they gave me (a topical cream) wasn’t covered by my insurance and I needed a prescription for the generic, so I called the office back and they said they’d send over a new prescription right away. I guess their Medical Assistant is a little slow on the uptake because she just sent in another prescription for the same stuff that my insurance didn’t cover. It was a little frustrating having to keep going back to the pharmacy to find out the right prescription wasn’t in (I only did this once before calling ahead).
Yesterday Dr. Katy called me personally and apologized for the mix-​up, and said that instead of the generic kind (which was less effective, lower potency) she would prescribe me a different topical that would work better, and she even called to make sure my insurance covered it ahead of time. To top it off, she said she would mail me some more coupons for it that would make it free the first month, and significantly cheaper from there on out (the coupons act like a secondary insurance apparently). Serious customer service!
Fortunately Dr. Katy had sent me home with a handful of samples during my appointment, so I’ve been using those while I wait for the coupons to arrive. Even after a week, I’ve notice amazing improvements to my complexion, which only reinforces my willingness to trust ADA’s expertise. You guys rock!
