I’m gonna be honest here and it’s gonna sting – this place doesn’t have a chance when Monkey’s Nest is across the street.
Angela’s is cute but it has this «my husband is wealthy, the kids have left the nest, I’m gonna open a coffee/​gift shop as a hobby using his money» feel. Harsh yes, but this place just screams I’m the owner and I’m between the age of 50 – 60.
Poor Angela, just does not understand the demographic of Austin. Now if this coffee shop were in small town Fredricksberg or any other small Texas town, I can see it majorly thriving.
Opening a coffee shop in a moderately contemporary building with juxtaposing kitchy tchotchkes and seating you would find in your upper middle class east Texas grandmothers out door patio garden, does not make sense.
I was meeting a friend there and she had recommend the place. I was there a good 10 minutes before she arrived and I had ordered myself an ice tea. It was fine but what really killed it for me was the seating. It was so uncomfortable and there were too few tables and one too many group seating situations, which being American, we don’t like to sit with strangers.
I feel bad, but the truth hurts.

Ballyhoo… an attempt to win over customers? Well while the intent was good the output fell short. The décor is like an antique store selling furniture and knick-knacks…o wait they are? While selling art and other random crap is nothing new to austin coffee shops, the overwhelming sense of tackiness consumes the environment. The chairs and desk setups are very uncomfortable and believe me I know ergonomics
The staff are friendly and nice. Unfortunately they seem to get my order wrong half of the time… seriously that is not acceptable if I am gonna shell out $ 4 for coffee. The lemon cake is pretty darn tasty.
Bottom-​Line: Food and drink are on par but atmosphere keep it from being competitive with most Austin coffee joints

I would never have expected to find such a cozy and inviting coffee shop in such a modern glass and chrome kind of building. Ruta Maya coffee (organic, fair trade, environmentally friendly and roasted in Austin), local artists’ work for sale, and even Torchy’s breakfast tacos, and wine by the bottle or glass (I didn’t experience this part — it was 10 in the morning when I visited) all blend together in an Austin mix of eclectic and nurturing.
This would be a great place to have small meet-​up groups, wind up in the morning with a great cup of coffee or unwind after work with a glass of wine. I could also imagine Angela gaining a reputation as a local art boutique. There’s a rich aroma of candles and coffee and the furniture is comfortable; the overall vibe is mellow and the coffee is affordable. There isn’t anything else like it in the area.

This is essentially a furniture and knickknack store that happens to have some coffee. All the furniture had price tags on it, so I felt weird sitting on it. What if I spilled coffee? Would I have to buy the couch? I felt like I was in a furniture store, not a coffee house.

Angela’s is Uniquely Austin. It’s a great place for relaxing as a couple or meeting a business client. The fact that most of the décor is for sale keeps the atmosphere evolving and interesting. The coffee’s great, the gifts unique and the owner and staff friendly and accommodating. I highly recommend it!

First the good:
*plenty of garage parking
*free Wi-​Fi
*good espresso
*locally owned
*didn’t care for the décor, but if you do everything is for sale! (the art, knickknacks, the furniture, the whole shootin’ match)
*staff is friendly and accommodating
The bad:
*the not-​so-​great drip coffee is made with what appears to be a Mr. Coffee or some like-​equivalent
*they use environmentally unfriendly Mini-​Moos for the half & half
*limited menu
*stuffy (circulation-​wise)
*the cloying scented candle smell is overwhelming
I can’t stress this last point enough. Angela’s Brew and Ballyhoo would be more aptly named Angela’s Pew and Smelly-​Poo! The odor from the scented candles almost knocked me off my stool. Even after an hour with the door open the smell was still overpowering. One of my group finally left early because of it.
I know some love the smell of potpourri, scented candles, and the like, but for those that don’t, this is a deal-​breaker. And frankly, a coffeehouse should smell like coffee or nothing at all.

This place is lame. The décor reminds me of Auntie Grezelda’s House. It’s awkward and gaudy. I paid three dollars for a muffin that was made 4 days ago. I was desperate. I really went in there for a Torchy’s breakfast taco, but they didn’t have any. Apparently they only have them Mon-​Friday. Just a heads up. So I walked to Torchy’s which is just a few blocks south.

LOVE it! Angela’s Brew & Ballyhoo is a great place for a latte — good coffee, comfy sofas and free WiFi. Parking is a breeze. I’ve also gotten a couple of fabulous bottles of wine there.

I’m pretty surprised by all the high reviews for this place. I had one of the worst coffees EVER in this place. I just ordered a regular iced coffee to go. The server was very nice and he told me the iced coffee was strong– and I told him that’s fine: I love strong coffee! I took it and went on my way. I should have tried it while I was still in the store because I would have asked for something else. It was the weakest coffee I’ve ever purchased. It was seriously like water. Maybe he added water because he thought it was strong? But ew! I threw it away. With so many great coffee and wine places in the vicinity (apothecary, pacha, simplicity, etc) there’s no reason to bother with this one. I may consider trying it again since I realize it’s newly opened. The atmosphere just doesn’t cut it– everything in the place seems to be for sale. The walls are turquoise and it’s sort of bright. Maybe I just prefer being in a more romantic setting like apothecary, house wine or vino vino. If I had to pick somewhere to enjoy a bottle of wine I’d rather be in one of the other wine bars in Austin. And as for coffee… anywhere but here!

This is a chic and comfortable little neighborhood hangout. I love taking my girlfriends for a Ballyhoo experience. Plenty of choices for either coffees or wines. The atmosphere is pleasing and very calming.
This little retreat much needed for the area suits my taste perfectly.

This is THE place to find unusual, fun & classy gifts for b-​days, special occasions or holidays. The owner, Angela, has superb taste and I MUST go back to make MORE purchases! The iced coffee toddy was so good, I didn’t even have to add sugar (which is highly unusual for me)!
I totally recommend you getting urself down there and check it out!

What a place!!! décor exquisite!!! Reminds me of back home, original pieces of furniture, the wine was so good! The owner Angela so nice, friendly, detailed person… brought some fruit and cheese, great service.
Definitely going back to taste the coffee and of course the wine, maybe a happy hour or on a friday…

Excellent place to hang out and relax or shop for some fun and unusual gifts. Great atmosphere!

Great coffee and service. Nice atmosphere great for meetings. The wine selection is top notch and affordable. They also have cute unique gifts you can’t get anywhere else. Parking looks like a challenge but after going there you can park on the street by hat creek or in the garage. No paid parking to worry about and plenty of spaces.

Great place to sit back and enjoy a glass of wine or special beer with friends. They have some great coffee and desserts to take with you as you leave.

This place is SUPERB!
It is AWESOME! I have found my new hideout to get away from the country life…;-) Once you step inside, you are greeted by either Angela (Owner) or one of the other wonderful staff there.
OMG — this place, is the place to be. It is a place where you can take a first date and not feel overwhelmed.
I will be back — they have a fan!!!

Very friendly folks in a comfortable space. Perfect as a place to catch up with your girlfriends over a glass of wine, or do a little work with a latte. Great gift items, as well.

Great spot for a fresh brew of the day… and they have beer/​wine if caffeine is not your fav :)
It’s not a production variety Starbucks which is appealing — they have the usual coffee drinks, snacks, and lots of gift items — think of a gift shop and coffee/​wine fusion
