Sub Cultured

I want to start off by saying the guys at Sub Cultured were so nice and their French fries are AMAZING! Unfortunately, that’s where the good part of the review ends. We orders three subs; a Cuban, a Philly, and the sweet caprese and two orders of fries. We asked for the Cuban and Philly to be cut in half and each half to be wrapped separately which they didn’t do. They also completely forgot our fries. The Cuban was extremely dry, definitely too much meat and not enough of everything else. The Philly was just terrible… maybe I just got a bad one, because the reviews seem to indicate that’s what they specialize in but it was flavorless and sopping wet. The sweet caprese was also very soggy, but taste-​wise was the best of the 3. $ 30 for 3 VERY disappointing sandwiches will definitely make a person feel ripped off. And unfortunately it was bad enough all around, that I’m not even willing to give it another shot.

I love Sub Cultured. they got these voodoo chips off the chain, love there gypsy fries…

By now I’ve had nearly the entire menu and customized a few sandwiches as well. Everything is top notch in my opinion. I have taken a large number of friends here and nearly all of them share my love for sub cultured.
Cuban is the best I’ve had anywhere.

By far the best place in town for subs and salads. They have gluten free options available which is unlike any restaurant around. The staff are amazing, friendly and their customer service is outstanding.
Their menu in versatile and customizable, which I love! If you haven’t stumbled upon Atlantic Beach’s hidden jewel then you should come check them out!

Awesome place! Philly is highly recommended! Only short side is the location and no where to eat inside, they make up for it w their delivery service I guess!

Hole in the wall sandwich shop… with great sandwiches and service. I’ve been to the Home Depot stand a few times and remember them having a stand at the beach a few years back. Wish I had not waited this long to check em out. Better quality and taste at the shop by far! Good selection of sandwiches, salads, fries, etc. The soda selection goes beyond the mainstream Coke and Pepsi choices. I ordered the Montréal which was a Pastrami with cheddar cheese (curds i think) and mustard. Perfectly toasted bread which came from a local bakery complemented the sandwich. My son ordered the Cuban and had no intention of sharing because he said it was «not good but awesome.» They have 3 tables to sit at inside and 1 table outside. Definitely will be back to try the poutine! Keep it up Sub Cultured.

Great food. Great service. If you are in a rush just call ahead and they’ll have it ready for you!

I’m giving this place 2 stars, not because the food is bad, but because the customer service is awful. I’ve been here many times, hoping for improvement each time I visit seeing as the subs are pretty good, but the wait time for a sandwich here is ridiculous. SLOWEST sandwich making ever. I’ve waited up to 25 min for a single sandwich multiple times to then receive the wrong order. To combat the wait time I’ve even called ahead of time and placed my order, to then arrive and wait 20 min for the sub I ordered 45 min ago. I don’t get it, they are sandwiches, not even gourmet ones at! Don’t go to this place if you have anything to do or anywhere to be, they take their sweeeet time.

Better show up hungry. Best sausage dog around.
Only problem is they are close to work and fast with food preparation. I’m gaining weight.

I love this sandwich shop! If you live anywhere near the beach, you need to get over to Mayport and grab a Philly Cheesesteak from Sub Cultured. They use Boar’s Head meat and bread from Cinnotis. They also carry yummy specialty sodas. There is a little inside area where you can eat. The owner is so nice too. Great prices for good food! Get the garlic aioli on the side to dip your fries in :)

We had the chicken philly, sausage sandwich and the gypsy fries… It was all crazy delicious. When a sandwich can put you on your ass because you’ve inhaled it in 3 minutes, you know you’re eating the real deal. It’s not easy to get an authentic philly sandwiches when you’re not in philly but they’ve nailed it. On top of that the gypsy fries are on another level with high quality, tender steak and perfectly seasoned. On top of great food, the service is warm and welcoming, and they even help you with your order based on what you’re craving. Add this place to your weekly lunch and/​or dinner routine!

On my way to another spot I was stopped at the light and looked to my left & spotted this lil gem out of the corner of my eye, I made a swift move out of traffic and right up to their window. So much to choose from, I went with the cuban, a refreshing mandarin orange drink and chips. The sandwich was panini style (pressed) the distinctive taste of pork came through as well as the taste of mustard/​garlic, it was a different flavor that I had never experienced with a cuban sandwich but very good, service was friendly, since the sandwiches are made to order expect a bit of a wait, looking forward to trying the gypsy fries and a different sandwich soon!

It’s funny, Siri took us through a shortcut and at a red light I looked to my left and saw this little spot. I liked the name, saw that it was good and decided to Unilocal this place. Well, amazing reviews and a hungry stomach made us turn around and check it out.
We were not disappointed. Food was super good, ranch dressing homemade. And the drinks were on the house. We loved the spot, and more so we loved the hospitality of the guys there. (Ahem* David). So chill, so welcoming, so fun.
Gypsy fries are deeeelish!

Fantastic sandwiches! Wasn’t crazy about the pork in the Cuban but the other sandwiches we had were a 10!

Great sandwiches, great sloth, poor shelter. Food’s quite good, though, some innovation in ingredients and their combinations.
You walk up to the window (@ SW corner of Mayport Rd & Donner Rd), declare and pay, and wait, and wait… this is my 5^th time eating here and thus far 14 minutes was the quickest they’d emerged from the door and called out my name and tacked on their obligatory «sorry about the wait» (it is like they truly believe themselves it is an anonaly, all 4 times!), one of the 4 prior lunches took a whopping 25 minutes. Just as I write this they deliver the package at ten minutes on the nose, an entirely acceptable score to me.
They’re not cheap, and neither are good ingredients, so that’s fine; u get what u pay for and I’m a fellow sole prop, so will stay aligned.
Terrific bread. Tender roast beef. Sprouts. Havarti chz. I’ll be back, nagging the queue and abundant lack of shade again as the young old curmudgeon I am, because where the rubber meets the road they consistently border on terrific.
Scrumptious Italian, and the «Caswell» features tender sliced roast beef served warm with tomatoes, sprouts, and havarti cheese all on fresh and spongy sourdough.

So stoked that this killer Sub place is right next to my place in Atlantic Beach. I got «The Philly» and it’s the best Philly cheesesteak in town… I’ve lived at the beach over 16 years and they do it the best! Not to mention the sandwhich I ordered and devoured last week was the «Miami» Cuban and its the best Cuban I’ve ever had. I’m not doing this review because there are my friends I’m doing this review because they have become my friends and I support local businesses with great customer service and quality food.

Before this cool little joint, Sub Cultured was just a small vendor with a cooler by the front entrance at the Home Depot on Atlantic and Girvin (one i would visit occasionally). When I heard that they were opening up a restaurant in close proximity to where I work, my stomach was already making preparations for the spicy italian sausage sub with onions and peppers (what I always get at Home Depot).
The menu is quite appealing with subs like the Philly Cheesesteak and they even have cold cuts and a good selection of salads to accompany your sandwich. The food is great, prices are great, and the pleasant service is no different.
Oh and get an order of their house fries by the way, for 3 dollars the portion is generous and it’s seasoned very well.

What a find!!! I was visiting my family in Jacksonville and came across this place on Unilocal.Apparently they are well known for their food truck outside Home Depot and now they have a walk up window at Mayport Rd. and Donner (behind Nick the Greek). We ordered the ultimate Philly which is made w shaved hot or sweet Italian sausage and added onions, peppers, and provolone cheese. It was so awesome! I also got the Sweet Caprese which was much smaller than the philly (like a normal grilled cheese sandwich size) and super tasty.
The menu looked so good. Next time I would check out their poutine and also their salads – had a great looking one w craisins and goat cheese.
Also, the employees were SO friendly and helpful w the menu. I hope this place is a huge success.

Sub Cultured is a fantastic sandwich and salad eatery that truly embodies the entire meaning of its name.
Along the run down drags of Mayport Rd you will find a walk up window that is Sub Cultured. It’s outfitted with potted trees and flowers, pop bottles, and chalk board menus. The staff operate quite efficiently and make your food fresh to order.
I walked down here for some lunch after discovering the joint’s existence while attending a small craft sale/​show nearby. I was happy to find it, as walking down the street left me feeling very uneasy — there are many buildings that appear abandoned and small businesses that look like they’ve seen better days. Once I got to the window, I put my order in and waited patiently for my eats. About 10 min later I was headed back to the show with food for me and my wife, and an old fashioned bottled dr pepper.
We enjoyed the Sweet Caprese and Phillysteak sandwiches. Taking half of each, we got to try them both.
The sweet Caprese was just as it sounds. A Caprese with a touch of sweetness. I really enjoyed it, as it contained many of my favorite flavored: melted cheese, tomato with pesto, and honey. I would order it again, and for $ 6 I thought it was a good value. My wife was not as crazy about it as I was. However, we both awed at the taste of the Phillysteak. These guys claim to be the same ones who make the Philly steak outside homedepot, where we first tried the sandwich (this in and of itself is mind boggling, let alone having a quality Phillysteak in Jacksonville). The steak is high quality, super thinly sliced, and flavorful. The cheese, peppers and onions really come together well to make the sandwich top notch. I highly recommend trying it out!
I’d really like to come back and try the gypsy fries sometime. They are supposedly fries with the Phillysteak ingredients on top.
A+ in my book, or in this case, 5 stars!

These are the same fellas that serves the amazing sausage dogs in front of Home Depot. I’m so glad they opened up on the corner of Levy Rd and Mayport Rd. This spot has a great beach vibe blended with Caribbean and American culture. The food is sooooo good. Was hoping to make this my got to lunch spot but a bit pricey for Mayport. How could I forget, The Owner DaDa, is one of the hardest working food vendors I have met and this spills over to his whole staff.
Make sure to get a old fashion glass bottle soda. It will make you feel like a kid again or in the Caribbean. This is a perfect fit for us islanders.
