Do you ever wonder what the story is behind a unique restaurant like Soup’s On? Well if you take the time, the flavors of the soup, along with the outstanding experience of the owner/chef will unfold like the petals of a rose. First, you want to know about the soup and I don’t blame you. Look for the daily menu sheets, and you will notice four soups that are always on the menu — French onion, Maryland crab, chicken noodle and New England clam chowder. They are all excellent choices, but the real adventure is trying the unique flavors of the daily specials. Things like Italian wedding, sweet potato, enchilada, and chowder with ham, bacon and corn. Not sure what to have? Ask for tastes of all the soups that you are interested in before(or even after) your choice. On my most recent visit, my daughter and I say at the bar and she chose chicken noodle, while tried a few like«chili dog», «spicy Buffalo chicken» and«cinnamon and star anise pork». The clear winner was the pork, because the fragrant cinnamon overpowers your first taste, while the star anise flavored broth comes behind with some amazing flavors. While my daughter wanted chicken noodle, she kept sneaking bites of mine whenever she could. The owner is a classically trained chef who has had restaurants in LA, San Fransisco, and Maryland before opening here in little old Jacksonville. Along the way he has worked with fabulous chefs, across broad ethnic styles and is never scared to mix unique flavors with surprising results. My all time favorite is his use of sweet potatoes, always rendering a soup with both sweet and savory flavors. However today’s pork may have taken it off the pedestal. Go, on any day, and sample the fantastically flavors that Soups On puts in the table.

Had the cream of chicken and rice soup w/chicken n Bree sandwich. Having the sandwich again for lunch tomorrow. Having a different soup. Something that sounds like pizza as a soup. Or at at least it has pepperoni in it. They will give you a taste test if you are unsure. It’s also a very homey place. While we were there everyone seemed to get orders to go. The sandwich was purely delicious with Bree, apple slices, a balsamic vinaigrette, and spinach. The hubs ordered the clam chowder twice it was so good.

I looked up healthy restaurants in the area and soups on popped up and decided to give it a try. The chicken & brea cheese hot sandwich I ordered was quite possibly the best sandwich I ever had. There has only been one other restaurant in my life that actually blew me away for a meal. I can confidently say now I have two. Highly recommend the above sandwich. As healthy restaurants go, they have vegetarian alternative sandwiches along with gluten free soups, house raspberry and I believe blackberry tea and they make their own soda with one of those soda machines.

One of my favorite places to go on a rainy day or a cold Jax evening to either pick up some yummy soup for home or enjoy it in-house. I love that they allow you to get the current should before choosing; with a changing variety menu this is appreciated. The bread the soups come with us perfect with a crunchy outside and soft middle. Perfect for dipping into your soup. Favorites vary negate I always try something new, but their Maryland crab is full of veggies and has a perfect balance of flavors, so if I’m not feeling adventurous that is my go to. The added potato menu is different and carb-o-licious. Very fun concept though, unless you have some serious eating skills, do both. From bbq to broccoli cheese to crazy concoctions, there is something for everyone.

This place is good. Real good. One taste of every soup I’ve tried and my first thought is: «This tastes delicious» and my second thought is: «and clearly home made.» The sandwiches are really good too. I like the Cuban. Good hearty fresh bread all the time. If you get the soup they give you a nice sized piece of that bread. The service is quick and friendly and they have these cool(the best word is «cute» but I’m a dude so I don’t use that word) little tables where you can sit. You can even get a beer if you want. Sierra Nevada, Heineken, Miller Lite and a few others. Overall I really just love this place. I was going to give 4 stars because of one small gripe. The place looks dark and abandoned from the outside so I hadn’t tried it until just recently upon the recommendation of a friend. But that’s not enough to dock them a star. It just means more food for me!!! Soup’s On is a great spot. Pretty much like every other place in this town.

I’m blown away at the rest of these reviews! Did you all get paid to write that??? I ordered a hot sandwich; the tomato, mozzarella, basil sandwich and French onion soup. Let’s start with the soup, decent flavor but my cheese wasn’t even completely melted. And the bread they put in the soup was grainy and nutty. Not a good choice for the soup. Now for the sandwich, tomatoes were all wrong. To make a «caprese like» sandwich you must use the right tomatoes not super thickly sliced, non ripe tomatoes. Also, more cheese please! Finally it came out of the oven and the tomatoes were still cold I had to have them retoast it, I thought it was a hot sandwich? No sauce, very limited flavor and the bread was nothing to ride home about. Sorry guys but I won’t be back and I won’t be recommending…(Unless of course there is a posting kickback)

I’m pretty picky when it comes to choosing where and what I eat… with that said, my boyfriend and I just tried this place and it was FABULOUS! Great price for a bowl of soup and sandwich, with a pretty great range of choices considering its all homemade. They give samples of all of their soups as well which is a plus. The service was pleasant… friendly and not too excessive. I can’t wait to go back and try breakfast!

Excellent homemade soup. Like the kind you would make yourself if you had time. And knew how to make delicious homemade soup. NOTE: they have a new sign that says«Potato Sack» but it’s still Soup’s On! I prefer vegan and vegetarian soups, and they always have lots to choose from. Really interesting combinations too. A bowl of soup equals two nice servings for me, and it comes with bread too for $ 5! Can’t say much about the service, as we always pick up soup to go.

Wow! I just started a new job this past week, and it being a rainy day I was in the mood for soup. I found Soup’s On, and they now have a fan forever! I ordered the Ham, Bacon, and Corn Chowder, and it is FANTASTIC! Only $ 5 a bowl, you also get a nice chunk of bread to go along with it. I took it to-go, but they have a small area to sit in and eat. I cannot wait to try other soups in the near future. If you love soup, then you’ll love Soup’s On!

Admittedly, I eat here a few times a week. This is hands down, some of the best food at the beach. Everything is fresh and everything but the bread is made in house… even the ketchup and pickles. Everyday they have French Onion, Chicken Noodle, NE Clam Chowder and most days Maryland Crab soup. Then they have at least 5 or 6 other soups to choose from that change from day to day. I think I have tried about 75% of their soups. I have so many favorites I cannot list them. If you haven’t been, you’re missing out.

Great soup. Really something special in a day where most places heat up prepared foods. All fresh ingredients made in store. The staff is not very friendly though. It may be that they are just too busy. They r serious about soup though. I don’t think they realize the importance of personality on the success of the restaurant.

Best sandwiches in Jacksonville hands down! The chicken salad is to die! I have yet to find a soup I LOVE, but they are all good, just not outstanding in my opinion.

A must visit. Don’t let the curb appeal keep you away. Great spot with EXCELLENT food. Too bad I fly to JAX on business and can’t take some home from their take home freezer of soups!

Their sandwiches and soups are some of the best I’ve had in Jacksonville, I’m currently obsessed with their roast beef sandwich with arugula and horseradish sauce– as well as their chicken enchilada soup! I’ve never tried something from soups on that I didn’t like, so delicious!

Absolutely in love with Soup’s On. I’m a soup snob and I simply can’t get enough of their fresh and preservative free creations. Stopped in for the second time and am astounded by the Italian Wedding Soup. I also like all the gluten free options and use of creative ingredients. Lots of international spices and flavor combos make for creative takes on traditional favorites. Plenty of mentions on here about their freezer full of soup, which is a great last min idea if you are looking for easy dinner plans for the whole family. Might as well stock up. Had a great conversation with a regular and he couldn’t stop raving. They should have him there every day. He sold me on the Italian Wedding Soup that even my four year old can’t get enough of. Also picked up the Spicy chicken butternut squash. Why choose one? The atmosphere reminds me of a casual lunch in grandmas kitchen. Perfect for a private lunch meeting. Great for all foodies!

My favorite place for soup in Jax. Not been feeling to well for some days and told myself I needed soup in my system. Decided to check my bookmarked locations and finally check out Soup’s On.(It’s been bookmarked since I checked out one of Nate’s videos«on deck») I make the drive out and completely miss the small store and had to do a crazy U-Turn during rush hour and slide into a tight parking spot. It was Fast & Furious worthy driving. Not much to the place. Small counter with a clerk dishing out the soups of the day. On the back wall is a freezer filled with frozen soups. Two people were ahead of me just scrolling through. Reminds me of the old school Blockbuster new release wall. I was hoping to find something with pumpkin. No luck but I decide on an Enchilada soup instead. I grab it out the freezer and turn to see the same people that were glued to the freezer earlier are now staring as a chalk board that I completely missed high on the wall. Now I’m starring at the wall trying to make life decisions on what exactly I’m gonna get hot to go. It would be neat if there was some bingo like chart where I could mark out soups as I try them. I decide on the Puerto Rican fish soup. I guess I was missing Chilango & Boricua flavors? Attentive server wraps everything up and I do some tight 3 point turn to leave the parking lot — while someone else tightly slides into my spot. Parking can become a hazard here. The Fish soup tasted like my childhood best friend’s aunt’s Bacalao. Nice chunky portions of fish, tomato, and peppers. News were a nice addition. Paired it with the soft yet crusty French bread provided, also a few maduros and slices of avocado. Two shots of nyquil and I was out for the night. The next day I take the Enchilada to work. It’s in the microwave for 3 minutes and smells up the whole office. Everyone is thinking I went out for take out but I’m neatly spooning up a chunky bowl of all the flavors of my favorite enchiladas. I stopped to take a pic!(Trey Songs in my head) I’m about to diving in! I was tempted to make a Vine video. Great homemade soups. Now if they could only open up a third location between West and Beaches.

I definitely made fun of Soup’s On a number of times while driving past(goofy sign, goofy name, a soup place located on a beach is inherently pretty funny) but when I finally decided to drop in for lunch, I was extremely pleasantly surprised. This is a soup place that is serious about their soup. There’s a giant cold case packed with dozens of sizes & types of take-home soups, the menu rotates fairly regularly as far as I can tell, and they offer a handful of sandwiches & salads as well. I’ve dined in twice and gotten takeout once, so far. Dining in is a little awkward because all the tables are barely large enough for two people — it’s a small location, sure, but a couple of 4-tops could fit at the expense of some waiting-in-line space. So takeout is a good option, as is calling ahead, as the sandwiches take a little while to prepare and the lunch rush seems to get pretty serious. The soups I’ve had have all been very fresh and nice, miles ahead of most every other non-fancy-restaurant soup. There are a number of vegan and vegetarian options, and I have a vegan coworker that swears by the place. I’ve found in general their soups are little short on seasoning, but a little salt & pepper will do wonders(I assume it has to be a health-food thing to undersalt and leave the seasoning up to the diner). If you’re ordering a sandwich, be aware they’re also a little short on condiments — last time I ate in the tables only had hot sauce and Old Bay, so if you wanted mustard on your turkey melt or whatever you were out of luck.(Hot sauce on the banh mi sandwich I ordered, though: wonderful.)

Had the soup and sandwich combo(African peanut and tomato mozzarella) Both were delicious! The bread is also good as well. I had an unsweetened green tea to drink, which was refreshing. I believe they also make their own soda. I will return!

This place was meant for me. They mean business when they say«soup’s on!» With a giant cooler full of frozen pints of home-concocted soups to take home, I doubt I could have begun to count the variety of options. No preservatives, just soup. Glancing at the menu, I immediately liked what I saw. Soups broken up by dietary preference: Vegan, Vegetarian, Seafood, Beef, Chicken.(They aren’t labeled precisely like that, but it’s the general idea) I’ve enjoyed all three of the vegetarian sandwiches that are offered. A sandwich and soup(cup) combo is enough for lunch plus leftovers. The combo is offered with a range of 4 sizes varying from cup to pint. I cant wait to get back to try some of their salads! Havent been able to resist the sandwiches with their hearty bread, plus two slices of sourdough(?) alongside the soup. Yum yum yum. Go get you some. Last time I went, I overheard a customer raving about the tea and one of their desserts. Wish I could have better hearing! Will have to sort the matter out myself, I suppose…

Soups On goes above and beyond answering the call for soup with their new location in Atlantic Beach. This teeny tiny spot right off Atlantic Blvd has been open about three weeks and already seems to be enjoying the same success as its well-established Riverside location. When it comes to lunch, I positively CRAVE a good soup and sandwich. I mean, really, is there anything lunchier? Warm, bready sandwiches dipped in brothy, comforting goodness is as good as it gets for me, even in the sweltering heat of early September. I stopped in today to grab a bite with a friend and, as soon as I opened the door, the aroma of simmering, savory concoctions rushed to my nose. With a constantly changing selection of hot soups like Maryland Crab, Vegan Kale and Lentil, and classic French Onion, Soups On offers up the broth for a variety of palettes and personalities. Always the fungus lover, I decided on the Hungarian Mushroom soup today. You can also feed on a selection of salads and sandwiches that serve as great soup companions but are also hearty enough to stand on their own. I chose the Roasted Eggplant with Goat Cheese to round out my pair. As I waited for my food I took in the vibe at Soups On. Little two-seater tables handpainted with bright representations of classic soups like Broccoli Cheddar and Gazpacho lined the teeny dining room while brightly colored paintings of mushrooms, tomatoes, squash and more adorned the walls. Yep, this place is pretty simple, simple and adorable. My food came out looking too good to be true! A sizable bowl of paprika-colored soup served up alongside a positively picturesque cheesy, eggplant sandwich. I dug in and was pleasantly surprised to note the rich uniqueness of the flavors. This is not your run of the mill watery soup, people! Savory, creamy, mushroomy soup coated my belly as the melty warmth of the sandwich satisfied my serious lunchtime hunger. I felt like I ate and ate and ate but still had to box up a few bites to bring home. All in all a GREAT bargain for under $ 10! If for some reason you don’t get your soup fix satisfied in house, customers are invited to peruse the cooler of take-home pints of frozen stews like the Artichoke and Marscapone Cheese Soup or the Lentil and Kielbasa Sausage. I’m definitely going to remember that next time I’m stocking the fridge!
