Specialties

We are dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. We provide effective programs to empower Atlanta’s women and girls through education and wellness. Strengthened by diversity, the YWCA draws together people from the community who strive to create opportunities for women’s growth, leadership and empowerment.

The YWCA of Greater Atlanta transforms the lives of women and girls, helping them reach their full potential by delivering innovative, affordable programs such as transitional housing for women in need, childcare, development programs for teens, and breast cancer awareness.

History

Established in 1902.

The YWCA of Greater Atlanta was founded without fanfare in 1902 when a group of women met on the campus of Spelman College and organized the Atlanta Chapter of the worldwide organization. On that day, they elected their first president, formed a group dedicated to helping «working girls, middle-class daughters, young wives and mothers, and princesses»; and gave birth to what was to become one of the oldest and largest women organizations in the city of Atlanta.
