So magical. If you are in Athens, OH and don’t try O’Betty’s, you’re missing out. Great hot dogs, unique recipes, and a fun vibe.

I was drunk. Paid a lot of money for a hot dog. Dropped it in the snow. Picked it up, consumed it. Not bad.

Great find on a 6 hour road trip. Stopped in Athens for gas and a quick bite, not realizing it’s a college town w/lots of cool, eclectic and kitschy eateries. Love the uniqueness of the décor, menu and most of all — veggie friendly! Vegetarian hot dogs and spicy chili top the list of my favorite things. Too many varieties of hot dog topping combos to name. Friendly staff made it all the more enjoyable. Treat yourself, stop in and get a dog!

Not the best place I have ever eaten and not the worst. Fries are almost always cold and the workers are sometimes not friendly. The hot dogs are good though and good quality. Wide variety of toppings and you can build what you like on them.

I don’t even like hot dogs and I would eat at O’Bettys. I highly recommend their cheesy fries. They are to die for.

I was very impressed with the hotdog itself but, they over top it and the bacon was burnt. I would definitely try them again but, would probably build my own dog instead of getting one of their signature dogs.

Ok… The place is REALLY cute… The food is awesome! But this guy on the grill is the rudest person I have run into in Ohio yet! Our friends who are from here were so excited to take us to this place and now with this guy, everyone is just upset. Costumer service, no good!

It’s ok but the hype of this place doesn’t match the food. Everything tasted fine but none of it was special. The casings on the redhots were extremely tough, biting through those things was a bit of a task. The girl asked us if we wanted ketchup when she brought us our fries and then we never saw her again. I guess for $ 4 per dog(I believe the ones I had were called The Dixie) I was expecting more. I could go to any random dairy shack type place and probably enjoy my food more.

Tried the Tempest and it was amazing. The quality of the dog itself is way up there, and all the toppings tasted fresh. Great little kitschy concept they pulled together. Love the atmosphere. My only complaint here is size. Pretty cramped space.

Let me start off by saying that I’m from Columbus, and a big fan of Dirty Frank’s. When my cousin suggested we go here, I was looking forward to seeing how they measured up. O’Betty’s 1 — Dirty Frank’s 0. This may be one of the smallest restaurant’s I’ve ever been in. They have seating for maybe 15 – 20 people. It wasn’t busy at all when we stopped in, but I imagine at prime hours, you better plan on getting it to go. The décor of this place reminds me of something out of a Tarantino movie. Lots of burlesque photos, odd lighting, beaded curtain and hot dog memorabilia. The music that was playing added to the feeling that some crazy shit was about to go down any second. All that being said, it’s kind of a cool vibe going on. On to the food. I had a Dixie and a Gypsy. I wanted to keep it fairly simple my first time to really taste the dogs. That was an excellent decision. The dogs themselves are fantastic. They’ve got a great snap, juicy and just delicious. The toppings were good as well, they were a great compliment to the the flavor of the dog. I also got a small order of fries. They were also fresh & delicious. I loved O’Betty’s and think you will too! I can’t wait to get back!

It’s been a long time since I ate at a dog stand. When you walk into the stand you immediately are by the kitchen, menu and ordering. Take a moment to look over the menu on the wall. Sausages, hot dogs, and tofu sausages are the main selection and fries, beans and slaw are the sides. The music is eclectic and the décor from the 40s and 50s. About a dozen seats are available. At your table there is salt ketchup and malt vinegar. Or you can order from the dozen or two mustards ketchup or mustards. If you love garlic the garlic fries are for you. I made the ‘mistake ’ of ordering two sandwishes… the lupe daily special and the Sophie which had onions kraut and whole grain mustard along with the small garlic fries. Too much food. It pained however not to get a taste of the signature chilli. Guess another stop is needed.

You know you’re in a college town when you enter a tiny hot dog restaurant that has 60’s big band music playing with 75 frames of some white guy with long wavy hair and a goatee who is supposed to be Jesus and one brown guy of a similar description, lining the walls. My wife ordered the Salome and I ordered the Dixie along with one order of chili cheese fries. This is why O’Betty’s gets a 4-star rating from me… for the simple fact that we could eat here. Neither of us eat beef or pork and that usually limits the things we can order at various places we want to try out. However, O’Betty’s offers every one of their dogs with a vegetarian option and even offers veggie chili so we could have the chill cheese fries. The dogs and fries were ok, two-and-a-half to three stars, however, the cheese fries portions were huge and again, that was another plus. There was the distinct taste of sage or some other spice in the dogs and chili which I didn’t too much care for, but that wasn’t a deal breaker. The service was excellent as the young woman who took our order was very nice and attentive.

Very cool little hot dog joint tucked away down one of the side streets off of Court St. in downtown Athens. I have to admit that, while I’m not much of a hot dog fan, I loved this place for its style. It’s a hole in the wall that is totally charming. It’s all done up in 1950s kitsch, with pictures of Bettie Page and other vintage pin-ups everywhere. The dogs are all named after 50s and 60s pin-ups. There’s a great, fun, sexy, tongue-in-cheek feel to the whole place. Imagine a hot dog stand run by John Waters or Russ Meyer, and you get the idea. Think«Faster, Pussycat, Kill, Kill» + hot dogs.(Amazing, right?) Definitely worth a look. If you’re not in the mood for a hot dog, try their fries – they’re great too. A good late-night(read: after bar) option.

Flat out, best hot dog joint I’ve been to. The diversity here is amazing — there is a dog for anyone here. I got a special for the day, the mighty Aphrodite, and as you can imagine it was Greek themed. The toppings were plentiful and delicious. The hot dog was made from chicken, and it was very flavorful with great snap. I also got the cole slaw and it was nice and crunchy with good flavor. Nothing fancy, but house made and fresh. Chili cheese fries were ridiculous, and no fake cheese sauce here. All real stuff. The chili was a touch spicy with good cinnamon flavor all topping fresh made fries. Whenever I am in Athens, I will make every effort to support this local hot dog spot.

Really enjoyed this place. They use a local brand of all beef hot dog that cooked up very nicely, skin had a nice snap. Had I known they had veggie dogs, I’d like to have tried them too. All of the dogs seemed to be burlesque themed. There’s two tables outside to sit at and 5 or 6 inside. We sat back by the hot dog museum. It’s pretty cool to see. It’s a bunch of hot dog related things. The fries were excellent. I had mine with two types of cheese and fresh garlic. On my trip I tried Skyline and Blue Ash. The chili here may have been my favorite out of the three. Between this and Blue Ash it was close.

O’Betty’s is Awesome. The hot dogs are top notch. You can even order your dog ‘shy’ if you’d prefer a veggie dog, and they are THEBEST veggie dogs I have ever had. I hear their all Beef dogs are killer, too. The Hot Dog Museum in the back is captivating. Yes, there is a Hot Dog Museum. The service is great. Always friendly and fast. I am especially fond of the little guy with the red«henna» on his arm. Whatta Hottie!

We found this spot after a 2.5 mile hike. We were hungry and needed something filling and delicious. OBetty’s was perfect. The hotdogs were delicious and the toppings perfect. Fries were fresh and very cheesy as the name implies. The décor is kitschy and silly. And the prices were good too! This place is crazy good. You can’t go wrong here. I’ve been to other hot dog joints, including dirty franks in Columbus. They just don’t compare. Love this place!

Love this place. I’ve been to Athens a few time to visit the in laws and finally decided to scan Unilocal for what’s hot. O’Betty’s came up, so we decided to give it a try. I couldn’t resist a hot dog with chili on it, so I had the Dixie. My husband and FIL had the Syra. The MIL had a Tiara Lee. I really enjoyed the Dixie, even though it was a bit different from the chili dogs I’ve had in Texas. Since it was the chili sauce and not the chili itself, the hot dog had the flavor of a chili dog, but I didn’t have to battle messy fingers and catching bits of meat falling. The husband really enjoyed the mushrooms and white cheese on his hot dog. I really think the high quality beef dogs make this place amazing. I could have eaten 3 plain hot dogs in one sitting. The Tiara Lee was pretty good too. The cheese was very melty, almost like cream cheese. We also ordered fries and garlic fries. I really enjoyed that they were hand cut and crispy. When I get garlic fries, I really want my mouth to stink. Unfortunately, it was more like crushed garlic bits on top of the fries. The garlic didn’t really stick, when it would have been really easy to mince the garlic and tossed the fries with the minced garlic and a bit of salt and olive oil. That would have made it even better. The atmosphere is a mix of kitschy burlesque and hot dog memorabilia. Kinda odd but it works(going to have to trust me on that). The staff is nice and delivers the hot dogs and drinks to your table.
