U&I Nail Spa Astoria, Inc

This place is the most convenient nail salon by my apartment, so I wanted it to be good. I have tried several times, with mostly mediocre service, but my last trip was the nail in the coffin.
Got a fancy pedicure package, my pedicurist didn’t know how to apply the treatments and gave the worst lackluster massage. She sort of pushed on my calves and didn’t really rub my feet at all. The paint job was ok.
Got switched to one of the two head ladies for fingernail gel paint. The two ladies at the front two tables always have an attitude. I’ve seen them mocking clients. One was yelling at the last table girl (who actually does some of the best work) while I was there.
They poured different brand products into empty bottles right in front of me. So my base coat came from an entirely different company and bottle than the color coat. No hand massage, either.
That was Saturday night. As of Wednesday morning, 3.5 days later, more than half of my gel nail polish is lifting and breaking off. I don’t know if it’s the neglect to detail or blatant mixing of products, but their services never last long. I can get 2 weeks or more from a good gel manicure. This place is a joke. Save your money and time.

I’m new in the area and decided to try out this nail salon. I saw all the negative Unilocal reviews and still decided to give it a try, especially since I really needed a mani pedi. First bad sign was that it was 100% empty on a Saturday. I start with my pedi and the girl barely knew what she was doing. A woman who seemed like the owner came to help her cut my nails. I wasn’t upset and just let it go since I really needed the service. Next I started my gel manicure. I felt it was quite rushed and it didn’t have enough time under the uv light. However I’m no expert so I didn’t complain. My pedi was terrible, but my mani looked good. I tipped them both really well regardless of how subpar the service was. For those that don’t know a gel manicure should last about 14 days. Mine usually last about 9 days. My nails started chipping on Monday!!! Only 2 days after a gel manicure! Today Wednesday, only 4 days after the service, practically all my nails were chipped!!! I called the salon and they said they would happily fix them. When I arrive the owner had the nerve to say that they most likely chipped because of my work. Let’s keep in mind she knows nothing about me or my work. Another woman is told to fix my nails. She angrily fixes them meanwhile slightly shoving my hands each time she wants the other! Now I understand the chipped nails weren’t her fault so I tipped her. When I did she took it and rolled her eyes as if it weren’t enough. Honestly I didn’t have to tip her at all, but I did so out of courtesy. This place has no professionalism and their service is terrible! Stay away if u can, the negative reviews aren’t an exaggeration! If I could give them 0 stars I would!

I live really close, so this place has the convenience factor but I just can’t get behind it. Tried it 3x. I’ve had my nails cut painfully short and terrible paint jobs. Also, my nails always chip super quick, including my pedicure.

I went in very open minded. I went in just a few minutes ago and left very disappointed. I don’t understand why are you hiring people with no experience and if you do then make sure you train them correctly. I’ve been going to the beach and god knows how many cuticles I have on my toes. This girl couldn’t even push the cuticles let alone get ride of them. Never coming here again. Was going to do mani pedi I left with a bad pedi.

I’ve been coming here since the grand opening. It’s conveniently located right near my apartment. I love coming here. I always get the best quality for a great price. I believe GeGe is the one that does my nails. She does a great job. Always has a smile on her face and I believe she loves what she does. I come here so often now that when I walk in they already know what I want! I’ve gotten pedicures here. They do some great work and the massages always feel wonderful. I’ve had a few different people do my pedicure when Ive come but they always do a great job. I’ve been to a few other places in Astoria and everywhere else is over priced and the quality is horrible. I’ve also had my eyebrows done here. The girl did a wonderful job and we even had a good laugh because I couldn’t help but flinch every time I anticipated the wax paper coming off. All and all here I always know that I’m getting a great quality and an AMAZING price. I recommend everyone to try this place out. You won’t be disappointed.

Very clean, great prices. I had a spa pedicure for $ 30. The foot massage was good, better than most places I have been in the area. They were very thorough. You can get a basic pedi for cheaper but I opted for the scrubs and extras.

This place has given me average to below average manis/​pedis. I’ve been approx 5x and have never been wow’d by their services. They lack attention to detail (leaving mask on my legs, uneven nails, shoddy paint jobs, etc.). One of the girls didn’t even ask me if I wanted my nails cut or filed; she came at me with the clippers before I could stop her… resulting in 2 shorter nails on one hand.
The worst offense, by far, is the chemical burn that they gave my boyfriend. I’ve brought him in twice now. The first time was fine, but the 2^nd time, the girl did a sloppy job applying the callus remover and left it on too long. This resulted in several chemical burns on the sensitive skin on the sides of his feet. The callus remover solution should ONLY be applied to heels and the bottoms of feet.
The manager or owner noticed my boyfriend discomfort and complaints about the burning, and they said something to the girl working on his feet. Management (but not the actual girl who messed up) tried to handle the situation and even applied salve to his feet. They were apologetic, but didn’t seem to think it was that big of a deal. Needless to say, we’re both still upset over the experience. And if you only knew how hard it was for me to drag my boyfriend there in the first place…
So, they took off the callus removal service fee, but still charged us for his pedicure. I thought that was pretty paltry considering that it’s been over 24hrs and my boyfriend still can’t wear socks/​shoes because of the blistering.
It’s genuinely disappointing, because they’re so conveniently located to my apartment… I was even excited for their grand opening. I kept hoping that they were just trying to get a toe hold on the business, but the quality of service never improved. The owners seem to be nice, but the technicians are simply not very good at their jobs.
It’s not worth it when there are so many other salons that charge the same to actually do a good job.
I’m so disappointed with this establishment, and I will no longer give them my business or recommend them to others.

Its hard to find the place like that in queens.

Just went for a mani pedi and gel off. Only 23 dollars. They gave me massages on my hands, shoulders and legs/​feet as well.
So clean so nice. Coming back here again for sure.

Wow this is the best massage ever. So happy they are around the corner. Need this once a week.

I’ve been there a couple of times now. Everybody’s very friendly and nice. Girls are fast and efficient. Everything is new and very clean. The prices are great, definitely going back! I totally recommend this salon. Perfect for a neighborhood nail salon. Keep up the good work girls!
