Deep in the heart of NYC, the Giving Tree Yoga Studio is a holistic sanctuary located in the most culturally diverse neighborhood in the world. Providing classes, workshops, teacher trainings, spa and astrological services, women’s circle, spiritual counseling, and most importantly, a like-minded social community, the studio cultivates overall wellbeing on a foundation of inclusivity with a family-like sense of belonging.
NEW TO NYC? Many residents of NYC chose to leave the communities of their childhood, leave their country, leave their families, step out of the box, & move to a city of 8 million to pursue their passions, their calling, & their dream. This uprooting can feel very lonely and it is incredibly important to have a supportive, loving, inclusive community as a chosen ‘family’ to nurture you and provide a home away from home. The Giving Tree has become that ‘family’ to so many and provides endless opportunities for personal development, community building, and joyful connections with others.
About their teacher training… Registered with the Yoga Alliance, this 200-hour certification is designed to cultivate teachers who are able to express their unique spirit, strengths, and passions through yoga. Participants complete with a toolbox full of inspiration and practical approaches to creating classes that inspire and truly make a difference for others. As a teacher, you will be trained to teach 3 versatile methods: Chakra Yoga™, AromaYIN™, and Total Training™.
History
Established in 2009.
How we raised the funds…
We share this story to honor our humble beginnings rooted in community. After the financial crash in 2008, banks weren’t loaning, we didn’t have the capital to open a studio, and had no financial support from family. We were strongly discouraged from opening a business at this devastating time. In order to secure a loan, we crowdfunded (before we knew what crowdfunding was) a 3-month loan from our community guaranteeing a 5% return on their money or a membership to the studio. We knew we could afford the 5% return if all fell through with the loan. After keeping the capital in the bank for 3 months, we secured our loan, returned the money to those 15 friends who stood by us, and succeed in opening a studio truly rooted in community. We will be forever grateful to those 15 friends who believed in our vision.
