Samo Café was an interesting experience! I was nervous to go in because no one was there except the owner and a guy behind the counter. It was also dead silent and no one was smiling. Always passing it on the street, I always thought the décor looked tacky from the outside but I was pleased to see it was actually well decorated once I went in. It’s not the amazing inside but it has a nice, comfy feel that is pretty welcoming, despite the awkward silence from the owner and the man behind the counter. When I went, it was about 9:45pm and I ordered a falafel and spinach pie. Unfortunately, they ran out of spinach pie so I only had a falafel sandwich. The falafel wasn’t made on the spot but you could tell it was made fresh earlier in the day. The sandwich was wrapped similar to gyro opposed to cutting the pita in half and stuffing the center. I actually thought it was pretty good! Not the best I’ve had, but it was decent. I think I would like to try them again earlier in the day to see how their food is when it’s fresh. Once they turned on the cd player it broke the awkward silence and it felt a little more comfortable. Eventually, we made small chit chat I enjoyed the experience. It wasn’t the best food ever but it was decent. Also, at night it has a solid crowd of people smoking hookah and playing backgammon and chess. I wasn’t blown away by my first experience at Samo Café but I will give it a try again soon.
