Overpriced food that tasted like crap, I wouldn’t mind the price if the food was good but their food is an insult to taste buds.

I like the pizza here but I find it weird that it closes randomly and then reopens. I walked there recently on a Friday evening and it was closed. It doesn’t have a grade posted in the window… I’m pretty sure it’s shut down.

They’re back? I’m glad to know! Friendly service. Great pies. Tables available for sit down or take out. Since I lived so far away, I always did pick up.

I never had their dishes but their pizza is absolutely great. Their attitude isn’t great but it is better than papa johns.

As mentioned in previous reviews, the attitude is not worth it. The pizza and heros are at best par with any local pizza joint. The unfriendly attitude of, who I’m guessing is John, really left a bad taste in my mouth. For the attitude, I give two thumbs down. And for God’s sake, take credit cards. It’s 2010!

We called and ordered a large plain pie for pick up. When we got to John’s, there was a banner outside offering a special — large plain pie and a two liter soda for $ 11.50. We went inside, asked for our pie, and were told it would be $ 13.50. I mentioned the sign outside, and the guy yelled at me that you need to mention that special when you place an order. I apologized, said we were new customers(thinking he’d want to encourage new business) and said we didn’t know and would be sure to mention the special next time. He continued to yell at me as I apologized again, and said we’d pay the full price. He suddenly told us to take a soda from the case and gave us the discount price. The pizza wasn’t even that good, and certainly not worth the hassle.

Hey, it’s just a pizza place but it’s a great neighborhood place. Great pizza. Great chicken parm. Friendly owner.

This is one of the best places to go for pizza in the area. Im so glad they are open for business again. The texture of the pizza is just right. They make everything fresh and do not freeze the dough. Every other place in the area has been a major disappointment I always leave the pizzeria happy.

John’s is back!!! They were closed for a few weeks due to renovations but they are back open and as good as ever! Plain and simple, I love John’s Pizza. Their medium pies are large enough for me and my girlfriend, their toppings are delicious and their prices are reasonable. The only problem is that they sometimes take a long time for delivery. 45 minutes sometimes. If you want it quicker, just order pick up. Your order will be ready in 15 minutes. Their sammiches are also awesome. I recommend The Astoria — chicken cutlet, onion rings, bacon, cheese and BBQ sauce on garlic bread!!! Delicious. Finally don’t forget a «Couch». It’s french fries with brown gravy topped with melted mozzarella. I never order anything from John’s without adding a «small couch» to the order. The only thing I wouldn’t recommend is the chicken wings. They are not what you think. They are breaded and come with marinara sauce. Really not good. Screw Flanders!

Meh, had much better pizza. Besides, what’s up with the attitude? Seems the place is renovating or summer holiday?! I haven’t seen his place open for a while.

Stopped in here to grab some dinner, didn’t really know what to expect but I can honestly say it turned out to be quite decent. I felt rushed to order as I stood in front of the counter staring up at the menu. Quickly decided to go with the Chicken Parm Hero, got it to go but they do have room for dining in and have 2 – 3 tvs to check out while you chow. Order took like 10 – 15 min, not too bad and was 7 bucks, excellent price considering the sub was huge! Left there and still had another 15 min walk to get home, then had to feed the cat, grab the mail, I didn’t even get to sit down and enjoy my sub until almost 45 min later AND… it was still pipping hot, incredible! I only was able to eat half before I was stuffed and managed to save the other half for lunch the next day, jackpot! In conclusion, I’ll be back John!

I love this place. The pizza is real good, the price is fair, and they have a good selection of other items on the menu. John and his sons work there and they are always willing to talk some sports or just strike up conversation with the customers. It’s a great place that makes you feel welcome. If you live in the vicinity of this place, this is the pizza for you.

This was the first and last time I’ll order from John’s Pizzeria. The place is right around the corner and still they quoted me a 45 minute delivery time, and actually an hour. The driver randomly called and said«delivery» and then hung up, and when we went downstairs he wasn’t there. We waited, eventually called, and they said«two minutes. two minutes. delivery!» When he finally came he drove past the house… and then walked past the house. We had to wave him down. Finally we got our food… and then… our pizza didn’t even have any SAUCE on it! Needless to say it was lukewarm at best, nigh intolerable from the lack of sauce. Luckily my boyfriend doctored it up with some pizza sauce and cheese I had in the fridge. Slow delivery, no sauce, cold food… PASS.

Buzzards were flying over my head as I trekked across Astoria Blvd. I had just successfully talked the Library into crediting my $ 50 in late fees on a crappy book, but the heat drained every measure of pride and glory from my body. A styrofoam Dunkin’ Donuts cup tumbled across my path in the hot wind. I thought I would never survive the walk home. Suddenly, a hand-written sign proclaiming real Italian Ices jumped in front of me, did a little dance, and promised I wasn’t hallucinating. At least not this time. I did a double take and decided such a happy little sign in such a hot town could provide a nice promising refreshment on the walk. I took the bait, hoping this was a real«real Italian Ices,» and not the hard kind in a little tub with a lid and a splintery stick. John showed me the frozen booth of soft scoop«real Italian Ices»: «We have Cherry, Blue, Canolli Cream, Vanilla Cream Chip…» «I’ll take the red one,» I said. As I watched John scoop, I could see the soft round layers of sugar water forming in the little white cup. He compressed them and added double. I imagined if anyone saw me eating this, they were going to think I had just made out* with Miss Scarlet in the Observatory. I paid the man, stepped outside and took a giant bite. The hot New York sun disappeared as I went into complete Brain Freeze. The«real Italian Ices» was so cold it froze my esophagus, lungs and spine on it’s way to my stomach. The buzzards started circling, not sure if I was a dead carcass and ready to eat or not. I carried on with my journey, making note of the free delivery from that oasis. * For the record, I went PG on this website. You’re welcome. Or not, whichever.

This place is legit Italian-American New York pizza joint. One of those Italian-American family operated place. Doesn’t look any fancy from outside, but their pizza is good. Best in the area for sure. Don’t waste your $$$ buying pizza from other place if you live around the area. We got to support this family joint instead of spending $$$ at Papa John or other big corporation pizzas.

Really good cheese pizza for this area and the place looks really nice and updated since they renovated the entire pizzeria a few months ago. It’s located on the same block as my apt and when I pass it on the way home, you can smell eggplant baking away. It’s unfortunate that Papa John’s open a few stores down. Oh and note: My roommate will buy pizza dough from John’s if she wants to make her own pizza and they are more than happy to sell some to you.

By far the best pizza in my neck of Astoria, nothing else is even close. If you live around here and haven’t ordered a Buffalo Chicken pizza, you haven’t really full enjoyed the Astoria experience. But here’s one little thing the other reviews haven’t mentioned, yes the pizza is great, but they also make a lot of different sandwiches also. And these aren’t your garden variety meatball parmesan, grilled chicken with lettuce & tomato bulls**t. Basically, if you can imagine a combination of meat, cheese, bacon and other terrible for you but great tasting ingredients, John’s has it. Here are a couple of examples: The Last Ride — Chicken cutlet with bacon, mushrooms, mozzarella and brown gravy on garlic bread The Master Piece — Grilled steak with bacon, provolone, gravy, onion rings and american cheese The Joe Bone — Grilled roast beef with american cheese, onion rings, ketchup & mayonaise on garlic bread I could keep going, but I’m drooling all over my keyboard and that’s not cool. Couple reasons why this place doesn’t get 5 stars though. Sometimes delivery can be SLOW, meaning over an hour slow. It’s worth the wait, but if you’re really hungry, you might want to go elsewhere. The last time I ordered from here, I got one of the sandwiches with grilled steak and about half the meat was pretty much all gristle and completely inedible. This probably means I“ll only get sandwiches with chicken from now on, but the food is so good it’s a minor blip to me. Last thing, sometimes they don’t seem to stock their kitchen too well and they don’t have the stuff they need to make everything. This seems to be especially true on Sundays. So if people are ordering sandwiches, it’s probably a good idea to have a backup, especially on the weekends. Basically, if you live near this place and order pizza and/or sandwiches with bacon and onion rings from anywhere else, you’re silly.

Yummy pizza… I just love a plain slice of it. My grandmother lived right around the corner from here, so whenever I visited her I’d run out to John’s to grab a slice. Or two. ;-)
